Title: Next early song The Fall should revive live?

Stephen - July 22, 2007 11:48 AM (GMT)
Following Wings, The Man Whose Head Expanded and Like To Blow being played live this week, which would you like to hear next from this list of early songs?

DJAsh - July 22, 2007 12:20 PM (GMT)
IN MY AREA !!!!!!!

Mere Pseud. - July 22, 2007 02:36 PM (GMT)
Anything off Dragnet because almost all songs from that album were already dumped for good by the early 80s.

I would love to hear Psykick Dancehall (of course complete with the "Is there anybody there? Yeah!" intro) once again.

strontium dawg - July 22, 2007 07:13 PM (GMT)
I, Strontium Dawg, have registered the first vote for New Face in Hell.

odlawyer - July 22, 2007 07:43 PM (GMT)
I'm going for New Face In Hell, too. I also think In My Area could be revived in some mutated form. Can't see The Fall realling doing any of these again, though. Either they're youthful songs or have too many words, neither of which are suitable now.

Neal Cassady - July 22, 2007 08:05 PM (GMT)
Its a bloody hard choice - Dice Man. Kinda a good sing-a-long track i always thought.

Dice Man - July 22, 2007 10:28 PM (GMT)
Really, really hard. A Figure Walks, Cary Grant's Wedding, Dice Man, Gramme Friday or Your Heart Out, if I'm only allowed to take five. Voted A Figure Walks simply 'cause it hasn't got any vote so far. Sorry Gramme Friday...

Kapitän - July 22, 2007 10:44 PM (GMT)
Not on the list I know, but I imagine it'd be great if they did Fantastic Life.

Mostly because it's got a pretty straight forward, mesmerizing groove that the current Fall group seem to be quite good at. Some nice keyboard parts for Elena to tuck into as well :)

Yes!!!! Perfect!!! Who has MES' cellphone number?

Fantastic life or flat of angles. I saw them at the Palais supported by Birthday Party and The Room in 1982 (?) and they suddenly broke into Flat of Angles. Took my head off. :rollover: And it was only three years old at the time. The song that is :ohdear: .

I personally think Backdrop would've pissed this poll, had it been an option.

Went for Futures & Pasts, purely because I think it would be amazing played live, and as LATWT was so heavily produced, would probably sound a lot rawer.

Hipper Still - July 23, 2007 05:31 PM (GMT)
My two choices aren't on the list, so I'll say Industrial Estate.

Craig - July 24, 2007 10:00 AM (GMT)
Preferably none of them, because they inevitably invite comparisons between the eras that this latter band can't live up to. God I'm a miserable sod tonight.

Saying that though, a really long, slow, drawn-out, leering Music Scene would be bloody superb :)

aerskine - July 24, 2007 10:58 AM (GMT)
my favourites on the list are probably Elastic Man and Spectre vs Rector, but think they should be left alone. In the end voted for Music Scene as it has lots of scope for MES to update lyrics.

EAgas1 - July 24, 2007 01:23 PM (GMT)
Kicker Conspiracy

just update the lyrics to

Hot dog and a coke for Trevor Brooking and his grotty spawn.

Under Big cheese Barwick the FA broods.

I'm not sure the FA actually broods any more. It merely dithers.

The Karaoke Fall did this in '98 after the retreat from NY,so you never know.

I went for Rebellious Jukebox 'cos I've always liked it very much, though it was a fiendishly difficult choice.

Daggerfall96 - July 25, 2007 11:54 AM (GMT)
NEW FACE IN HELL he yelled.

Esp the live version with that letter on the cover, if you don't know the one, GO FIND IT and/or PAY for one.

If the shops are shut right now, make an anagram out of the song title to fill in thyme (I'll give you a starting clue, cheese: FALL).

Oscar Wilde and Charles Dickens should lick the boots of that song............cold or warm PC.............

the current fall lineup best for years - 2 bass, one precise, one thabbing, brill non-toady thunder organ grasp guitar, COOL-EST keys, enthuse-counter-high school suburban violence percushiner:

DO IT Do IT ; 1999-2005 fall were shite; Sudefeld student retro CRAP even WORSE

do IT you GUYS

make an old FALL f®iend HAPPY!!!!!!!!

snoweyuk - July 25, 2007 05:52 PM (GMT)
Surprised no-one has voted for the Spectre

johnquays - July 25, 2007 05:52 PM (GMT)
I reckon if you made a list similar to this; the last 3/4 years output of the bands output nowadays you could easily pick one or two you adore & they would subsequently win the post 2000 poll.
But with the poll set out in this topic people are spoiled for choice,I reckon he (M.E.S.) could retreat backstage mid-gig for a sit down,a fag & a beer while still doing an excellent re-working of "New Face In Hell" or updated versions of "Spectre v Rector", "Music Scene" or "C n'C Mithering".God what a set-list. ^_^

Vvillager - July 27, 2007 08:09 PM (GMT)
Flat Of Angles, mainly cos I've just been listening to it and was thinking what a great track it is.

Mind you, am thinking the same thing about Put Away as I type.

twinz2z - July 28, 2007 05:49 PM (GMT)
Without mentioning Fiery Jack, Craigs song, Leave the Capitol, Middle Mass or
Steven,s song, fraid itll have to be English Scene + Totally Wired{where i first heard a guitar sound as it should}

Bernard_Albrecht - July 28, 2007 08:42 PM (GMT)
Shift-Work, Behind the Counter or Australians in Europe. Anything can happen now, eh?

(on edit, theres no vote for the above because I already voted, but thought this was a good thread to bump, pole choices or pick your own.)

Senior - October 18, 2007 05:59 PM (GMT)
I would love to hear Slates but voted for Your Heart Out as I would especially like to hear this live with Elena doing the backing vocals.

Stephen - December 1, 2007 08:06 AM (GMT)
No one voted for it, but it was No Xmas For John Quays.

So what next?

Divvey - December 1, 2007 09:09 AM (GMT)

Yes, the last gig of the 20th century (22 December 1999). Fantastic version BTW.

Maybe The Consortium will provide us with an aural impression of the 2007 rendition.

on edit: Having seen and heard HPaFP's YouTube video I can attest that the Cricklewood performance is another good one, although Ashton remains unmatched.

It's really superb. I'm glad for all the people who could be there in real (and last night as well, of course).

Exopsychicton - December 2, 2007 01:05 AM (GMT)
A newly recorded Papal Visit as the intro for all upcoming (?) shows.

Exopsychicton - December 2, 2007 01:09 AM (GMT)
What the fuck are we thinking? BACKDROP BACKDROP BACKDROP

Early enough, anyway....

Divvey - December 2, 2007 09:46 AM (GMT)
Until Monster mash is incorporated into the Fall setlist, I will always feel slightly let down.
If not now, WHEN???

Granny On Bongos - December 3, 2007 12:59 PM (GMT)
Sorry. Don't like them doing old stuff like that. I want them to go forward (unless forward means more Bodiddelyite pub rock of course).

Seems a tad Buzzcockian. -_-

BikeBloke - December 4, 2007 09:15 PM (GMT)
Spectre vs Rector.

Can you just IMAGINE the current band playing that, and Smith just ranting it out?

Heaven :D

idonotknowyournamr - January 18, 2008 06:02 PM (GMT)

No complaints here.

Ultimately though- New Face, Backdrop, A Figure Walks... Older Lover? No chance, but that would be brilliant.
