This was an argument I had the other day. I said that Mark was actually harder and John always seemed to come off worst in fights. But my friend insisted that Rotten was an evil bastard who could beat up anyone.

Seriously tho I think there should be a TOP TRUMPS of Rock Stars Mark n John should be there as well as Lou Reed, Axl Rose, Henry Rollins etc. Anyone willing to design a set? If not THAT how about a COMPLETE FALL MEMBER top trumps set that can be downloaded, printed and cut out. Id do it, all I need is a picture of every Fall member, which I dont have. And John Peel could have an honourary card.

Mark used to express admiration for John, John expressed admiration for Mark and The Fall admitting the Fall as an influence on PIL. but in the later 80s Mark started slagging him off. I dont know exactly the background behind it but Mark basically blasted John for creating a shit Album ("Album/cassettes/Compact disc") with a bunch of session musicians and then labelling it as a PIL album. I know nothing more than this. I like em both but there is a lean towards likeing Mark more for me. My mate is a mad Sex Pistols/PILhead, and doesnt really like the Fall. Hence the discussion (fuelled by alcohol.)

Not that there are many Fall members who were purely session musicians, but isn't this a tad ironic? On the other hand, after Flowers of Romance (or maybe This is What You Want) the best that could be said for PiL was they had the occasional enjoyable single ("Rise," "Seattle"), but the music was just plain '80s rock.

What's Lydon doing now? He did a solo album in '97 I think which was reportedly horrible, and then another Sex Pistols reunion.... If regularity of output — keeping busy — is any indication of fitness, then MES obviously wins hands down.
