Title: Reformation Post TLC vs. Tromatic Reflexxions

SteveHamilton - May 17, 2007 11:02 AM (GMT)
Von Sudenfed’s got some good stuff on it, like Rhinohead, Wipe That Sound and the one with the lawnmower, but for me it’s Reformation every time.

imaglasgowmanmyself - May 17, 2007 02:00 PM (GMT)
von sudenfed has just been posted to me today

so need to get back to you on this one

Mr Sheps - May 18, 2007 11:01 PM (GMT)
von sudenfed..no hesitation.....I'm getting the same buzz out of this one as I used to with new Fall releases...just want to listen to it constantly (the complete opposite of RPTLC)

Dice Man - May 19, 2007 12:08 PM (GMT)
I give one of my notorious "Like both, but..." answers.

Voted RPTLC. At the end of the day, after listening to a lot of weird and far out stuff (which I value highly), I realize I'm a 51 percent (the 1 just swings it) Rock 'n' Roller.

High Tension Line - May 19, 2007 12:18 PM (GMT)
RPTLC is a good Fall album. I vote RPTLC.

The VS has a couple of good tracks, 1 OK one and that's about it.

imaglasgowmanmyself - May 19, 2007 05:41 PM (GMT)
rhinohead would of enhanced rptlc

imaglasgowmanmyself - May 21, 2007 06:12 PM (GMT)
wee bit dissapointed in tromatic reflexxions

its good but it could have been amazing

suppose you could say same about rptlc but it still gets my vote

james fenning from prestwick - May 21, 2007 08:25 PM (GMT)
sundenfed wins by a mile!!!! rptlc is a pile of toss. in my opinion. sudenfed is where i wish the fall would go a la ununtterable.

JokerHystericalFace - May 28, 2007 10:24 PM (GMT)
Tromatic by a mile, even though half of it sounds dated already.

The most interesting, playful & creative tracks on Tromatic are way more rewarding than any of Reformation, for my money.

Rhinohead is my favourite song of the year, so far, and I can listen to it & Dearest Friends and a few others repeatedly without being disappointed, unlike RPTLC, which is the most disappointing Fall album I've ever shelled my money out for, with the possible exception of Interim.

M.E.S. sounds in way better form on Tromatic, too... And way more interesting lyrics...

Hipper Still - May 28, 2007 10:31 PM (GMT)
Reformation! Post TLC by quite some distance. Far better songwriting throughout, although I must confess I'd like to have heard some of those harsh electronic sounds on some of the songs. I yearn for another, harsher Unutterable.

Bernard_Albrecht - May 29, 2007 12:35 PM (GMT)
Just received TR in the post the other day, and am beginning to listen to it. Early impressions are that it is lyrically deeper than RPTLC and more cohesive as an album. But, there are early days...

autotech - May 29, 2007 04:42 PM (GMT)
so time has not unified us on the subject of rptlc then...i still think it's the best effort for years, although i know many disagree.

i listened to tr on the bus the other week and thought it was excellent, but for some reason subsequent listenings have been frustrating. like rhinohead.

The Fall album

:applaud:

Certainly and not just for the name on the sleeve, although I like the the Von Südenfed album as well.

DJAsh - May 29, 2007 07:44 PM (GMT)
Just bought TR and played it once.

Its very enjoyable, and I think it will be a disc which "keeps on giving".

The Fall album

Is it an important distinction? Both albums feature one original member of The Fall only.

SteveHamilton - May 30, 2007 10:59 AM (GMT)
Did you change the title of the poll, Stephen? It seems to have done the trick, cos the last time I looked, only about half a dozen people had voted.

Yes: for clarity – hope that's OK with you.

SteveHamilton - May 30, 2007 11:02 AM (GMT)
Yes indeed. Good work!

yes i think the distinction is important - on a fall album, MES leads

i haven't had a firm concept of a fall line up since the Smith/Scanlon/Hanley days, it doesn't seem to matter, to me anyway...

on tr MES is a collaborator, i think it leads to a very different kind of record

SteveHamilton - May 30, 2007 11:08 AM (GMT)
That's a good distinction.

R. Totale - May 30, 2007 11:42 AM (GMT)
Agreed. Compare Plug Myself In with The Unutterable..

Vvillager - June 2, 2007 02:04 PM (GMT)
One of the reasons that I've always preferred The Fall to a lot of electro music is because they are a band, and that gives them more worth to me. I like elctro tweedles and sploots though, so while I think that VS is okay, I'll still vote for Reformation.

While I don't think that Reformation is as good as it should have been, it is still more consistantly good than Reflexxions. There's room for both though.

Exopsychicton - June 3, 2007 04:45 PM (GMT)
RPTLC, though not by a length. TR gets on the nerves if left in too long, but is still quite good, perhaps great. However, I probably should not have voted yet, as anything with that voice on it takes time to work it's way in. TR is to a great degree what I thought it wouldn't be- flowing, relaxed, and damn funny. But the SOUND of it requires a bit of settling. RPTLC is just what it is, as any Fall record always is....

if they want to go in that direction thats fair enough with me

but need to do it better...... i thought tromatic reflexxions was gonna be amazing..

but it was merely good in my opinion

799thJim - June 5, 2007 05:07 PM (GMT)
RpTLC, TR is interesting but a bit too much electronic, what they really need is a MoM/Fall collaboration, leaning towards the sound of Levitate/Unutterable. Perhaps a compilation of the two would do for now, cba to suggest a tracklisting though

Damo_Suzuki - June 6, 2007 04:49 PM (GMT)
I think Reformation's really great - hypes me up and makes me hanker for more.

imaglasgowmanmyself - June 8, 2007 08:06 PM (GMT)
been playing von sudenfed more???

oh feck :o

stuartjewkes - June 9, 2007 12:19 AM (GMT)
I think the Von Sudenfed album trounces RPTLC. I feel no urge to listen to RPTLC and find myself constantly hankering for a load of stuff on VS.

Don't get me wrong, I think RPTLC is a reasonable record, but I think it's a little bloated and has far more filler on than VS.

A Worried Man - June 10, 2007 11:13 PM (GMT)
Tromatic Reflexxions by quite a lot.

odlawyer - June 11, 2007 05:11 AM (GMT)
The Von Sudenfed CD is light years better than RPTLC. No contest. I don't hate RPTLC, but it's unquestionably the worst Fall studio LP ever. A more accurate title would have been Interim II: The New Band Audition Session. Based on the positive reviews of the new band live, I'm sure the next Fall studio release will be better. I'm certain. Please.

Raphaella - June 11, 2007 06:32 PM (GMT)
Von Sudenfed is the best thing since The Unutterable.

Although The Real New Fall LP comes close.

If that is actually you in the photo, don't give any of these fuckers your address. And that includes me.

Tromatic Reflexxions. Because it sounds finished.

I'm still a fan of RPTLC.

yeah i think i agree with you, if rptlc was a good fall album there's no way tr would be beating it in this poll. i like tr way more than rptlc but it doesn't go as far as it could have, its a pretty poppy album that genre surfs somewhat. like many have said the songs on rptlc are good songs, they are just really badly performed and recorded on the album. lyrically though mes seems inspired on tr.

I far prefer it to The Unutterable.

Pollish Immigrant - July 21, 2007 10:14 PM (GMT)
I like all RPTLC... but I don't really like the dance elements of TR. I feel real nauseous when ppl r dancin havin a good time. I play northern soul on the car radio... but longer than 30 minutes and I HATE IT! Not that that's the same thing... modern electronica is about equal to R n B.. ie. both too smooth for its own good. u aint kiddin no fucker!.. well obviously ur.. but that's how it crumbles.

dj hollerbusch - July 22, 2007 11:05 AM (GMT)
on tromatic are only 2 or 3 good trax; the hoover-one, the chicken-one and i think the 1st-one...rest :zzzz:
an ep would have been better
highly uninspired

Finally got round to playing Tromatic ... not very interesting, is it? Sounds like stuff Peel used to play at least 10 years ago, and it wasn't all that interesting then.

Having said that, I also played RPTLC and, despite my previous positive comments, that sounded pretty ropey, as well ... :(

Not your day, is it?

^_^

RPTLC finally for me, but only if you cut out the filler: Insult Song, Scenario (for plagiarism reasons), Over over, Wright Stuff. Cut those out and you have a nifty disc a la Room to Live.

Rhinohead is a GREAT song though, and certainly the equal of anything on RPTLC.
