Description: Favourite track?

JonN - May 5, 2004 02:13 PM (GMT)
The first classic album by the Fall, recorded in 2 days...

BikeBloke - May 5, 2004 02:18 PM (GMT)
what else that spectre vs rector?

I HAVE SAVED A THOUSAND SOULS!

YOU CANT EVEN SAVE YOUR OWN!

junk-man - May 5, 2004 03:46 PM (GMT)
Spectre for me too. Not to want to get too muso but... if I were gonna try to write a spooky song, I'd probably go for some minor key thing - that's a major scale riff and they still make it creepy with those wonderous, spidery lead parts. It's the acheiving the aim without resorting to the obvious that I like.

stuart - May 5, 2004 10:46 PM (GMT)
Psykick Dancehall. Dragnet, another perfect album from start to finish.

thanasi - May 6, 2004 12:32 AM (GMT)
I was listening to this last night. Dice Man stood out for the way he yells "Do you take a chance babyyyyy!!???!!" at the end.

Ask me again next week and it will probably be a different song.

doctor chunks - May 6, 2004 12:55 AM (GMT)
dice man made me buy a novel.

if there was one called choc-stock i'd gladly do the same.

danjo - May 10, 2004 11:54 PM (GMT)
"dice man" is my fave. how could anyone forget mark shouting "do you take a chance bayyyybbbbbbeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!" One of the best early fall tracks in my opinion!

fallfandave - May 11, 2004 05:46 AM (GMT)
:applaud: more for dice man!!!...it's so good ...u probably don't appreciate it. -_-

Cos I am the dice man
And I take a chance, huh
Do you take a chance, fan?

see??!???

a taunting fans line...way back then.....n u complain about him takin the piss out of the fans like it's summat new!!

Bagrec - May 11, 2004 07:42 AM (GMT)
"Printhead"- great lyrics, I love that bit where he reads a review of The Fall..

(Anorak Question, possibly answered before,- who wrote that review quoted in "Printhead"?)

..also as a Hideous Replica it's my favourite song to play- and I get to play that guitar solo! Cor!!

Part Time Communist Worker - May 13, 2004 07:42 PM (GMT)
It coule be one of many but I went for Psychick Dancehall - after the "Is there anybody there? Yeah!" - the guitars kick in and sound as if they about to implode before only just reaching the first verse...ESP medium dichord...

Dragnet as a whole is a great album...the remastered deluxe version really does it justice...

..and has anyone else heard the Saint Etienne version of Chock-Stock?

No. But did you know that St. Etienne have just been promoted to the French First Division?

And who remembers that Man Utd-St. Etienne European game that was played in Plymouth due to United's hoardes running amok in France?

Apologies to non.football fans for this sudden change of subject.

Didn't know that Martin, thanks. I'll keep an eye out for them next year. Don't remember that Man U game but then I go to a game on a Saturday and by Sunday I could tell you the score but very little else (even without going out drinking afterwards). Unlike some of my football memory man friends who can tell you everything abbout every game they've been to..

Mr Sheps - May 20, 2004 03:59 PM (GMT)
Psykick Dancehall for me. Then Put Away and Dice Man.

Stephen - June 10, 2004 07:46 AM (GMT)
47 votes so far and none for Put Away: I can't believe it!

Your Heart Out. Not necessarily the best track, but one that connected with me personally when I first heard the albums (cf. this thread).

Indeed. 50 people so far and not a single Choc-Stocker among them. Actually, it's not really one of the album's highlights, is it?

Stephen - July 15, 2004 08:33 AM (GMT)
What's Flat Of Angles all about then?

Yep. He has nothing to interest him but tea & the Daily Mirror, so he starts obsessively measuring all the angles in the flat's construction.

Stephen - November 11, 2004 08:48 AM (GMT)
Anyone else hear a resemblence between Put Away and Das Vulture Ans Ein Nutter Wain?

Wretched Timesheeter - November 11, 2004 10:35 PM (GMT)
Psykick Dancehall immediately springs to mind. Much more self-assured than that rather affected debut album.

Oh! And Spector Vs Rector. Man, that's a punishing track. It punishes!

Also, as with Grotesque, the whole sound on this record is totally atmospheric, but not in the way you'd expect. It's really evocative of total skintness. The production is Victorian (but clear and audible, Interim fans).

The Encrusted Green - November 11, 2004 10:54 PM (GMT)
awww, it's a great, great album. i went flat of angles, but could have been your heart out or moon falls.

i could use some pure criminals to get my hands on some royalties. unresolved 25 years later

High Tension Line - November 12, 2004 12:42 AM (GMT)
I can't select a favorite track at the moment - excellent - my favourite Fall album.

Gor me it's Muzorewi's Daughter. Next month surely another one.

luisfazendeiro - November 15, 2004 06:14 PM (GMT)
Hell, I forgot Printhead. That's gotta be my favorite.

No, it's Psychik DH actually. Oh, who cares? All of them!

Actually I would gladly vote for all.

When I first heard the album this was one of the low points for me, then it just growed with each hearing. I just love the bit when the music falls appart and he starts cheering them:

"come on, kids, let's get this thing together" as if they were playing at a friend's barbecue party and lost interest for a moment.

It's a perfect record.

The Eccles Connection - November 15, 2004 06:33 PM (GMT)
I've gone for Spector mainly due to my fascination with Lovecraft, and also because its the noisiest thing on the album! :applaud:

Martin - March 28, 2005 11:29 PM (GMT)
Listening to this now, I'm at pains to imagine an album where one song, namely Spectre vs Rector, is so completely at odds with the tone of the rest of it? Or is this to do with the production values (???) on said song?

And how the hell are those sound effects done? It's very very good...and then the change from bucket to studio...

fallchase - March 29, 2005 05:52 AM (GMT)
love the song choc stock.

The Eccles Connection - March 29, 2005 05:55 AM (GMT)
Wasnt the first part of Spectre recorded in a warehouse sometwhere?

Dice Man - April 12, 2005 03:34 PM (GMT)
Hard to choose between "DICE MAN" and "YOUR HEART OUT"...Despite my virtual identity I vote for the last one...

imaglasgowmanmyself - April 14, 2005 07:32 PM (GMT)
today its muzorewis daughter

The Encrusted Green - April 14, 2005 08:37 PM (GMT)

dice man made me buy a novel.

if there was one called choc-stock i'd gladly do the same.

Iggy Pop's - and David Bowie's - 'The Idiot' made me buy a Russian novell. Then another one and several more and then movies ( You Must See 'Stalker' absolute genius) then 9 volumes of Russian animation, and most recently some language tapes.

D'obry utra, we are The Fall

I voted 'Flat Of Angles', for it's timeliness at times.

grottyspawn - April 18, 2005 09:33 AM (GMT)
I don't get the whole fascination w spectre vs rector .... yeah it's really noisy and weird but the best track on this album!!??? Really don't understand. Will have another go at listening to it sometime tho promise maybe I will be converted. This has most happened with "Backdrop" on "Fall in a Hole" live LP .... still find that totally hard out noise stuff hard - I think it wd be cool live at a concert tho.

My faves are A Figure Walks, Before the Moon Falls, Your Heart Out.

Also like Psychick Dancehall & Chocstock

Don't like Muzorewi's Daughter either v much which again seems to put me against the mainstream view here ......

V curious reading all these opinions .... will probably end up changing my own mind again & again

Hey by the way I only bought this album a couple of months ago ... I know I'm probably in the company of elders on this forum here so maybe it makes a difference if you were "there" or not

:girly:

Green - April 19, 2005 12:55 AM (GMT)
Even though my sig is from Dice Man, I just love the intensity of Spectre.

spiderapple - March 13, 2008 11:16 PM (GMT)
I had Chock Stock on my brain all day today at work and kept finding myself singing it much to my (and nobody elses) amusement. But then nobody there has heard of The Fall ... The Fall? Not heard of them. Are they new?

Much as Chock Stock amuses me greatly my current favourite track would probably be either Fist of Angles or Psykick Dance Hall... I really can't decide... although I think I probably voted PDH before.

Dragnet isnt one of my favourite Fall albums by any stretch but there are undeniably some great moments.
