fallfandave - June 21, 2003 01:30 PM (GMT)
the unutterable :)

fallfandave - June 21, 2003 01:32 PM (GMT)
currently a 100% for the unutterable :applaud: i didnt realise it was so popular

jerome - June 21, 2003 01:45 PM (GMT)
Extricate! Telephone thing, I'm Frank, And therein...

01mimi - June 21, 2003 04:21 PM (GMT)
..

fallfandave - June 21, 2003 05:02 PM (GMT)
well u can still say what u like mimi....it dont matter really.....it is just yer opinion...a person can own every album n still have a crap opinion.

01mimi - June 21, 2003 05:06 PM (GMT)
ok then ive gone 4 grotesque. perverted is a close second... it doesnt have many experimental wierd bits on it so i can play it straight thru... and the lyrics are better i think... but, its much more melancholy and i prefer the upbeat grotesque.

Pontypoolie - June 21, 2003 07:01 PM (GMT)
yr fave lp may not change so easily, but opinions on other lps does. listened to infotainment scan today - not one of my faves but sounded a lot better than i thought it would. maybe its something to do with me gettin auld - music today does not get me going like it used to, so maybe old fall lps just sound better compared to new shite

AntManBeeMiceElf - June 22, 2003 01:10 AM (GMT)
can you guess what my favorite is??? can ya?!?!?!? NOT a crap opin, btw.

Doctor Horse Strikeforce - June 22, 2003 03:07 AM (GMT)
This Nations Saving Grace - First Fall album I ever heard and I still love it. But I suppose it was kind of a shock, because up until then all I had heard was crap live recordings.

fallfandave - June 22, 2003 07:14 AM (GMT)
I dont think there has been any crap votes as yet....but surprised how well TNSG is doing!

now i have said there's been no crap voting ....i guess someone will vote for seminal live now

Wretched Timesheeter - June 22, 2003 11:40 AM (GMT)
The Unutterable, probably because I listen to it the most and it's the first Fall LP I got where I thought "Yeah!!!". I think it was the first Fall LP I bought, actually.

Light User comes a close second for similar reasons. Those albums for me sum up what The Fall should be about - keeping the songs short and immediate, lots of memorable lyrics etc.

Thing is, neither of these records are perfect. The Fall have never done a perfect LP, and that really annoys me. Like Code : Selfish has some incredible songs, but about a third of it isn't worth listening to more than once. Makes it hard to pick an all-time fave.

fallfandave - June 22, 2003 05:38 PM (GMT)
Glad someone else voted for the unutterable anyway...i voted for it even though it is one of the last albums i heard by the fall....but i voted for it cos it is very low on bullshit tracks.....the bullshit tracks r sth of a trademark...and liked a lot by some listeners....but there r probably other bands that do experimental bullshit better....so i dont rate em that much....on the unutterable though there r 12 out 0f 15 tracks that r excellent tracks....unutterable, midwatch 1953 and devolute r just filler for me.....but devolute is ok....

Conway - June 23, 2003 10:10 AM (GMT)
This seems to be turning into a 2 horse race. My vote for Hex Enduction puts it ahead a nose.... but how far to the finish line....

01mimi - June 24, 2003 01:42 PM (GMT)
i havent even heard TNSG or hex enduction hour ! dohhhhhh. :(

and 2 ppl have voted for extricate- wasnt expecting that.

wayneb - June 24, 2003 02:20 PM (GMT)
one more for this nations saving grace (yawn. sorry) from over here...

I agree with this and that is why I voted for Slates which isn't a proper album really and so is not long enough to be spoiled by a bum track. Hex is great and everything but And This Day is not a song I am likely to sit through again in the near future.

fallfandave - June 24, 2003 09:01 PM (GMT)
finish line is after about 50 votes i guess or when the votes stop ....26 votes so far about 25% turnout....better than expected

fallfandave - June 24, 2003 09:06 PM (GMT)
hex aint really one of my faves....but i dont dislike it either....but i like listening to the very early fall a lot and the beggars banquet stuff too.....all of it actually.....so it varies from time to time what i would call my fave......next month i might have picked frenz instead etc.....i usually enjoy the latest stuff best though

Come on now. What about the fantabulous 15 minute live version on Hip Priest & Kamerads? :)

Dktr Hohnholz-G - June 26, 2003 01:46 PM (GMT)
aaahhhhhhhhhh .... the next one.

Oddly enough, I think I prefer that version.

tormer - July 4, 2003 01:37 AM (GMT)
Grotesque is my fave. The NWRA inspired me to travel around Britain, and Manchester and Edinburgh. I've updated my Fall web pages.

I've made a page with my Fall albums with ratings: Album.

Take it or leave it...

Conway - July 4, 2003 10:39 AM (GMT)
Tore, I thought you were getting too old for all this stuff! :)

tormer - July 4, 2003 12:45 PM (GMT)
Conway, The Fall's recent output of records of all sorts makes me feel younger.javascript:emoticon(':)')

four foot vauxhall carlton - July 4, 2003 01:35 PM (GMT)
fave fall album - extricate
least liked - bend sinister (!) never really got into that one

warren - July 4, 2003 03:30 PM (GMT)
Can't keep the 'Liverpool 78' cd off at the moment,so at the moment it's 'Liverpool 78'.

warren - July 4, 2003 04:07 PM (GMT)
Oops,it's not on the list,I think I've played the 'proper' releases to death,so I'm listening to the ones I bought, listened, filed.(I've just dug 'In the City' out so we'll see)If I was forced to pick it would have to be 'The Unutterable',followed by 'Totales Turns'.

friendcatcher - July 10, 2003 03:36 PM (GMT)
for me its a toss up between The Unutterable and Hex Induction Hour, but it looks like Unutterable is more in need of a vote, so it gets it =) im actually really enjoying Dragnet again lately, the newest reissue sounds great.

pakrin - July 10, 2003 04:32 PM (GMT)
Pick one to suit your day's level of intensity. I start with Wonderful because like a some others I start with the one that sucked me in back about 1984. Maybe not the most demanding or clever choice but it worked for me... then I went into hibernation, heard The Unutterable when it came out, BANG, started re-tracing my steps (sideways) :ph43r:

Zedkah - July 12, 2003 11:21 PM (GMT)
I have gone right back in time at the moment. 'Various times' and 'repetition' are going round and round."Human relics,Human relics". I have a vinyl memory, kids today dont know what a porky prime cut is! Not necessarily a bad thing. Read with interst Conways reviews of the excellent Hex CD remastering (if you get the right one). feel I must track this down. On another (and this) day I'd be happy to go with the Hex pack. Never bought Curious Orange, not sure why, and never bough any of the hit the norths. Probably to distance myself from the indie girls that were into the fall at the time. Rest assured Ive grown out of this type of snobbery now.
Least favourite album is Friends Experiment. Is anyone with me on this?

fallfandave - July 13, 2003 06:42 AM (GMT)
no i wouldnt say it is the worst of the albums of that time....bend sinister i dont like much........this is not me saying i dont rate it.i rate all fall albums highly...just some i dont like to listen to as much...

at least one person voted for frenz.....so i guess a few might actually like frenz as an album....from the albums around about this time....kurious[4th], seminal[5th],bend sinister[3rd],frenz[2nd],this nation's[1st]

anyway more ppl vote for the unutterable ...4 votes is not enough........it deserves about 8 votes

Barry McDermott - July 14, 2003 03:38 PM (GMT)
Go on then, yer twistin' me arm - The Unutterable it is. Crackin' album.

I'd say me least favourite would be 'Room to Live', though I do love the title track, Hard Life in Country and Joker Hysterical Face ('Ted Roger's brains burn in Hell' - great line). Lie Dream and Fantastic Life don't count as they weren't on the original LP, but are also splendid, especially the latter.

fallfandave - July 14, 2003 03:49 PM (GMT)
yeah 5 for the unutterable!!!! :applaud: cheers barry :applaud: :applaud:

considering u dont like rtl....u sound a lot like u love it

Barry McDermott - July 14, 2003 04:23 PM (GMT)
I take yer point, but as I said, the extra CD tracks don't count. Of the original tracks, it's about 50% good, 50% crap in my book.

That's the lowest good/crap ratio of any Fall album, though yer Oranj and Frenz run it close.

fallfandave - July 14, 2003 04:59 PM (GMT)
u dont like marquis cha cha or solicitor in studio then ?

detective instinct is good too....'2 thugs knock down an old tree for an old lady's whim'

toolate - July 14, 2003 05:31 PM (GMT)
This changes. Have to go with Bend Sinister at the moment. But favorite has been Live at the..., The Wonderful... and This Nation's... This Nation's seems to be a common pick as the best Fall album and I wouldn't argue with that.

fallfandave - July 15, 2003 09:43 PM (GMT)
i am so glad the unutterable is in the lead :)

Mr Sheps - July 21, 2003 10:05 PM (GMT)
top album = This Nation's Saving Grace (no dud tracks for a start) but very difficult choice.

least top album = Wonderful and Frightening World of The Fall....by far the least played but love "Craigness".

Deux-Bach Contour - July 29, 2003 06:58 AM (GMT)
tough call! i voted for room to live. why? because i feel bad for it. it's got some great tunes. it sounds like it was recorded in a cardboard box but ,hey that's cool.
it would be easier to choose from each period or to select one worst album.

Hey this board is working

normally i attempt to even find a post it crashes and i give up

how many phases of the fall did u have in mind? early fall....middle fall...late fall...or more than this? for me, with these 3 phases u could have anything up to pbl [b4 they started to do nice n jangly tracks...which disneys dream was prob the first noticeable one.....]middle fall would go on from wfworld of to about shiftwork really cos after that they started getting noticeably electronicy with code selfish....so code selfish on... would be late fall for me

early fall winner would be hex
mid fall winner would be tnsg
late fall winner would be unutterable
