Title: OPERATION GOOGLE RETRIEVAL
Description: What I am working on
Natima Lang - September 26, 2004 08:38 PM (GMT)
Hello,
"Operation Google Retrieval" is not an attempt at spam or something I'm doing just for the heck of running up my post count.
I am currently working to recover what little of our forum's discussions is possible to recover, through Google's cache.
These posts will not be pretty, they will not have good formatting, and they will not come all the way up to the time of deletion, but they will at least get a LITTLE back, of what we once had here.
Any post marked "Operation Google Retrieval" in the subtitle is one of the retrieved posts.
I have to stop for now, but I will pick back up on it late tonight.

That is incredibly nice of you. Very much appreciated by myself and others. Perhaps there are some powers I can grant you to assist? If so, PM me. :)
On another note, I would love to help as it seems to be working! How about a quick how-to so that everyone can lend a hand?

Thanks for your offer, but there aren't any powers I can think of that I would need to do this.
There are some posts for which the fora currently don't exist, like the RPGs and other posts, which I have not added. For now, though, it'll be easiest if I just go down this list by myself.
Thanks for offering, though. :)

Ugh...I am EXTREMELY tired and need to go to bed now.
I'll get back to it sometime tomorrow...I don't know when, though.

Almost all of what is retrievable has now been retrieved, so this is about as good as it's going to get. I'm sorry I couldn't do better, but this is what Google left me to work with.
What I did NOT restore, because of not knowing where to place the threads:
--Star Trek Gaming
--MySite.com
--Games
--Sandrine's
These MIGHT stay available for a short time, but I do not know when Google will crawl this site next and wipe all of it out.
Now I'd better go eat, because I haven't eaten all day!

You're welcome...hope this will be of help, as well as in locating the missing forums. :)

Wave. Hiya gang.
It seems there are still some bugs you need to work out on this board.
For example, the new Rank System should be pinned and closed with Admin and Mod personnel access only but viewable by the public. At the moment any registered users can get in and post.
I have some experience in managing the Admin CP section since I operate my own board powered by Invision. Please PM me if you want to bring this into operation.
BTW do you have the old posts stored in a backup archive? If you do this will improve your chances in recovering them.

I don't get the point of the retrival. You're only geeting back small fractions of the origenal anyway.

That small fraction is better than nothing--it at least gave us a little bit of what we used to have.
Another use is providing jumping-off points for new members to have discussions with us.

Plus a way of reminding the rest of us of some of the conversations that were going around so we could jump in and repost some things that we'd lost giving others more to read again and join in on when they arrive :)

Wouldn't it be easier by restating all the topics and see where they might lead?
Kas - October 1, 2004 05:52 PM (GMT)
Yah, but the problem is remembering what they all were first hehe
Seth - October 1, 2004 09:01 PM (GMT)
Ok.... but how are you getting them?
Kas - October 2, 2004 12:58 AM (GMT)
Nats getting them from google cache.. there were keywords you could type in that called them up, cant remember what it was off hand though now.. possibly the board link itself

What I used was "Star Trek Chat", I think.
That cache is going to disappear eventually, though, whenever Google crawls this board again.
