I'm a bit confused by the ranks on Enterprise. I mean T'Pol is a sub-commander but isn't that quitte the same as a starfleet lieutenant-commander? Trip is commander so why does T'Pol outrank him? :huh: Does anyone know?

I'm going to take a guess here...

I'm wondering if Vulcan ranks are supposed to be the same as the Romulan ones (which would make sense given that they are related). On a Romulan ship, the "Commander" is in charge. He/she holds the same rank as a Starfleet "captain" or a Bajoran "colonel".

I would hypothesize that the Vulcan and Romulan subcommanders are in status the equivalent of a Starfleet "commander" or a Bajoran "major". This puts T'Pol in rank directly below Archer. As to why she outranks Trip--who is essentially the same rank as she is, I'm not sure. But, I wonder if it has to do with her position as science officer. A parallel to Spock?

That would seem a logical explanation

VULCAN:
Commander- Captain
Sub-Commander- Commander
..............- Lt.Commander
-LT. Junior and Senior (romulans/Vulcans only have one rank there).
-Ensign
cadet- cadet

think this is it, or maybe Im way off and Natima Lang is right, or maybe were both right...
