Title: Silver Sun - June 1st, 1999...live Dvd
Description: ...their 1st ever US Appearance....

Hello all,

I've been filming & collecting gigs for 18+yrs now and have recently been working on a huge undertaking of converting all my shows onto DVD. My site has hundreds of concerts listed at : WWW. ALIEN EYE VIDEO . COM

I came across about 35min of footage that I shot back on 6/1/99 of SILVER SUN's performance at SPACELAND, in Silverlake California... I happened to be filming another band's set during that show (one of the final performances of the amazing San Francisco band "P.E.E"), but caught the SILVER SUN set that night as well....

I also have the flyer from the show, advertising this as "SILVER SUN's first ever appearance in the USA"....??

Thought it might be of significance to some of you, as fans of the band. I've had the master tape sitting here for 10yrs now and have never copied it or traded it out at all, so this has not been circulated at all since I filmed it. It's a small club and only a handful of folks were there that night.....

Any other traders or collectors out there who'd like to do a trade for a DVD copy of this show (or any of the other bands on my list), feel free to get in touch with me....

Again - my full list of shows is on my site : ALIEN EYE VIDEO . COM

Thanks....

I'm intrigued, although unfortunately I don't tend to collect things like this because I've got too many CDs and DVDs rattling round as it is. Any chance you could bung a song off it onto YouTube?

I've emailed the guy, and he wants $18 for the dvd, and that includes p&p. Is it worth it? Will it work on my ancient dvd player, or will I be able to play it on my mac?

Haaaaaaaaaang on a minute... this started as the guy talking about DVD swaps. I've never had an issue with bootlegs, because anyone who buys bootlegs generally buys all the stuff a band puts out... unless a profit is being made. Covering costs is fine.

Would love to see the performance but this doesn't just sound like cost covering to me. I may have gotten the wrong end of the stick though, in which case I'm happy to be put straight.

Geez...before you get all up in arms here...as I mentioned, my preference is always to trade....

Unless there is a decent size trade, it's not even really worth my time to dub a single 30min DVD, pack it & ship it to UK... I just thought this particular footage would be of interest to some collectors of the band who might have some stuff to trade in exchange...show has not been circulated whatsoever.

Gentleman above was the only one who responded & was offered a trade...he instead said he would simply like to purchase the DVD and needs it shipped to ENGLAND....i'm in California, so that price was based on cost of time, materials, covering the paypal fees (so we don't have to wait for a check/money order to arrive via mail from the UK) and shipping 1st class airmail. If shipping to USA, i always cover cost of shipping...

In addition, show is only about 35min, so I offered him to pick out additional footage from other bands to add & fill out the 2hr dvd at no additional cost & make it a better deal for him, but he declined.

While I am trying to make a few $$ in these particular instances (trying to save up to purchase new dvd recording equipment), it's far from highway robbery...

Beginning to regret that i even mentioned the footage in the first place...don't need the drama.

Gaaaahhh... I seem to be putting my foot in it at every opportunity at the minute. I've spent six largely unhappy weeks away from home in Lichfield and now despite my best intentions I seem to keep missing the point of everything.

Fair enough. Someone buy the DVD (I'm broke, the extra work hours are unpaid), I didn't mean to cross anyone. Sorry.

no worries Damian...appreciate the private message you sent as well.

Perhaps one day i'll figure out how to upload videos onto YOUTUBE and then find the time to do so, so that you can all see the footage there....

I'd much rather trade, as I love getting new shows myself....

In the meantime, i've been slaving away dubbing all my old vhs --> dvd on the thousands of shows that I already have....been at it for 8months and everytime i feel like i'm almost there, there is another box full of videotapes & shows i find that I need to convert, haha... my vhs/dvd recorder has taken a beating from all the work & now i need to invest in some new equipment.

...beats where you've been for the last six weeks, so i can't complain i suppose...

thanks.

I'd love to see this gig. It was at the end of my second year at university and for a day or two I considered going over for the gig. It would have meant spending most of my savings and missing exam week, which, presumably, would have been something of a problem. I assumed I'd have to resit the year, but thinking about it now, I'm not sure they'd have let me off that easily.

Natalia (who was a regular on the SS board at the time) went to the gig - I can't remember, but I guess there was some other reason why she was going to America anyway. She came back with a big embroidered Silver Sun shirt and I was a little bit jealous when I saw her wearing it at the London gig that November!

Think I probably made the right decision, not going... certainly if I'd been chucked out of university, I'd be kicking myself now that there's a DVD available!

You home yet Damian?

For the time being yes, for good hopefully but nobody will confirm either way yet...

Well, I've bought it. So I'll let you know once I see it.

If the post office deliver it......

Hi Nick, did this arrive OK? What was it like? I was going to buy one and then got busy/distracted/something and forgot all about it.

Nick - January 16, 2010 06:10 PM (GMT)
Sorry I've taken so long to reply, only just noticed that you'd asked1

Yes it arrived, and it's ok footage from the concert. Is it worth the cash? Probably, for a diehard like me. I'll post a better review when I get time.

At the moment I'm a bit preoccupied with my new geetar, a shiny Sheraton, of which James heartily disapproves, because those ruffians from Oasis use them! B)
