Saw the bluetones at Lincoln Engine Shed last night, performing the whole of Expecting to Fly, in order, followed by some singles and b-sides from that era which never made it on to albums.
The sound was flawless (big up for the sound guy!), the delivery was warm and heartfelt (surreal, as Mark Morriss put it), and the whole gig was just one of the loveliest (yukky word, but the right one) that I've been to. Mrs Nick was poorly, so I took a friend with her ticket. The first thing he did was to buy Mrs Nick an Expecting to Fly teatowel as a thank you! I went to buy a button badge as well, and the merch man gave it to me free of charge! Nice people! That was the start of a reaaly great gig.
Mr Morriss bantered well with the crowd of 350 or so, and this being the first gig of the mini-tour, he gave one hell of a show!
Highlights? The obvious singles, but finishing with Are You Blue or Are You Blind was a belter!
Peerless! If you can catch this, treat yourself, you won't be disappointed!
I would have liked to have gone to one of these but was never a hardcore fan of The Bluetones. The first time I saw them (2001 I think) was a flawless gig, one of the best I've ever attended, and I hardly knew any of the songs at that time.
Hugely jealous. I wish I could have gone to one of those.
Mark Morriss is as nice in "real life" as he is onstage too.
I went recently, I couldn't go in December as it clashed with a mini metal fest funny enough just 2 doors down on the same night they played the Astoria.
It was brilliant, I loved it
