Title: The Best Gigs Ever...

Alex H - June 29, 2008 11:49 AM (GMT)
A few weeks ago I made a list of the best gigs I've ever been to. It may be slightly odd that 8 out of the 17 bands on the list probably wouldn't make my top 40 bands if I made a list, nevermind top 20. What that shows is it pays to go to random gigs. :D

Link: Alex's greatest gigs

The closest to getting on that list this year would be British Sea Power at the Natural History Museum.

What are the best gigs you've ever been to? In Philonski's case, if you can remember. ;)

2nd of October 1993.

The Wildhearts at the old JB's in Dudley.

My first time seeing my favourite band. No other gig comes close.

Except, perhaps, Jellyfish earlier that year.

Oh, and They Might Be Giants.

Might have to add Silver Sun at the Barfly, or Silver Sun at the Rescue Rooms Nottingham

Or Pink Floyd doing Dark Side of the Moon when I was 16 at De Montford Hall Leicester

Or Genesis at my village Youth Club, when I was 15 (they cost £40!!!)

(This list might go on...)

Blimey. Erm... no particular order... Elbow at Bristol Colston Hall, Crowded House at Cardiff Arena, one of about three Wildhearts performances, Muse at Wembley, AC/DC at Milton Keynes (even though I have no desire to own one of their albums)...

Probably the Crowded House gig if I had to choose.

I'd probably have to say one of the Silver Sun efforts... the last one at the Louisiana, perhaps. If forced to exclude Silver Sun, eh, I dunno. Mono were fantastic, as were Explosions In The Sky. Also, A Silver Mount Zion. I like my post-rock.

Heheh...Nick, you couldn't keep it down to one. Neither could anyone else by the looks of it.

The Wildhearts are a popular one.

I like my post-rock too, but am not a massive fan of Explosions in the Sky; I got bored after about 40 minutes of them live. Yndi Halda, God is An Astronaut and The Evpatoria Report would be my favourite bands from that genre. There are a few legally available free Evpatoria Report tracks around (including one from their forthcoming album), let me know if you want the links. There's a great free label called Lost Children as well if you know of it?

Delayed response, I is good at them. Yeah, if you chuck the links my way it'd be marvellous, cheers!
