Title: Weezer
Description: They have a new album out
Alex H - June 19, 2008 09:29 PM (GMT)
I completely forgot about it, until an advert for it appeared in my browser. If that was one of these 'secret' targeted adverts then it worked because I bought it (though I would have eventually anyway).
Pork & Beans, the single, sounds ocake, but the other two songs I listened to didn't sound like classic Weezer to me. The limited edition has something like 16 songs though, so should be well worth my £9. :)

I've been meaning to post about this.
The first half is brilliant. In the second half, the other three all get a go at singing their songs, and the conclusion I came to is that Weezer probably shouldn't be a democracy.
After the first three tracks, I was convinced it was going to be my album of the year. It's still pretty good, though.

Hmmm, I'm liking this album, on a three to four star rating, and agreeing with Damian's comments.
I'm still waiting for Alex to return the first three Weezer albums that he *ahem* acquired from me when he went to uni!
I'll be waiting a long time!

I'm now loving Pork and Beans, musically and lyrically. It's classic Weezer.
As is the video:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=muP9eH2p2PIMy album was shipped on Friday. :D

I had no idea this was coming out. iTunes here I come...

The Red Album is pretty flippin' awesome although I totally agree with Damian - Brian, Pat and Scott should never have been allowed near it.
I kinda like Pat's guitar playing on 'Thought I Knew' but the seven Rivers songs are the greatest new Weezer tunes in a long long time.

Errrm, would that be "only?".......... <_<

I didn't get into The Red Album, but now there's another new Weezer album out already. I'm on track three and it sounds more like the Weezer I love so far.

I think it's great. A couple of tracks have really divided fans... most people seem to dislike Can't Stop Partying (I think it's great) and Love Is The Answer (and... erm... I may have to agree with them on that one).
Nonetheless - 10 good tracks out of 11 (14 out of 15 if you buy the special edition). Result!

Aye, what I've heard of the new one is pretty good. Certainly enough to make me buy it. About time they got back on form.
I think it's fair to say that, as my mum would say, they're like the girl with the curl - when they're good, they're almost unstoppable; when they're bad, they're bloody terrible.

Raditude is pretty damn' good compared to the Red Album.
If you like Weezer, go buy!

Looks like I need to start composing my Christmas list. My family always used to ask me what I wanted for Christmas and I'd suggest some obscure thing that only came out on limited edition 10" vinyl in Australia, which would send them into agonies. So now I keep a little list of things you can get from HMV...

Make sure your Christmas list includes the special edition... the four extra tracks on that are good too.

My family gave me the new Weezer album for Christmas and it's every bit as good as you lot said it was! It's much poppier than their early albums, but still interesting. And there's that track that sounds like 'Jody'. :)

Astonishingly, yet another Weezer album follows in September:
http://www.nme.com/news/weezer/52086With the amount of stuff Rivers writes all the time, it was about time they started putting them out a bit quicker...
Jayem - July 18, 2010 05:13 PM (GMT)
What is it with bands I like throwing out albums faster than I can get around to buying them? First it was E and co, now Weezer... yeah, still haven't got Raditude, largely because I've been solidly skint for the past year or so, but partly at least because it's the worst album title I've ever heard.
Jayem - August 11, 2010 01:10 PM (GMT)
So... the new album is called Hurley, and the cover looks like this:

Apparently he's Hurley, a character from Lost. Which I've never seen, so it's somewhat wasted on me.
The first single is 'Memories', which sounds like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGg_mVBqXVoSo, in conclusion: title and artwork idiotic, first single not bad. Sounds about right for Weezer these days.
Damian - September 13, 2010 10:40 PM (GMT)
Another great album, then, apart from the incredibly ropey lyrics to "Where's My Sex?"
Alex H - September 15, 2010 06:13 PM (GMT)
I had a listen today. I'd say a return to form after two disappointing albums.
Has anyone seen their live MGMT/Lady Gaga medley? It's pretty good.

I haven't seen the medley, will check YouTube.
This is a really, really good album, the more I listen to it. The best they've done in years.
Damian - October 11, 2010 10:36 PM (GMT)
They're properly taking the mickey now...
http://www.nme.com/news/weezer/53365I'm not complaining. Bring them on.
Alex H - October 22, 2010 07:09 PM (GMT)
Why haven't they toured the UK for ages?

Good question. It's a long time since they toured the UK and that was at a time when (by their own subsequent admission) the quality of their gigs hit something of a low... I saw them in Birmingham and they just kind of put their heads down and banged it out. By all accounts, their set at Reading Festival this year was one of the best shows of the whole weekend and Rivers has come out of his shell... so yeah, they need to hurry up and come back.

Death To False Metal would be the best thing they'd released this year, that's if they hadn't released a Pinkerton deluxe edition...

Both arrived today. Hooray!
About to listen to Death To False Metal. If it's better than Hurley it'll be something very special indeed...

OK, it's not quite as good for me as Hurley was meant to be heard as a complete work, but it's really good.
Alex H - November 18, 2010 09:32 PM (GMT)
I had a listen to Hurley yesterday for the first time in a while, and all of a sudden thought it pretty good. So now, better than Death to False Metal! I'm beginning to think it's their best since the green album, which is my favourite by Weezer.
Oh, and Nick's FOW mention just reminded me that Trainwrecks sounds like Sick Day.
