Title: Muse
Description: Best live band in the world?

Nick - November 18, 2006 04:38 PM (GMT)
Based on last night's show at Nottingham Arena, I'd have to say Muse are the best thing I've ever seen live as a spectacle.

And I've seen Pink Floyd perform Dark Side of the Moon.

And Led Zeppelin live!

And Emerson, Lake and Palmer. (but we won't mention that!)

The show was utterly stunning, as was the musicianship. Matt Bellamy uses his guitar like I've seen Hendrix do (on tape only, I'm afraid).

I'm still reeling. Woooo, and indeed hoo!

I categorically agree. I have never seen a better live band. Ever.

Caught them in Cardiff on this tour, but I saw them first in a pub-sized venue in Bristol just after Showbiz came out and they were just as showy then. The bloke who does the sound at that venue (Fleece) said it was the best show he had seen in 15 years of doing it. And the normally sniffy local paper dished out five stars.

I've just discovered that for that one night only that you attended Nick, they played Black Holes and Revelations in full, in order, then a six song 'oldies' encore.

They've never done that before or since, from what I gather. I would have LOVED to have seen that. Makes me wonder if they were filming it, given the incongruous nature of the show...

Oh! I just assumed that this was the set they'd planned to do. I mentioned this to Mrs. R but she a) didn't know the running order, B) didn't particularly care about the running order, and c) was more interested in the lady's tat's who was sat next to her. (they did make compulsive viewing, I have to say.)

Certainly the visuals/graphics were out of this world, and they did exit stage left after about 50 minutes, but everyone just thought nothing of it.

It's still the best show I've ever seen.

It seems to have split Muse fans down the middle. A lot of them were expecting the usual set - fairly heavy on the new album with a fair amount of the old stuff. Whilst they did get lots of old stuff, a lot of them were miffed about the omission of Butterflies and Hurricanes, and Bliss. I would have been too (they were played in Cardiff), but I'd still have loved to have seen this show, especially if I was going to two dates on the tour...

Okay, I understand their point. All I know is that the show we saw was the show they planned, and I wouldn't have changed it for the world!

Black Holes & Revelations Tour

From the support slot to Skunk Anansie in 1999 when seeing them 1st to 2006, I must confess that only a few bands can do what Muse did & to me the pretty good performance in 2004 at Earls Crt was buried in about 10 mins at Wembley on the 1st night.

I was no way prepared for electricity in the pits & standing section initially I thought it maybe me taking a bow at this gig as I’m not the biggest fan of the new LP but its better LIVE

Very surprised that nothing was played from Showbiz but SMBH was the only song that didn’t work live as its prudential is mainly drum N Bass Matt’s vocals were overshadowed by it.

Muse was the gig if the year no doubt! In all fairness after experinceing many LIVE moments there is no doubt to me that Assassin is the best song LIVE you could ever here, it is pure mayhem!! I was far gone!

During the finale on Knights Of Cyndonia
the pit even to me was larger than usual & Radio 1 said themselves it was the biggest pit they had witnessed, it was like a scene from Braveheart really, we were all holding back & then suddenly it was Global Thermal Bio Toxic & Chemical Warfare!

Its funny how some youngesters approcahed me & my mate asking us, how do you do it? Where do you get the energy etc? As they said they couldn't do it, we tried getting involved but didn't last. My mate replied & said its Kebabs

I said after that the kids ain't seen nothing yet, but saw a good taste of what I'm can do

First time I saw them live, they were absolutely immense... but the second time I think I must've been too far back to see or hear anything because I got really bored and ended up wandering off.
