Title: Grey Wolf and Aoshi Training Together

flyingarcanine - September 3, 2005 05:05 PM (GMT)
Grey walked into the room, Aoshi awaiting her.
"Yeah, yeah, I know. I shouldn't force myself to train when I've been Gatotsu'd, struck by an Ame Kakeru Ryu No Hirameki, and nearly crossed the border between life and death within the last week. I need to train, though."
"Uh huh. Yeah, right, Grey. You're one of the strongest swordsmen around, and yet you can't take a day off. Even I do, once in a while."
"When?"
"For a few days after I got struck by the Ame Kakeru Ryu No Hirameki myself."
"You mean the days that you COULDN'T train because you could hardly stand, and even then you meditated like fracking crazy."
"Bad example, but still. You know more moves than the entire Oniwabanshu back in Bakumatsu did."
"Moves which I need to keep sharp."
"Yeah. Uh huh. Right, Grey."
"Let's just fi-" Grey managed before Aoshi nearly got her with the kodachi length training stick in his left hand. Grey quickly jumped back, then flying forward with the bokuto, trying Kenshin's Ryu Kansen. Aoshi blocked, but Grey used the block as a way to balance herself as she immediately spun, sending her foot at Aoshi's gut. He blocked with his arm, but she rammed her fist into his face.
"What the hell, Grey! Now you're trying to learn Kenpo, too?!"
"Yeah, though, it's only because I've been watching you so... closely."
"I'm not sure whether to be honored, jumping for joy, creeped out, really scared, or all of them."
"All." Grey quickly said before Aoshi ran at her again, trying to take the offensive. He rammed one of the sticks into Grey's bokuto, which she met with both hands, parrying and trying to ram the bokuto into Aoshi's head, but he ducked and slammed his other training stick into Grey's side.
"You're a lot worse when you're just training..."
"Negative. I'm a lot worse when I'm using non-lethal weapons, because I like testing things out instead of just run of the mill fighting. Now... I would rather like to test something out..."
And Grey did something that really annoyed Aoshi, breaking the bokuto.
"Oh, what the hell, Grey! That was custom made!"
"Sorry. Pay you back." she said, flipping it reverse in her hand.
"Wait... a... NO! YOU LITTLE!" Aoshi cried, running at Grey, not to hit her, but to choke her for mimicking his Kaiten Kenbu, but she was suddenly behind him.
"Aww, shit. That is just not fair."

"Come on, Grey! That really isn't funny! Stop laughing!"
"It is funny! I'm going to kick your ass with your own technique!" Grey yelled, still laughing at Aoshi's annoyance.
"You are not! I know that attack better than anyone else. And, just so you know, I could even attack you right now."
"Do it, then!"

"I didn't mean it, you ass! I thought you'd wait!" Grey said, holding the ice pack to her head.
"Serves you right, now get up. We've got more training to do."
"Jerk." Grey said, getting ready to test something else. She suddenly was gone from his sight, the only thing to be seen, the footsteps being pounded into the ground.
"Oh, come on! Is this Aoshi is the equivalent of a pinata day?! This is so not- Ack!" Aoshi cried, barely spinning out of the way as Grey lunged for him, but before he could attack, she was already gone. "Grey, I swear, after we're done training, I'm going to kick your ass."
"What, can you not right now?" Grey said as she appeared behind Aoshi.
"SHI'NE!" Aoshi cried, bonking her on the head with his practice stick.
"OWW! That's where you got me before when you took me seriously! I'm gonna KILL YOU!"
"O_O"

"AHHHH!" Aoshi cried, soaring down from above and trying to strike Grey in the throat, but she ducked, trying to use zero gatotsu. However, Aoshi rammed his fist into Grey's face, the ZG less effective with bokuto. Grey fell back, skidding to a stop.
"No fair, you're supposed to pretend fall if I strike with a finishing move."
"So?" Aoshi smirked, running at Grey. She put her hand over the bokuto as if her hand was a sheath. Aoshi watched as she drew the bokuto, and he blocked with all his strength. She kept going, Aoshi spinning the kodachi and sending them straight at her, trying to stab before it was-
And thus he slipped, nearly falling back before she rammed the bokuto into him, him flying a few feet before landing.

"God damn that technique. And, remind me of the padding next time."
"..."
"What?"
"Wuss."

"I am not a wuss!"
"Yes you are!"
"Am not!"
"Are too!"
"Am-"
"Shut up and fight if you're not."
" -_- You're being mean today." Aoshi said, running at Grey, blocking when she tried to ram the bokuto into his training kodachi. He quickly sent the other stick towards her gut, but she ducked back, the stick making a threatening swish near her. She quickly rammed the bokudo downward while he was still trying to get her, and in effect, he got struck hard on the head, falling down.
She didn't stop there, though, picking him up by the collar and punching him in the gut, though holding back as they always did. She let him fall forward, ramming the side of her hand into his neck, him hitting the ground hard.
" ^_^ You would've been dead by now."
"Shut up." Aoshi said, glaring at her. <_< You're not all that in a bag of chips yourself."
"JUSTICE!" Grey cried, hitting him over the head with the bokuto.
"OWW! What the hell!"
"You earned that one! Not all that and a bag of chips... I'm all that, a big bag of chips, and a large sprite, you ass!"

"You little!" Aoshi said at her unrelenting arrogance. He ran at her, but she sent the bokuto swinging at him. He jumped over her as she did this, striking her on the back. She stumbled forward a step, but spun, nearly getting him with Ryu Kansen. He jumped back, sending ki at her. She barely dodged.
"Oh, now you go for long range!" Grey said, annoyed. He sent more ki blasts at her, as she ran to dodge. She disappeared, reappearing behind him, but he spun and blocked when she sent a large beam at him. He sent some more at her, but she dodged this, running towards him. He ran towards her, waiting for her to strike with bokuto-
He fell down hard, clutching his gut. She'd used flames which had burned him badly even though the initial strike had missed. He slowly turned over to get up, Grey watching him struggle.
"Y-You said... no elements in this match..." Aoshi said, taken completely off guard.
"You said no ki usage, now get up." Grey said, looking down at him.
"... Whatever." Aoshi said. He wanted to get back at her, and he wanted to badly. A child that was years younger than him was kicking his ass. He'd had to stand it from Battosai, but a child?!
"Grey..."
"Yeah?" She asked, watching him.
She flew back into the wall, a blizzard technique having rammed into her. She fell, crumpling against the wall, coughing out blood. "Y-Yaro..." She whispered, standing. Now it was really on, as they drew their real weapons and stared each other down, the northern wind blowing past.

Grey got into gatotsu position, Aoshi ready for her, kodachi in a defensive position.
"... Iku ze."
She flew at him, sending the katana at him with more power than usual, even for the gatotsu, but he ducked, plunging a kodachi at her gut. She dodged out of the way, kicking him hard. He fell back, but quickly flipped himself over with his hands, landing on his feet. However, Grey was already there, using a Ryu Kansen Tsumuji, Aoshi jumping over Grey while she was still stuck with the technique, but she slashed upwards at him. While in midair, he blocked, landing behind Grey, making a slash at her with his kodachi. She quickly spun, getting slashed on the side in midspin, but stabbing at Aoshi with the spin, getting him right below his right shoulder. He cried out in pain, pulling back, but she was already there, tearing the katana upwards out of him, running towards him.
"Grey, stop! I give!" He cried, backing up and hitting the wall. Kokuei didn't stop, however, ramming the katana into his gut harshly, Aoshi unable to even cry out, merely gasping in pain, holding onto Kokuei tightly as she tore the blade out from within him, letting him drop to the floor.
"Grey... Grey, you're killing me... killing me..."
"Of course I am, Shinomori-san. After all, a sword fight is always a fight for one's life." She whispered.
"Shi'ne."
She remained motionless, looking at the kodachi that was now jutted through her heart and coming out of her back. She shook in pain, slowly dropping the katana, looking down at him. He pulled the blade from her, letting her fall into his arms. "Ao... shi..." Grey whispered, resurfacing after Kokuei's vain attempt to kill Aoshi, the one person that Grey's dark side hated most. "Gomen... nasai..." She whispered, her eyes closing. Aoshi slowly kissed her on the head before his world went black, his soul leaving to be with her forevermore.

Grey's eyes opened slowly. She was in the infirmary.
Tied down to the bed.
Most likely for the safety of those around her.
"Saito?" She said, knowing he'd be near. And, as she knew, he quickly walked up.
"Hai?" He asked.
"... Is... Is he...?"
"He's alive, barely."
"Can I see-"
"No. It has been deemed that, for his safety, you are not allowed anywhere near him until he's completely healed."
"... Oh." She whispered, looking back up at the ceiling. She knew she deserved worse. She knew that Saito should've killed her there and then for what she'd nearly let Kokuei do.
So she kept quiet and bore her punishment.
-------------------------
"Hurry up, Himura-san." Aoshi said a few weeks later, still not acting normal around her. Still avoiding her eyes.
Still ignoring her touch.
"I know, I know." Grey said, pulling the bag over her back. They were heading to Tokyo to visit with Kenshin and the others. Misao was also going, and had planned to go with them, but she decided to go on ahead instead of waiting. Now they'd have to run because of Grey's slowness. Wonderful.

Aoshi and Grey could sense Misao near, but something was wrong.
And then they saw her in the road. "Misao!" Grey cried, running to her best friend, and the only one she could really talk to about her feelings for Aoshi, Misao also having had feelings for him before moving on. Aoshi walked forward slowly, looking at Misao, who was out cold.
His eyes went wide. "GREY!" He cried, running at her and shoving her down, out of the way of bullets which flew at them. Grey grabbed Misao, running down the path, Aoshi close behind. A group of men walked from the darkness.
Men who still hated the old loyalists. Could this day get any better?
The men ran at them, but Aoshi and Grey quickly drew steel, taking out a few immediately. Aoshi ran at another, not noticing the sniper from a building on the other side of the street. Grey ran at him, pulling him out of the way, the man Aoshi had ran at taking the bullet and falling to the ground. The rest of them surrounded them, Aoshi and Grey back to back, staring out at the crowd.
"... On my mark..."
"Ichi..."
"Ni..."
"SAN!" They both cried, running out. A few ganged up on Aoshi, trying to get through Kodachi Nitou Ryu to strike him.
Grey only realized that they did when she heard him cry out from behind her. She spun, to see him on one knee, clutching a harsh stab wound with one hand, still trying to defend with the other. They kicked him down quickly, Grey only able to fend off those that were attacking her as they played with Aoshi, her eyes going wide as they stopped, one raising a katana to take his life-
The man was dead before he hit the ground, the katana in midair and covered with his own blood which had flown everywhere. It was like clockwork. Ichi(1). Ni(2). San(3). Shi(4). Go(5). Roku(6). Jiyu(10). Nijiyu(20).
Hyaku. They all fell under her satsujin ken as it started to rain of blood.
Aoshi looked upon the woman he held so dear as she turned to face him.
Kokuei.

Satsujin Ken: "the sword that kills," it is one of two swordstyles which all fall under, the other being katsujin ken, "the sword that gives life."

"Get up!" Kokuei cried, running over to him. He quickly got up, but holding out a kodachi to Kokuei when she got too close.
"... Are you going to kill me, Shinomori-san?"
"No, just back the hell off and we'll be fine."
"Gladly." Kokuei whispered, moving Aoshi's kodachi aside with her hand as if it were nothing, moving past him and picking Misao up. She started running down the street, katana drawn, her and Aoshi keeping a watchful eye for more attackers.
"LOOKOUT!" Kokuei cried, pulling Aoshi towards her, a scythe barely missing him.
"I saw it, Kokuei!" He cried, getting ready for the attack.
"Sorry, I just thought you hadn't..."
He put aside what she'd just said, making a note to ask her about it later, as the attacker walked out. Aoshi took a step forward, but Kokuei put her arm out, stopping him and putting Misao in his arms. "I'll handle this. Get to Battosai and tell him what's happening." She said, Aoshi looking at her for a moment before nodding, taking off.
She looked at him before turning her gaze back to the opponent, taking off towards the attacker, who sent the scythe at her again. She spun out of the way, slicing the chain, but another chain flew at her, Kokuei, raising her left hand to guard her neck and keep her from suffocating. The attacker struggled to pull her towards him, but she jumped towards him, trying to slice him with the katana. He ducked, but she kicked him in the face, cutting the chain with her katana, pulling it off. He stood, but Kokuei ran at him, using the handguard to block as she cut him down.

Kokuei heard Aoshi's outcry a few blocks away and ran, trying to reach him in time.
He and Misao were on the ground, blood flowing from Aoshi's body as he moaned, struggling to get up. "Shinomori..." Kokuei said in an annoyed tone, watching him as he tried to stand. Her eyes suddenly went wide. "Shinomori, watch out!" She cried, a beam flying at him.
Sure, she could've saved him, or at least tried. Not again. She wasn't going to risk her neck for anyone or anything else anymore, other than her life philosopy, Aku Soku Zan. She was through with that. Absolutely through.

"Save... Saito..."
And he fell silent.

She wouldn't give herself such a vunerability again. And with that, her last vunerability-the man named Shinomori Aoshi-was go-
Excuse me. Was standing next to her, panting and looking at the person which had attacked him, drawing his kodachi.
"Hey, you're not in that good of shape, I'll-" Kokuei started.
"No, you won't. I'm... I'm not as weak as you think I am."
"Yes, you are, now-"
"I said NO!" Aoshi cried, running at the man.
"Aoshi! Aoshi, wait!" Kokuei cried, watching him as he flew at the man. "Why... He must be... Aoshi, you're going to get yourself killed!" Kokuei cried. "Why do I care?!" She yelled inside her head, grabbing Misao and flying down the road.
He was fighting for her. It struck her so hard, she nearly fell.
For the first time since she'd lost Okita, someone was fighting for her. Not just Grey, but for her.
For the first time, in someone's eyes, she existed.
Had purpose.
Had life.
And for the second time, she'd realized it far too late, as she spun, watching him fall to the ground.
"AOSHI!!" she cried, running at the attacker in a rage. Everything she'd learned through all her years was gone, except for her instincts.
Including the one to kill.
The attacker rammed the katana downward at her, but she blocked it, spinning around and trying to use Ryu Kansen, but he barely ducked, swinging for her feet, but she raised her foot, slamming it down on his katana and breaking it. He jumped back, sending the rest at her, but she easily knocked it away, using that same movement to get into position as he ran at her, drawing the wakizachi. He tried to strike her, but with a swift motion, she rammed her katana so it would streak along the side of his katana, cutting straight through the handguard slicing through the side of his hand which was gripping it, him crying out in pain. He fell to the ground, gripping his hand.
"... Shi'ne." Kokuei whispered, cutting his head clean off. She spun, running to Aoshi and kneeling down next to him. "Shinomori-san..." She whispered, slowly turning him over. His own left kodachi was through his abdomen. He tried to keep from showing the pain, but his eyes gave everything away. "... Hold still..." Kokuei whispered, gripping it around the blunt side.
"W-Wait, what're you- AHH!" Aoshi cried out as Kokuei wrenched the kodachi from him. He struggled to keep himself from yelling out again or starting to cry as Kokuei used some gauze pads and medical tape to cover the wound.
"... I never thought you were weak, but I thought you hated me."
And hell, it was, in a way, the truth. But, as Aoshi looked into her eyes, he reached to touch her face, finally seeing there something he'd always hoped to see in Kokuei.
Light.

"Where are they?" Kaoru asked Kenshin. "They should've gotten here by now..."
"Perhaps they're running late..." Kenshin said, though there was worry in his eyes. "Perhaps seisha will go along the path for a bit."
"I'll come with you."
"No, Kaoru-dono. If something has happened to Shinomori-san and the others, seisha should go alone, de gozaru na."
"Alright... just hurry..."

"Come on, it's only a bit further!" Kokuei cried, Aoshi struggling to keep going on his leg. He'd been shot, but he fought back the pain, knowing that they were so close to Kenshin, to safety-
"Shinomori-san!" Kenshin cried, running down the road. He could smell the blood a mile away. Something had happened to Aoshi, Grey and Misao.
Aoshi's eyes went wide. Saito was in the shadowed alley which Kenshin had just passed, not even noticing him.
"BATTOSAI!" Aoshi cried, Kenshin spinning around, but he was struck by the powerful gatotsu, ramming into the wall across the street.
"What the hell are you doing, Saito?!" Kokuei cried, running over.
"Stay back!" Saito cried when they ran up. "He's involved in the attacks!"
"Wh-What?"
"You were attacked too, right?"
Her eyes went wide as she turned to look back at Kenshin.
His eyes weren't amythest, but black, as he lunged at her, Kokuei barely jumping out of the way in time. Then, he disappeared, reappearing above her. She flew at him with Sanshiki, but he dodged to the right, slamming the katana down on her shoulder. She quickly rammed her katana up to knock his katana away, landing on the ground, him landing a few feet away. She put the katana in her right hand again, gripping the wound with her left.
"... Fake."
"Miss me?" Fake whispered with Kenshin's voice. Fake had been a rival of hers, an assassin that was equal, perhaps even beyond Battosai, and Shishio's original sensei. He had a style very similar to Kokuei's. With one showing, he could memorize almost any technique, just like her. This trait had slightly been passed onto Shishio; almost any technique that had been shown to him wouldn't work.
And he and Kokuei had clashed swords many times in the still slightly chaotic years after the bakumatsu's end.

((This training now involves Fake as well. Also, please add the PL bonus.))

"It's been awhile, Fake. I hope your skills haven't rusted." Grey said.
"My skills, rust? I think your head's turned to dust, Himura-san! Come on, you know me better than that!"
"... Of course I do, Fake. Now are you going to fight me... or are you going to fight me?"
"... As always, so violent. Fine, then, I guess... I will begin." Fake whispered, getting into battojutsu position, his trademark starting position.
"... You'd better not have rusted, asshole." Grey whispered, going into gatotsu position. From afar, Aoshi watched the fight, hoping he'd be able to determine something-anything-about Fake's fighting style. There had to be something, he couldn't be that much like Grey. It was creepy.
"... Iku ze." Grey whispered, flying forward. He drew the katana, but she jumped into the air above him, flying down with Sanshiki gatotsu. He spun out of the way, blocking as she spun the katana around, and as her katana was flying past him, he lunged at her, trying to hit her with the hilt of the katana, but she brought her left arm back, blocking the hilt and spinning, ramming him in the face with a powerful hook. He fell back a few feet.
"Good! Really good! This is going to be one HELL of a fight! Jesus christ, this is going to rock!" Fake cried, absolutely enraptured. As much as he wanted her dead, he couldn't help but admire her skills, skills which matched his own. God, he wanted to be the one to kill her, to bring her down and be the one to finally claim the title 'strongest.' Dear god, he wanted it, he wanted it more than anything in his life. He could feel it, taste it, hell, want it in his loins as he stared down the one thing between him and his destiny; the most powerful swordsman to have ever lived. Power to kill anything and everything with a few swings of a piece of metal.
And he would make that title his. The title that he deserved, the title he was born to have.
"Come on! The night is young, but it won't remain forever! Come on, come on!" He cried, shaking with excitement. This was it, his time to prove himself. He'd no longer be her shadow.
And they flew at each other, Grey soaring at him. She lunged, but he parried. He tried to overpower her, but she ducked, him stumbling forward. He'd been relying too heavily on her power forcing him back. She quickly rammed the hilt of her katana into his ribs, him nearly gasping in pain, but he couldn't.
He couldn't let it slip away.
He spun his katana, but she blocked it by bringing the hilt up, her katana pointing towards the ground. She pulled it up, making his katana go in the air as she spun her katana, ramming it into the same place her hilt had struck. However, he fell back, keeping the wound only a graze-though a rather deep one.
Ooooooh, he wanted to get her. She was like him. She thought herself higher than she was, better than she ever could become. She was a wild horse, still unbroken.
Her time would come.

"You're going to fall to me. You're going to fall to me, and there's nothing you can do about it."
"I beg to differ."
"Begging will get you nowhere, Himura-san." Fake said, grinning as he quickly ran at Grey, ramming the katana downward. However, she parried and tried to send her katana at him. He quickly spun his katana, ramming the hilt into her shoulder, trying to spin out of he way of her blade and barely doing so. He then lunged, Grey parrying it with only her left hand and running past him, him cutting her on the other shoulder as she passed, blood flying into the air.
"Grey!" Aoshi cried, watching as she spun, getting into the shinken stance. Fake rammed his katana into hers, but she pushed back until he spun to the side, spinning and sending his katana at her back. She spun her katana to block, but he completely overpowered her, her having only used her right hand. She flew forward when his katana rammed into her. Fake quickly ran towards her to deliver the final blow. "Damn!" Aoshi said, reaching for a kodachi, but Fake was already halfway to Grey. There wasn't a chance that he'd reach her in time...
"SORYUSEN!!!" Kenshin cried, appearing between the two and ramming hard into the off guard Fake. Fake flew back, skidding to a stop and then raising his katana.
"What the hell are you doing, Kenshin?!"
"Stopping you from making a big mistake."
"Which is?"
"Killing Grey Wolf."
"I don't think so. Now, move, Battosai."
"I won't do that, Fake."
"THEN DIE WITH HER!" Fake cried, taking off at Kenshin and ramming the katana down at him, but Kenshin parried, spinning and sending his sakabato at Fake's shoulder. Fake spun out of the way, backing off and turning to look at-
Gone. Aoshi was running down the road at top speed, carrying Grey and Misao to Kamiya Kasshin dojo.
"YARO!" Fake cried, taking off after him, but Kenshin reappeared in front of him.
"As I said... I am stopping you from making a big mistake."
"What 'big mistake'?! She's been in my way, always been in my way! Always getting the glory! Always seen as the best! I can't live like that! She betrayed YOU! Her own father for her 'savior', the bastard Mibu wolf, Saito Hajime! The worthless blood traitor must die for what she's done! The worthless blood traitor-"

"... Just... just shut up..." Fake whispered, looking past him and at Grey. "She... how the hell is she my sister?! I don't even have parents!"
"... You..."
"What, you're saying YOU'RE my dad? That's a boldfaced lie and you know it."
"Is it really?"
"... No... but how, Kenshin?! Why didn't I go with you too if that's the case?"
"... They probably still had use for you."
"... They? Use? Me?"
"Hai. You probably were the one they intended to have as the heir to Ikane's throne, not Grey, but something probably happened... otherwise, you probably would be."
"Sh... SHUT UP!!!" Fake cried in anger and flying at Kenshin, but Kenshin blocked, spinning and sending the sakabato at Fake, Fake kicking him hard in the face before the sakabato could make contact. However, Kenshin quickly got up, jumping out of the way of Fake's relentless assault.
"Fake, listen to me! She is your sister! Just take a god damned look at her!" Kenshin cried to Fake's deaf ears. Fake ran at him again, holding the katana parallel to the ground. Kenshin tried to jump out of the way, but Fake was ready for this. He quickly spun the katana, but Kenshin parried, trying to overpower Fake. However, even with more skill, Fake was simply too much stronger.
"SHI'NE!!!" Fake cried, spinning the katana at Kenshin harshely, Kenshin dodging just enough to keep the deep cut from being fatal. He fell to the ground, grabbing the wound and crying out in pain. However, Fake turned a deaf ear yet again as he plunged the katana at Kenshin to kill him.
There was a sound of metal clashing with metal as Aoshi appeared, stopping Fake from killing Kenshin and sending him flying back with a powerful shove.
"You!" Fake cried, plunging the katana at Aoshi, but Aoshi easily moved to the side, parrying Fake's katana with the left kodachi and lunging at him with the right. Fake spun to Aoshi's left, but Aoshi spun the kodachi, cutting sharply into Fake's shoulder.
"Yes, me. Now's when you learn to be kinder to your betters."

((EDIT: PL Added))

flyingarcanine - October 9, 2005 07:38 PM (GMT)
"... Betters?!" Fake cried out, running at Aoshi in a rage. Now, Aoshi had done it. He'd dared to call himself better than Fake. It infuriated him! The asshole, first, takes Grey for his own, and then calls himself better because he can swing two short swords around!?
"Of course I'm better than you, you fool. If you can't even control your emotions and kill Grey like you said you would, then you're worthless. After all, you're supposed to hate her... aren't you? She's the one who's overshadowed you your entire life, I know I'd be pissed."
"SHUT UP! YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT ME AND HER!!!"
"Oh, it's 'me and her' now? Not 'me and that girl who I hate with a passion?' It seems someone can't even keep their story straight."
"SHUT UP!!!"
It was the greatest pain he'd ever felt in his entire life. His katana was through Aoshi, little more than two inches to the left of Aoshi's heart. And at that moment, he knew.
Grey could never love him as much as she loved the man that was standing right in front of him with a katana straight through him.
God knew he wanted to be angry. He wanted to tear into the fucking asshole, to rip him to shreds, to make him feel what he'd been feeling his entire life without even knowing it.
Grey's rejection.
However, he knew he could neither make Aoshi feel such pain, nor have the sadism within him to be angry at Aoshi at that point. He wanted him to live. He was Grey's happiness, and without him, she wasn't Grey.
She was dead.
She died with him as he hit the ground.
