Title: THE END OF THE FORUM?
Description: I think we all kind of know already.

TWIGLET - June 26, 2007 11:21 PM (GMT)
If you haven't noticed already, the forum is pretty much dead.

We need ideas for the forum to attract others to it.

Since I'm the general discussion moderator, I have finally returned after I don't know how long. Chaos isn't exactly in the position right now to even take care of the forum much. I don't really want to take her position but at least I'm doing something. Anyways, no ones here and the forum hasn't been touched since may. So anyways, this place is slowly dieing, I can get a bunch of gamers and roleplayers but who's going to watch them and show them about the forum? I just handle General stuff well, I'm not exactly an anime pro. So just start posting around, try to get peeps to come back, I'll see what I can do.

KatanokiChaos - June 30, 2007 12:10 AM (GMT)
I'm trying to get the board into a ton of webrings; I'm also looking into paid advertising options.

Pl0x, invite people! Forums need people to survive.

Anachronist - June 30, 2007 11:28 PM (GMT)
Perhaps you should first delete all the bogus accounts on the forum. Every time I'm on, there's a guest who's on, registers for ten minutes, and then it says the newest member is "cwefrvop" or something. And maybe getting a gimmick of some kind....

KatanokiChaos - June 30, 2007 11:45 PM (GMT)
I do delete them. I deleted them yesterday. I give accounts 30 days to post before deleting them.

Also, I'm trying to make articles for the site. Lots of em.

Devking - July 1, 2007 01:29 AM (GMT)
So... me not being here leads to "THE END OF THE FORUM?" xD
I don't really know how to promote the site any more than Katanoki has gone so far, but I guess we could all somehow bring an effort by telling others. In fact, we should be like "the random-ass people in those stores who bring their computers to use just so that others see what they're doing".

And lastly, making more articles doesn't really help to get more visitors. How the GUI looks and the environment does. On that note, nice new GUI.

TWIGLET - July 22, 2007 11:37 PM (GMT)
Eh. There is a major lack of activity.
Personally, since I moved from Florida, I'm not bored anymore, so I have lots of things to do besides the computer, which means yes, less computer time, yay and not yay.

Devking - July 23, 2007 06:26 PM (GMT)
That would be a yay.... I think.

As for activity, I'm perfectly up to date 'cause I come on about twice a day. Just because I'm on the computer that much. So, really, we just need new members and that's all. Everyone signs on enough times (once a week? That's okay... I guess) in perspective to how much people on big forums sign on.

Again, we just need more people.

Anachronist - July 23, 2007 06:41 PM (GMT)
It's too bad we can't overtly advertise. Like banner on popular websites....T-shirts....TV commercials....TV shows.....I'm sorry, what were we talking about?

Devking - July 23, 2007 06:52 PM (GMT)
TV shows?! What?! Wait... what are we talking about?--- oh yes, getting people to the site.

We could use some of our money to advertise all over the web, seeing that this is the only free-role playing forum on the net. It would work better if there was a storyline-style role play which had a bigger role in the forum, but ours is quite dead. ((P.S. We really should get a new storyline role play which has a story we all agree to or something.)) As for T-shirts, we could, but no one would really care. And finally, my last stupid suggestion is to role play in public areas, while typing really loudly. Yes...

No, not really. Just tell all your friends of this site, and hopefully something will start.

KatanokiChaos - July 24, 2007 12:25 AM (GMT)
I could make new global RP... I should think about that, actually.

Devking - July 24, 2007 02:54 AM (GMT)
When you say a global RP, what is that exactly? xD

Well, at least tell what it's gonna be like or something.

Anachronist - July 25, 2007 12:35 AM (GMT)
I think she means an RP that is the main focus of the site; an RP that encorporates every active member on the site. And to make one we all agree on might be a bit difficult.

I'm just sayin'.

Devking - July 25, 2007 12:41 AM (GMT)
Uh. Huh.

I would think that's a good idea. But that's just me.
For example, most of the previous role playing sites that were "successful" used a global RP. I think that would be good, because then newcomers could join more easily; they would be able to get into the system of role playing much faster. In fact, I think I was talking about a global RP from the start, but I just didn't know what to call it. >.> Anyways, it doesn't have to be one that we all agree on completely--just one that we know works and will attract other people to join.

Personally, I'd say go for it. I already have a few ideas that come to mind.

KatanokiChaos - July 25, 2007 03:11 AM (GMT)
I'm not sure it should be the focus of the site, though. I mean, RPHQ's purpose is to be the open access RP site. If I did make a global RP, it would have to be just in one or two forums, tops.

Devking - July 25, 2007 03:15 AM (GMT)
Hmmm... Fine, I guess. But shouldn't we still be thinking of how to make the site more active with more members and such? (Don't stray too far off topic, now.)

KatanokiChaos - July 27, 2007 09:38 PM (GMT)
Topics are meant to be strayed from!

desu desu de-

Kidding.

You have a point, though. Uh... I'm probably going to look into advertising.

Anachronist - July 30, 2007 03:16 AM (GMT)
You mean banners and link trades and whatnot?

KatanokiChaos - August 2, 2007 03:55 AM (GMT)
That too, but I want paid advertising... x_x

Devking - August 2, 2007 04:46 AM (GMT)
As in Google Ads, and such things as that? When you say advertising, I think it's a good idea for affiliates and banner exchanges, along with having ads around the internet and such not. But past that, I don't think it would be a good idea to advertise in the outside world, unless with a small circle of friends. Really, I think it's excessive to have to spend money on advertisement.

Chronos - August 3, 2007 06:00 PM (GMT)
ok, Well, advertisment really isnt that bad of an idea.

Banner links can work, as long as you put them on the right websites, such as wikipedia (im sure ive allready said this, but WikiFTW)

Allso, i wonder, how much time does it take to make a website, similar to this?

Devking - August 3, 2007 07:59 PM (GMT)
Well, technically this isn't a site, it's a forum, which you can easily get for free by going to the InvisionFree site. As for the layout, you can see that it has already been pre-made by Heretic of the IF Skin Zone, which is a forum which distributes individual board layouts. Finally, there's the set of forums, threads, and topics which administrators have to set up themselves. In total, if you don't count the posts, making a forum of this caliber would actually be quite quick, if you know what you're doing.

Although, if you're talking about the actual site, it takes longer to do that, unless you've already chosen a specific pre-made template to lay out all of your information. That would take even faster time, depending on the amount of pages you have. Yet, if you're making your own template, that will definitely take a much longer time. Same goes with if you try to make your own forum.

And, true, banner links do work when you put them in the right websites. Although, I don't think WikiPedia is one of them...

Anachronist - August 4, 2007 03:21 AM (GMT)
No, I think he means making a wiki-page for the forums...

Devking - August 4, 2007 06:43 AM (GMT)
Ah... Wait... Wait a minute. Making a WikiPedia page for this forum? I doubt that that will actually attract any people to join, far from even being a good idea for advertisement. No one would be able to find the page, either, unless they actually tried looking it up. So, really, it was more likely that he meant banner ad, right?

((By the way, this may be a good time as ever to say this, but I'll be gone for a week for San Diego, so see you guys later! Just for the record, I had little time before I left to post and say my goodbyes, so that's how I fit the newest posts in. Hope you guys don't leave my characters behind in the role plays!))

KatanokiChaos - August 4, 2007 02:18 PM (GMT)
A wikipage would be taken down soon. You can't advertise on wiki. I mean, I probably could get a short list of a few RP sites on the role play (text based) article... But I'm not even sure if that's allowed, and that would be about it.

Chronos - August 4, 2007 07:24 PM (GMT)
Sorry, ^_^, i meant making a website, like this forum. or acutally then, making a forum.

Thanks a lot Dev, helped out a lot.

And, i meant advertising on Wiki, but i didnt know that counldnt advertise on it...

~Chronos..

P.S., have a safe trip Dev

V2Blast - August 16, 2007 08:05 AM (GMT)
Katanoki, go post on LC more often, get people to know you, and then get them all to join this place. When you get some free time, that is. Try to at least post there every so often instead of not posting at all. Trust me, several are semi-experienced RPers and would probably listen to you if you asked them to join after they got to know you.

Similarly, find people you talk to in real life/online and get them to join. Put it in your sig like Katanoki did on XC. Actual online advertisement works too, but I doubt you'll find somewhere you can do it for free.

Anachronist - October 18, 2007 11:22 PM (GMT)
Hokay, so here's what's happened...

Everyone died.

Or so it seems. I know school, work, life, etc., get in the way, but seriously! We used to update RP's like six times in 45 minutes! I'm trying to inform the people at the Creative Writing Club at my school about the site so we can have some new members who will, most likely, update. But we need to start over again. I'll be on more often, since Marching Band is over next week, and I hope you guys will be as well.

-Adam

Devking - October 19, 2007 01:35 AM (GMT)
Shouldn't this go in some other thread? Hm.... I guess not, as seeing that this does talk about "the end of the forum".

And oh--I'm not dead just yet. I actually come on to visit the forums every day to see what has happened, although the activity seems pretty blank. And, this is the time of the year when school kicks in, so we don't really have the time to update RPs every few minutes (that's happened before?). It's pretty awesome that you're getting people recruited into the forums, and I'll be hoping for their showing soon. :P As for you coming on more often, I can't wait. Maybe we could start up another thread, eh?

((Uhm. So far as starting over is, I don't think we need to, as long as everything is kept organized. Which, of course, I will try to do my best at. And on that note...))

TWIGLET - December 26, 2007 02:42 AM (GMT)
Aight. I'm back. Not too big on RP, i know this, I'm more of the man at the front desk who likes to do random stuff. Any-who, really, you can't get off topic here, I could care less plus we do need advertising, how? I dont know. Maybe a wikipedia would help a lot, but many RP fans have found sites already. But wiki would help as well as other site advertising. Anyways, Happy Christmas and Merry fricking new year.

V2Blast - April 16, 2008 01:31 AM (GMT)
You know, this could turn out to be a much more awesome forum if we were all a bit more active and recruited at least a few more. I mean, of the people we get, the ones who are interested will only stick around if there's something to stick around for.

Devking - May 6, 2008 03:03 AM (GMT)
*shrugs* Amen to that. I've almost stopped coming on as frequently due to the lack of activity and purpose. Of course we shouldn't just invite any random person off of the streets, but this forum seriously needs a combined effort to get everything running again. This means I need to get off of my lazy arse and do something too.

Wow... This is a pretty late reply.

Katanoki - May 22, 2008 06:47 PM (GMT)
I'm Aliiiiiiiiive

And yes, we should put forward an effort to recruit more members. Maybe I could rent a booth at this mini-con that'll be going on in my area... It's only 15$, and I could reach out to a lot of anime fans and gamers.

Or then again, I could just roam on role playing chats and boards and offer links when appropriate.

Fallen~angel~plushie - May 22, 2008 09:02 PM (GMT)
Hi, I'm new, I hope the forum doesn't die. I'll try to advertise other on other sites.

Devking - May 23, 2008 01:19 AM (GMT)
Holy crapples! You're alive!! :o

And... nice to have you here, -doesn't know what to call you-, and don't worry, this forum won't die any time soon.

Fallen~angel~plushie - May 23, 2008 09:28 PM (GMT)
Yup yup, just call me Sakura.

AquaTeen0000 - May 27, 2008 01:19 AM (GMT)
im here to and im doing a tad bit of advertising myself.....i play a lot of dnd and ill see if i can get some of my friends from there to join this.....we will see.....

V2Blast - June 9, 2008 04:13 AM (GMT)
Hello Fallen, Aqua. :)

It's not so much the advertising we need as a concerted effort to get some activity going. Then we can recruit people, because without activity, nobody will stay and make it more active anyway.

AquaTeen0000 - June 9, 2008 07:30 AM (GMT)
then start some more role plays i got the role play life going right now go join it fallen (i recruited her)

V2Blast - July 15, 2008 08:30 PM (GMT)
The problem is, the few new members we get stop coming because the people who are already members aren't all that active here...

So then. Everyone who's actually alive, post here! :P
