Title: Demitasse
Description: -Kiki

An ornate wall clock behind the counter marks the time as an hour to closing. That's plenty of time to stop in, get a hot drink to drown the chill before venturing back outside. Violet is not, as a rule, a coffee drinker, but she feels she needs a coffee now, and so she's seated at the first empty table that she came to, gazing drowsily into the cup.
She hasn't shed her coat or scarf, despite the temperature of the room -- she couldn't be bothered. It's been too long a day to fuss over coats or scarves (or hair, for that matter).
...Sigh.

Jonas is not looking forward to the walk home in the cold - fauns are summer creatures, you know - and so he has been delaying it as long as possible, making his chai last as long as he possibly can and reading left behind newspapers idly.

He glances up at the sound of a new arrival and waves to Violet with a smile.

She isn't anything like Patrizia, as far as he can tell. That's nice.

The girl waves back, a faintly weary smile lighting her face. Yay, it's Jonas, her--..mother's ex-boyfriend?
No, too many syllables. She'll settle on just plain 'friend'.

Violet wanders over to join him, holding her coffee cup in both hands.
"Hi." She tilts her head, causing damp strands of hair to fall over her eyes. "Fancy seeing you here."

SammieK - January 2, 2007 03:38 AM (GMT)
"I could say the same, but that'd be redundant."

He gestures to the chair opposite.

"Have a seat. What have you been up to, Violet?"

Danie - January 2, 2007 03:52 AM (GMT)
Violet slides into the seat across from him, with her hand still wrapped arond the coffee cup. It isn't that her hands are cold and she's using the cup to warm them - she just doesn't think to let go.

"The usual." She smirks, then quickly adds. "Reading, mostly."
She wasn't sure he knew what the usual was with her.
"And visiting people." In the hospital. "How about you?"

SammieK - January 2, 2007 03:09 PM (GMT)
"I have been a saint." And enjoyed it not at all.

"No clubs, not even on New Year's Eve."

He was sadly lacking in someone to kiss at the stroke of midnight, seeing as how he spent the evening at home.

"What sort of books?"

Danie - January 2, 2007 03:15 PM (GMT)
"Um. Right now, historic fiction." Violet smirks. "Last week, it was historic nonfiction."
She swirls her coffee around in the cup, looking drowsily into it for a few moments before looking up at Jonas.
"I didn't go out either," she says, trying to sympathize.
(She might not have gone out, but she did have someone to kiss.)

SammieK - January 2, 2007 04:25 PM (GMT)
He chuckles.

"You don't really seem like the type."

She's rather bookish, and quiet, and... not much like her mother at all. It's nice to see that Patrizia's daughter turned out a decent human being. (He isn't bitter at all. Really. Although he does have a phobia of committment.)

"I'll live. Heh. Maybe I should take up reading."

Danie - January 2, 2007 04:36 PM (GMT)
Violet smiles.
"Well...that would be because I'm not, really."
She takes a tiny, careful sip of her coffee, and imagines she can feel the caffeine buzzing its way through her system. How long does this stuff take to work, anyway?
"You should. There are books about everything. You're bound to find something you like, eventually."

SammieK - January 2, 2007 04:49 PM (GMT)
"Mm. I wouldn't know what to look for, to be honest. I was never very into reading."

Not even when he was in school - thus why he's a personal trainer and massage therapist instead of something that involves a lot of reading. He's a physical sort of guy, rather than mental.

"What would you recommend?"

Danie - January 2, 2007 04:52 PM (GMT)
"Um..." She frowns. "I don't know. What do you like? I mean as in hobbies or t.v. shows, that kind of thing."

Violet may actually be able to recommend him somethng. She has favorite genres, but she'll read anything.

SammieK - January 2, 2007 06:12 PM (GMT)
"Well... I play guitar. Folksy stuff, not country or rock or anything like that."

Dancing music - the kind of thing that makes you imagine a group of fleet-footed creatures spinning around a fire in a woodland glade. He doesn't compose, but he tends to elaborate.

"I like the old James Bond movies. Um... I dunno. Old bachelor stuff."

Danie - January 2, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
Violet bites on her lower lip and casts her gaze to the side as she thinks.

"Well..." she says slowly, "I know that the James Bond movies were based off a series of books. You could try those. Um...for music, you could...I don't read a lot of books about music. I don't think I can actually name any."

SammieK - January 5, 2007 09:25 PM (GMT)
"Well, I'll look into the books."

He smiles and waves a hand in the air, rather vaguely.

"That'll probably hold me for at least a couple months." Pause. "Per book."

He is not a fast reader. He may, in fact, be a trifle dyslexic.
