Title: Is the angel a species or class?
Goth - February 13, 2006 06:25 AM (GMT)
I know, I’ve seen a question about angel’s here before, which already answered the question of ‘can there be angel’s.’ Now I have a more technical question. As an angel of the ungodly, unheavenly, un-christian type, would the angel fall under class or species. Give that the angel is not merely a human with wings, the sort containing abilities of a higher power, such as healing, but they are not heavenly.
My thoughts on this were that an angel being heavenly or unheavenly would fall under class and status but the fact that the basic creature itself is not human, it’s species would be angel.
Anyone?
Take your time, I'm in no hurry for this character at all.

Given that I've been inactive for about two years, I may be smacked for answering this question, but I'll give it a shot anyway...
I believe that what you're describing would be better suited as a species rather than a class, since there is a physical element that differs from regular humans as well as a potential magical element.
At the same time, I think that if a winged human with healing powers were to be classed as a species, "angel" wouldn't be an appropriate term for them (whether they're Christian or not), at least not from their point of view (then again, I'm biased).

As I had talked to Jackamy when creating Jibril, she made me sure to understand they are not, in any way, of the christian sort. No christian god, no christian angels. They may have healing abilities, light powers, and whatnot. I myself prefer to keep powers until they are at least 1,000 years old. I know what you are talking about, though.
What I believe, with my angels personally [Alice and Jibril], they are angels, thus not humans. But humanoids. Animal-like in many ways. That is most likely one of the traits that seperates them from basically what I call 'humans with bird wings'. They are not the same being. Hell if I know how the humans get their wings though. Physical defect? Ancient ancestor?
But the angels, the humanoid animal-like creatures that I have, would surely fit under species soley because they - are - not - human. One of the things people forget. They are creatures, not humans, they may act human like, but I believe they still have instincts, sharp teeth, and a near carnivorous diet. Probably spelt that wrong, but whatever.
Even if the angel does not know, for gods know what reason, what they are or whatever or that there are gods, not God, they would still be an 'angel'. Interesting idea. An unnish angel. Probably would think they were of the Bible sort.
Cany you tell I'm a bit passionate about this subject? Created the whole species of angel on some paper a bit back, my style of them. Non-Christian, animal-like, etc, etc.
One more thing to remember, just as a fact. Jackamy had told me they were neither good nor evil, it depends on how they were brought up. Just like any other person. Probably one of their human-like traits. Alice's past led him to being a not so nice person, Jibril's past well...you know it Jess, and look at him now! Pathetic.
Anyways, it is 6:36 am in the morning, and I have school. I think I'll find my papers too. Hope I made sense, and I hope at least part of this was right. Ciao.

That was what I'd thought, they aren't human. So species?
Jackamy? I seriously don't want to screw this one up.

My guess - if their parents are human but they're angelic, it's a class. If their parents are angels, then it's a species.
Um.
*sheepish siddling away*

With all three of you (greatly appriciated) input and oppinions, I'm going to go ahead and put species as a place saver and get started on a real profile. I'm still, however, going to wait for the oh mighty admin to come with a final ruling.
Thank you lovlies.

Sorry for not hopping on this right away, luv.
In general, angel is a word that would be applied to the sort of folks you're describing, rather than necessarily self-named. But yes, if they are physically different from humans in that they're not just magical mutation but a completely different species born of that species/created in some other way... yes, call it a species. Not necessarily "this is the species where angel rumours came from and they are the angel species and there isn't anothr angel species" but "this is a species people sometimes call angels and they are like this."
If that made any sense.

Ok, that confirmed it for me.
Species it is.
Thank you so much for all of your input, thanks Jackamy for confirming all of our guesses.
