Title: Stalkers.
Description: -Danie

It took Jess all of one hour to get over her decision that Teague was 'creepy' and to remember that he was 'hot.' (Which he is, actually. In a lazy hobo musician kind of way, which isn't surprising.) And as Mari had never shared that opinion in the first place, and both girls tended to share a taste in guys--Dave being another example--it was bound to happen that they would begin to stalk him.

In a completely benign manner, of course.

Both of them worked at the florist shop with their Mum after school, but not both on the same day, unless it was a season for lots of flower sales. (Summer was a big time, because of weddings. Spring was too. Winter, not so much.)

Anyway. On days that they were not in the shop, they'd take turns watching the store where Teague worked--occasionally venturing inside, but mostly avoiding him--and figuring out his hours and such.

By this point, they had his schedule memorized, and for once, they were together, waiting for him to get off work. Jess was in tight black pants and a black coat that she was nearly lost inside, and Mari was in jeans and a pale cream coloured coat. Both wore gloves. (Jess's were black, and she'd cut off the fingers. For no real reason, even. Except perhaps that Teague's were like that...) Also, Mari was wearing a bandanna, much like the ones that Teague often sports.

Ah, adolescent crushes.

I believe they have agreed to share him.

A few minutes after his shift had ended, the tolling of the small bell above the door announced Teague's exit from the shop. He paused a moment to adjust his gloves - he'd slipped on an indigo pair under the usual raggedy black half-gloves. The added protection for his fingers was his only concession to the cold weather. Otherwise, he was dressed for a much warmer day than this, in a simple blue t-shirt and jeans.

Little eddies whistled through his hair and past his ears as he started off in the direction of the place he called home. A small smile touched his lips.
"Well, well, well..." Teague mumbled to himself.
He's being watched. How cute.

SammieK - December 2, 2005 11:29 PM (GMT)
Whisper, whisper.

"There he is."

Dreamy sigh.

They are not good at following people without appearing to follow them, but they make a good attempt at it. They wander behind him, looking in store windows every so often, but they glance at him too much for it to be coinicidence.

Danie - December 2, 2005 11:42 PM (GMT)
Teague, for his part, doesn't look back or give any sign that he's noticed them. Not for a couple of blocks, anyway.

He'd been going reasonably straight up to this point,...then all of a sudden, he steps into the busy street and weaves his way between cars to cross to the other side. Remarkably, there's not a single screech of brakes or yelling, abd he makes it across safely.

He's not trying to lose them - he's trying to see just how far they'll follow.

SammieK - December 2, 2005 11:45 PM (GMT)
Mari hangs back, looking a little nervous, and Jess scowls.

Fine then. They'll just follow him from this side of the street and cross when there's a light or a break in traffic or something.

He's not getting away!

Danie - December 3, 2005 12:03 AM (GMT)
He takes the next turn that he can, and he's getting father away, but not out of sight. The street he's on is one that's lined with bars and clubs, and actually isn't on his normal route home. It's also not a street that two young girls should be on, even while there's still daylight.

The light at a crosswalk behind him turns green - right on time for the twins, if they still intend to chase after him.

SammieK - December 3, 2005 06:47 PM (GMT)
Oh, they most certainly intend to chase him. They both run across the street, trying to make sure that they don't lose sight of him.

They want to know where he lives, you know.

So they can put silly notes and such in his mailbox. Does Teague have a mailbox?

Mari gets a bit nervous as she looks around the street they're now on, but Jess is just a tad singleminded. Also she thinks she's tough.

Danie - December 3, 2005 06:50 PM (GMT)
That didn't deter them? Hm. Well.

He continues on, leading them down this street, then turning onto another, and another,...and they might notice, once or twice, that they're following him along streets he's already been on, and going the opposite direction, no less.

SammieK - December 3, 2005 06:54 PM (GMT)
Mari is getting tired. Jess is getting angry.

A sudden, hard gust of wind should hit Teague in the chest about now.

Jess has less control over her magic when she's emotional. She tries to pretend that it's nothing to do with the fact that she is an elemental witch and quite powerful, though. It's coincidence.

Must be.

Danie - December 3, 2005 06:57 PM (GMT)
At this point, Teague turns around.
He doesn't say a word, he just looks at them, with a faint, knowing (even smug!) smile on his face. Then he lifts a hand and gives them a teasing little wave.

SammieK - December 3, 2005 07:00 PM (GMT)
Jess scowls. Mari flushes.

A gust of wind buffets him in the side of the head.

(Jess is pretending that she doesn't have anything to do with the sudden rise in the wind, but it's not that difficult to figure out. The wind is... nodding to her, as it does what it thinks will please her.)

Danie - December 3, 2005 07:05 PM (GMT)
It's a good thing it's only wind, and not something more solid.

"Goodness, girls... all you needed to do was ask," he grinned, tilting his head to one side. "Is that so difficult?"

SammieK - December 3, 2005 07:08 PM (GMT)
Mari flushes again and Jess folds her arms.

"We didn't want to ask."

Because stalking is so much more fun, don't you think?

Danie - December 3, 2005 07:11 PM (GMT)
It is if the stalkee doesn't know what's going on.
"Ah, well, have it your way," he shrugs. Giving an amiable little salute, he turns and continues on his way home - and he's going home this time, not taking a million little detours.

SammieK - December 3, 2005 07:14 PM (GMT)
That was not the purpose of that little encounter.

Sigh.

Mari tugs at Jess's sleeve.

"We ought to go home. Mum's gonna be mad."

Jess shook her head. "When he gets home, then we go."

And they follow him again.

Danie - December 3, 2005 07:19 PM (GMT)
He leads them to his home, this time - where's the harm in it, really?
It doesn't even take five minutes to get there, now that he's not leading them in circles. They arrive at a tall, old-looking apartment building - charmingly old, not graffitied concrete, pastel-coloured old. It's a brick building. It's almost quaint.
Teague walks up the front steps and disappears inside.

SammieK - December 3, 2005 07:21 PM (GMT)
Well, now what?

Jess surveys the building thoughtfully, while Mari fidgets and considers the fact that they're going to be in such trouble when they get home.

They need to know what number's his, for one thing.

Jess sighs and glances at Mari. Her sister will know she's using magic if she does it deliberately, but...

A tiny little breeze follows him inside, where the girls don't quite dare to go.

Danie - December 3, 2005 07:32 PM (GMT)
He's being tailed by a breeze - that's a first. Teague pays it no mind, and ambles up the stairs to his apartment (apartment 5b on the second floor). The place is a tad slovenly, just like Teague himself. Clothes here and there, an empty coffee cup on the floor. He leans against one of the walls and starts peeling off his gloves and humming softly.

SammieK - December 3, 2005 07:47 PM (GMT)
There.

"All right, now we can go."

And they do.
