Title: Totally wasted
Description: Open to anyone.
Arcane Blood - November 26, 2005 01:04 AM (GMT)
Totally wasted.
The position he was in looked quite pitiful. It could've been easily compared to that of a bum or drunken man, curled up against the wall and nearly asleep but not quite. His back was to the wall of his apartment building in which he shared with Bomani. His knees were drawn to his chest and he was slouching over. It was snowing outside, and he watched the thick, fat flakes drift from the sky and land on the street or sidewalks.
Wasted space.
He took a drag of his cigarette and sighed deeply. He allowed the cigarette to burn and he inhaled the cold November air through his nostrils. He exhaled heavily, a cloudy white mist floating out of his nostrils and mouth, where his hot breath had collided with the frigid air.
Wasted air.
It was snowing outside and all that covered him was a thin, black cotton t-shirt and a pair of dirty, ripped jeans that were once very stylish. They still were, technically, stylish, just ripped and dirty. His shirt, of course, was long-sleeved, though was ripped badly on his right shoulder, revealing the name JEHOVAH in big, bold black letters. A new tattoo.
Tattooed on the right side of his neck, there was the name BOMANI in the same big, bold black letters. He'd had his nose pierced as well as the right side of his lip. His brown hair hung in his face, as was natural for Lucifer. His hair looked both soft and thick for once. Healthy, unlike the rest of him. His green eyes, large and sad, watched the snow fall.
Wasted flesh.
He took another drag of his cigarette, his expression blank.
Wasted humanity.
Totally wasted.

Snow, cold and wet. Viv did her best to ignore it. It didn't seem to touch her if one looked closely, neither did the drifts of wind. She still looked cold though. Her cheeks were redder than what could be called rosy and her ears were a deep burgundy. Normally cold weather hardly touched her, but she seemed more suseptible to it this year inspite of being over her magical imbalance.
She had on a pair of gloves, the sort that looked like driving gloves really. She also wore a heavy barn coat, it was partly covered in what looked like paint and mortar. Her work pants looked covered in the same stuff. Her hair was pulled back in it's usual severe braid and tucked under a plain black ski cap which didn't wholly cover her ears.
A large leather covered book was clutched in her left hand. The weather didn't seem to touch it either. She walked over and hunkered down on the walkway into a squat. "I'm a bit late with getting you this book I'm afraid." she said simply as she held it out to him.
She said nothing about the tatoos, how he looked or inquired about how he was feeling. She just got to her point, just how she is.
Arcane Blood - November 26, 2005 05:55 PM (GMT)
Her words hardly registered in his brain. He held out his cigarette to burn a minute and looked up, ever so slightly. He didn't recognize the way she looked. Lucifer never did. It wasn't the words she spoke. It wasn't her work clothes. He remembered the voice and the eyes. Those never changed.
After a moment of looking at her, he nodded. The words made sense now, being spoken from her lips.
"Hey... thanks. I completely forgot about that. You didn't have to." He took the book with his free hand and set it down on his knees. He looked her over, briefly.
"You been busy with work?" Only explanation for all of that paint and mortar to be covering her.
K-Squared - November 26, 2005 06:00 PM (GMT)
She's been busy with work, unless she works til she's ready to pass out she can't sleep lately. "Yeah, been keeping busy." she says. She isn't about to volunteer anything about her nightmares lately. She hasn't even told her boyfreind about them.
"Aren't you freezing like that?" she asked him. It shouldn't seem so remarkable to her that he isn't there was a time when the elements didn't touch her. Still it was spoken now. Her eyes followed the cherry on the end of the cigarette. She said nothing about what a bad habit it was.
Arcane Blood - November 26, 2005 06:16 PM (GMT)
"You look like it. Doesn't it get tiring?" He asked because he didn't know how inhuman Viv really was. He brought the cigarette back to his lips, looking up at her.
"I guess, kind of." He shrugged.
"It's November. It's snowing. Aren't you freezing?"
Nevermind the fact that Viv was dressed warmly. Lucifer had it in his head that everyone must be cold around this time of year.
K-Squared - November 26, 2005 06:30 PM (GMT)
"Tiring can be good. If I never got tired how would I be able to sleep. And yeah I'm cold. Never used to get cold at all." She mumbled in her southern accent.
"What are you doing out here, or do you not smoke inside?" she asked. She couldn't think of any good reason for him to be out here. "How've you been anyhow?" she asked. He hadn't been very good at all when they met.
Arcane Blood - November 26, 2005 06:34 PM (GMT)
"Mm. That's true. You shouldn't work yourself to death. And who does, anyway?" He replied, the last statement referring to getting used to the cold.
"Don't smoke inside. Bo would break my fingers if he knew I still smoked. I tried quitting a thousand times." He smiled a little tightly after stubbing out his cigarette on the ground.
Then he just shrugged. "Trying to be ok. What about you? Besides busy, I mean."
K-Squared - November 26, 2005 06:47 PM (GMT)
"Break your fingers hmm? I doubt it would stop you, if you can't stop yourself." she said with a soft chuckle. There was a time when she would have seen the logic in breaking someone's fingers to keep them from smoking. Now she didn't. She wasn't even sure what had changed that. She just knew it was pointless now.
"And mostly I'm just busy. I can't slow down whenever I do things seem to happen. You keeping busy with anything?" She asked.
Arcane Blood - November 26, 2005 10:36 PM (GMT)
He smiled a little more softly at her comment, pushing locks of brown hair out of his eyes and behind his ears. "That's true. He means well, though." He gave another little shrug.
"Ah... that's too bad. You're a workaholic, then? Myself... I don't know if there's anything to keep me busy these days. I went back to work just a couple of days ago, though, if that counts for anything."
He reached in his pocket and pulled out another cigarette.
K-Squared - November 26, 2005 10:53 PM (GMT)
"I guess I am a workaholic. Well if you've managed to go back to work you must be gettign around okay. I'm glad for that much at least." she told him.
She reached out and tapped the book. "Be careful if you try anything from the book. It's author was a tad on the looney side. Brilliant but crazy you know." she warned him. She wasn't about to mention that her father wrote it. That little fact could neatly proclaim itself when the book was opened and the first page said written by Macsen Kildares. The book was roughly a hundred and fifty years old. Viv had made a lot of notes in it herself keeping the information in it current in the last few months. "Some of the rituals work fine even with out help, but most require an anchor and an assistant." she commented softly. She really had no idea if he had any intention of using the book or if he simply covetted it's knowledge for the sake of knowledge.
The knowledge itself was good to have. At times she was terribly ammused at using information she'd learned from a book her father had written to keep her father from possessing her.
Arcane Blood - November 26, 2005 10:59 PM (GMT)
"Try not to work yourself to death though. 'Kay, Viv? And thanks."
He dug around in his other pocket for his lighter and lit his cigarette. He looked up at her for a moment, seeming to be thinking about what she said.
"Yeah. There were... a few people like that in history. There still are a few more people in the world like that." He paused. He didn't let on the fact that he planned to try and use any of the rituals. He said nothing, but nodded.
"In any case, thanks. It's much appreciated."
K-Squared - November 26, 2005 11:13 PM (GMT)
"Work myself to death, I'm not sure there's enough work in the city for that. Give me a ring when you're done with the ook and I'll pick it up. I do trust you'll be careful about letting just anyone have a look at it." she said to him.
She said nothing about people in the world who were brilliant and mad, opting to skip the fact that she fell into that category herself.
She fished a card out of her pocket. "Call me if you need any questions about the book answered." she said handing it over then shoving her hands in her pockets. She actually sat rather than squatting now. For the moment it felt good to sit still.
Arcane Blood - November 30, 2005 07:29 PM (GMT)
"I don't know. It's a pretty big city." He allowed himself to shrug another time, looking at the leather-bound book that was now resting on his knees. He held his cigarette out to burn with one hand, securing the book so it wouldn't fall with his other hand.
"Yeah. Don't worry, I'll be careful." Lucifer was always careful... or at least tried to be. He was just rather... unlucky.
"Mmkay." He brought his cigarette back to his lips, took the card with his free hand and let it down on top of the book.
After a moment, he pulled the cigarette away and exhaled.
"Do you have any more work for today?"
It was kind of silly, them sitting on the sidewalks while it was snowing out. He'd invite her into the apartment, probably, if she wasn't doing anything.
K-Squared - December 1, 2005 12:42 AM (GMT)
"Work, only if I take any emergency repair jobs. The phone rings all night, but usually after six I let the voicemail answer." she said watching plumes of her breath creep upward in the cold air.
Her stomach gave a loud rumble and she looked down at it as if it were possesed. "Excuse me." she said as she looked back up.
Arcane Blood - December 1, 2005 07:36 PM (GMT)
"Mm... that doesn't sound too bad." He looked at her, then back at the falling snowflakes. He took a drag of his cigarette and exhaled.
"Do you want to come inside...?"
He heard her stomach rumble.
"And perhaps eat something?"
K-Squared - December 1, 2005 11:14 PM (GMT)
"Out of the cold sounds good. I don't know about eating though, I have what you could call an abnormal appetite." Viv told him. She stood up slowly with fluid like motions and watched the fat snowflakes for a minute or two while he finished his cigarette.
(Blah it's short)
Arcane Blood - December 1, 2005 11:27 PM (GMT)
"It's okay. I've known a few bottomless pits in my lifetime," obviously meaning people who ate all the time and remained hungry.
He stood after throwing his cigaretee butt on the street, his movements awkward and almost strained. But, nevertheless, he was now standing.
"Bo always keeps plenty of food in the fridge, in case I get hungry, even if I never usually eat."
He flexed his freezing fingers, taking several slow steps toward the apartment building.
K-Squared - December 1, 2005 11:32 PM (GMT)
"Yes well food can get very expensive. I think I eat twice as much in teh winter time. Never did down south but here I seem to." She said not commenting on his awkward movements, though she did notice.
She followed him towards the apartment building but not too closely. Viv can be rather weird about her personal space.
Arcane Blood - December 1, 2005 11:44 PM (GMT)
"Like I said, s'ok. I think some of it might go bad if somebody doesn't eat it, anyway." He shrugged, opening the door to the apartment building. He held it open for Viv, even as she seemed to stay a distance away from him.
K-Squared - December 1, 2005 11:53 PM (GMT)
She closed the distance quickly just to get indoors and let him shut the door. No use trying to heat the neigborhood by holding the door opened afterall.
Her ears tingled a bit as she stood in the apartment and looked around. She saw no evidence of the wheel chair that had been present on her last visit. She took it as a good sign but said nothing about it.
"Is there someplace I can wash my hands?" she asked.
Arcane Blood - December 2, 2005 12:15 AM (GMT)
Lucifer let the door click shut and nodded.
"There's hand soap near the kitchen sink and in the bathroom. Both sinks are always clean, so take your pick."
He slipped his shoes off, revealing pale bare feet.
"Is there anything in particular you like to eat?"
K-Squared - December 2, 2005 11:14 PM (GMT)
"Ah, well strange as it may sound, meat of most any sort. I'm not big on sweets or salad." she answered making her way to the kitchen sink to wash her hands. She was very deliberate about the whole handwashing process, to an onlookeer it might seem like she were scrubbing in for surgery, or just down right obsessive. Paint and things on her work clothes hardly bothered her but having any sort of build up on her hands was something of a personal distraction for Viv.
Arcane Blood - December 3, 2005 12:54 AM (GMT)
"'Kay." He briefly glanced at her while she was washing her hands. She looked like she was trying to scrub the skin off her hands. He said nothing. He walked into the kitchen and set the book down on the counter.
He opened the fridge and said, "I'm assuming you're not partial to fried scorpians or lizard's tail."
K-Squared - December 3, 2005 06:35 AM (GMT)
"Depends on the lizard, gator tail is down right decent eating and so is rattle snake prepared correctly. " she answered. The notion of fried scorpions or lizard tails didn't seem at all strange to her judging by her reaction to the inquiry.
She knew, however that most people didn't eat that sort of thing, and she wondered if it might be why Luc didn't eat much.
Arcane Blood - December 3, 2005 03:18 PM (GMT)
"I don't know what kind of lizard it is. Just know it's... well, some fried part of some innocent lizard." He shrugged.
"Would you rather a steak?" He asked, voice muffled by the fact he was talking into the fridge as he was looking through possible meat for her to eat. He knew they had steak. Bomani made sure to buy Lucifer some of his "odd food" as he had called it, so he wouldn't starve.
He starved anyway.
And Lucifer didn't think someone who ate sugared scorpions had a right to call eggs "odd food".
K-Squared - December 3, 2005 05:33 PM (GMT)
"Hmm might not taste all that good then, gators are hardly what I'd call innocent. Steak is good though. What do you like?" She asked him while he still peered into the fridge sticking his whole head in there.
"Cause if there's nothing in there you like we could just go grab something." she pointed out.
Arcane Blood - December 3, 2005 05:40 PM (GMT)
"It's not that there's nothing I don't like," he said with a gentle shrug, pulling out a steak, still package and uncooked. He stood and shut the fridge door, setting the meat down on the counter.
"It's just I don't eat."
"Now, do you mind if I just stick this on a pan and cook it? Don't have a grill."
It would still taste good, either way. Some people just have preferences.
K-Squared - December 3, 2005 05:50 PM (GMT)
Viv wouldn't care if it was raw, but people found that alarming. She couldn't after all explain away the fact it wouldn't make her sick because of her demon blood and such. "That's fine, I'm not picky. Why don't you eat?" she asked thinking to herself, great another one, Uriel, Jesse, and now this one.....
Arcane Blood - December 3, 2005 05:59 PM (GMT)
"'Kay, cool."
He reached for a knife and opened the package. It was a boneless sort of steak. Rib eye or something, Luc thought they'd called it. Whatever.
He moved to the stove top and turned on the heat, thplacing the steak on the already oiled cast iron pan.
"And I dunno. Never really did before, so I don't now. Habit, you could say." Along with a lot of medical problems. But he didn't care.
K-Squared - December 3, 2005 06:07 PM (GMT)
there should be a support group for them, habitual non eaters anonymous she thought absently smelling the meat, even raw it smelled heavenly. She tried not to fidget too much. Her stomach gave another series of thunder like rumbles and she sheepishly apologized for them.
"So where is your roommate anyhow?" she asked trying not to think of the gnawing pit in her middle.
Arcane Blood - December 3, 2005 06:11 PM (GMT)
Lucifer paid little attention to her stomach grumblings, waving a hand in dismissal when she attempted to apologize for them.
"My roommate...? He's probably still working."
He walked over to the other side of the counter and pulled out a rather large fork, returning back to the meat, watching it cook. Even with the smell, he wasn't really that hungry.
K-Squared - December 3, 2005 06:19 PM (GMT)
Viv felt like she could eat a whole cow at times. Cheddar had assured her that such was biologically possible for her but that she might feel bloated.
She knew one steak wouldn't fill her up, but she wan't about to point that out. She'd just stop and get something else by and by, like thirty cheeseburgers with no pickles or something. Meahwhile she watched Luc cok her soon to be snack.
"Does he seriously eat all that weird stuff, what's up with that?" she asked.
Arcane Blood - December 3, 2005 07:47 PM (GMT)
"Mmhm." Lucifer smiled faintly, poking the steak with the fork. "He's Egyptian, see. Food like that is normal for him."
"D'you want anything else? A drink?" He glanced briefly over his shoulder at her.
K-Squared - December 3, 2005 11:48 PM (GMT)
"Oh well being from some place distant and all does account for exotic taste in quisine." she said with a chuckle. Most people she knew who partook of such a strange diet were mages or some type of magical creature. Viv found she could never be too careful about anyone though, so a small fringe of suspicion remained, though not much. Wouldn't a magically powerful roommate have done a healing number before she had when Luc was hurt?
"Well if you don't eat much what do you drink?" she asked out of curiosity, perhaps he was taking in nutrients there.....
Arcane Blood - December 3, 2005 11:59 PM (GMT)
"True. But I bet Bomani would still like fried scorpians and whatever else if he were from around here. Because he's just... different like that."
He was watching the steak cook again.
"Vodka. Beer. Water."
At one point, Lucifer had been an alcoholic. He still sort of was, though not as much as he used to be.
He offered a faint smile.
"I can get you something if you want."
K-Squared - December 4, 2005 12:13 AM (GMT)
"Water, the strongest thing I drink is white tea. In fact I have a case of green tea hat I've no clue what to do with. Stronger than I'll drink but it was a payemtn of sorts." She explained.
"Odd enough to eat scorpions anyway you say, I don't think I should ask. Have you ever tried them?" she asked him. She herself had never eaten a scorpion and she did wonder what they tasted like.
Arcane Blood - December 4, 2005 12:30 AM (GMT)
"Water... 'kay. I can do water." So he walked over to one of the cabinets and pulled out a glass.
"Mm. No, actually. Never tried them." He shrugged.
(Ugh, short post. Sorries.)
K-Squared - December 4, 2005 12:41 AM (GMT)
"Perhaps I shall have to then, you only live once afterall, well no that isn't quite right." she said making a face and thinking about her father.
She accepted the water and drank half of it simply to keep from further putting her foot in her mouth while talking to him. She didn't want him to think she was crazy, though at times she certainly could be.
She watched him turn the steak. "Medium rare is fine." she offered.
Arcane Blood - December 4, 2005 07:58 PM (GMT)
"Some people live twice... in a sense." It was funny. She was thinking about her father and he was thinking about Kaldun. They were both thinking about... spirits, in a way.
"Still mooing?" he asked in turn. The only way he considered a steak fully dead was when it was cooked well done. It was simply a joke.
K-Squared - December 4, 2005 11:51 PM (GMT)
"Still mooing no, it needs to be dead but still bleeding is okay. When a thing is dead it ought to stay dead......" she answered both questions at once, slightly preoccupied with thoughts of who should be dead, she wasn't supposed to be alive really, either.
