It's raining - not a lot yet, but it will be soon. And it's cold. Violet likes it that way - if she would admit to liking anything at the moment. It's as if the weather is being sympathetic.

She's trudging along towards the dorms, having finished classes for the day, and she feels she's nearing collapse. Shrugging her bookbag into a more comfortable shape, Violet frowns at the ground as if it's mortally offended her. If only she could get Dave, that boy-germ, out of her head.
The split was for the best, after all.
Now if he would just go, everything would be fine.

"Well, hel-lo, honey."

Jetta is very nasty. We knew this already. She calculated her voice to be absolutely the most irritating thing Violet will hear all day.

Even pregnant, she manages to look sexy. This is due to jeans that hide the swell of her belly and a fluttery top that finishes the job.

"Don't you look happy today."

Violet glanced at Jetta over her shoulder.
"Oh. What do you want?" she grumbled. "Got tired of working the streets, so you're here to screw me over again?"
...No amount of adjectives will express my surprise at Violet's use of that quip.

"Funny, pet."

She is not amused.

"Actually, I was wondering how you were getting on with dear little Dave. Has he got tired of you yet?"

"We broke up."
Not 'he broke up with me' or 'I broke up with him'. They broke up.
"Now go away."

Funny. Dave used exactly the same words.

"Oou, do tell, honey. Was it he or you who said the words? I'm simpy dying of curiosity."

I've said it before. But she is such a bitch.

"I believe I told you to go away," Violet replied, with a curious breathy hiss underlying the words. "Or maybe you understand the words 'fuck off' better?"

My, my,... and Violet used to be such a nice girl.

"Now, honey, there's no need to get personal."

She's enjoying her apparent ability to push Violet's buttons. This is obvious in the catlike smile and the smug crinkling of her eyes.

"Which was it, pet?"

"You're asking personal questions, you get personal answers," Violet growls, ducking her head and hurrying up her pace. She just has to get to the dorms, and Jetta will go away. "It's none of your business, anyway."

"He broke up with you, didn't he."

She sounds delighted.

"I knew he would. You're simply not up to his standards. Much too young, for one thing."

Violet spun on her, marching up close and ballng her hands in fists at her sides.
"Whether he did or not is none of your business," she hssed. She has to tilt her head up slightly to look into Jetta's eyes - she's shorter than the older girl, though she has a certain ...presence when angry that makes up for the spare inch or two.
"Now leave me alone."

"So touchy."

Jetta is not intimidated. Pity. It would be nice if someone could manage to scare her, once in a while.

"He did. You don't even have to tell me, pet. It's obvious."

Violet's face crumpled. For a moment it looked as if she was going to cry. Instead, she slid herself a step backwards, just enough to give herself room to swing.
And swing she did. With a closed fist, at Jetta's face. She aimed for the jaw/mouth area, but when she's this far off the edge, who knows where she could hit.

Jetta is not practiced at dodging blows. Even Dave, in a fit of temper, has never hit her.

She looks at Violet, in a thoroughly stunned way, and narrows her eyes.

"Teague!"

Violet wonders vaguely if 'Teague' is meant to be some sort of insult, but doesn't ask.

Instead, she takes another step back - not quite out of hitting range, if she chooses to go back infor another try - but far back enough. "Now will you go away?"

Teague, meanwhile, has given an exasperated sigh and is rapidly making his way towards the girls. He's well within sight now, actually. If Violet goes ballistic he'll be close enough to prevent any damage.

"I most certainly will not."

She folds her arms and glares most angrily.

"You hadn't any right to hit me."

"And you hadn't any right to pry into my personal life," Violet hisses. "You got what you had coming to you."
Can't argue with that...
Teague appears, seemingly out of nowhere, and places a hand on each girl's shoulder.
"Now girls, what's the matter here?" He casts a look at Jetta that plainly says, Must you always be doing this?
Violet shrugs him off, and looks like she'd rather like to hit him as well.

Jetta gives him an innocent look that might have fooled a complete idiot. Might.

She shrugs and tosses her hair.

"I have no idea, Teague honey. She hit me, and without any provocation too."

"Oh, don't," he groans, rolling his eyes theatrically. "Come now, Jetta, you must think I'm stupid."
Teague turns to look at Violet. "And you, you'd better be running along."

"Don't need to tell me twice," Violet muttered. This man was in league with Jetta, somehow, which automatically put him into the 'stupid jerk' category.

"I don't, do I. Take care of yourself." he said, as she turned and hurried (really hurried) away.

"I only asked her an innocent question," Jetta protests.

"Though if I had to think about it, I'd have to say that you are pretty stupid. Drunks usually are. You know alcohol kills brain cells, don't you?"

Ouch.
"I'm aware of it, yes. But I figure I have a few to spare." He blinked, smiling amiably. "And when was the last time you did anything innocent, love?"

She slaps him.

"Hmph."

She glances off in Violet's direction thoughtfully.

"I wonder why he broke up with her..." A nasty smile at Teague. "Why did he, honey?"

He does't do a thing. The smile remains very well-fixed on his face.
"As she said," he shrugged. "It's really none of your business."
That, and he doubts she'd believe him if he did tell her.

She takes his hand and places it gently on her stomach. Baby's kicking.

"Oh, come on, honey. Pretty please?"

Manipulative little...rrg....

"Jetta,... I'm not here to be the gossip hotline, understand?..." He sighed. "...If you absolutely must know, it seems he broke up with her to,... protect her. Nice of him, I think. He's a good sort, really. Violent, though."

"Protect her? Whomever from?"

No, this is completely not innocent curiosity. Not. At. All.

"Err,.. difficult question. She's... more of a 'what'." He smiled apologetically . They were getting to the point where Jetta was really not going to believe him.

"Now you're just playing. Tell me, honey."

She smiles brightly.

"I'm going to have a sonogram soon, you know. I can get pictures."

Very manipulative.

He should be able to say no.
But he isn't.

"You're not going to believe me," he shook his head. ".. This, 'what', well, she's been making trouble. You remember the woman that you took pictures of? In the park? That would be her. It. Whichever. Very dangerous,... person."

"So he's protecting the little girl from that other woman? Why, catfights?"

She giggles a little at that.

"Those are nothing."

"Ah. No. Unless your definition of catfight involves guns." He smirked. "But even then, they didn't fight ... It was mostly just the shooting bit."

Her eyes light up.

"Oou. You have to tell me all about it."

Nasty, nasty girl.

He took his hand away, and dragged it slowly down one side of his face.
"Alright. Alright. But later. Not right now. Okay, love?"

"Later," she agrees.

"And I'll be sure to have pictures of the sonogram. I might even let you look at them."

And she strolls away.
