Title: Passing The Night Away
oneofmanysouls - October 4, 2005 12:16 AM (GMT)
It's dark out. Probably around 10:30pm or so. The streets are quiet except for a few people wandering about here and there. But are they really people? They could be anything. This is Bayfield after all. There is one that is walking out in the night who is not a 'people'. No. She is far from being 'people'. She is immortal. A vampire if you will. A short vampire even. Five foot two inches tall. Long bright red hair that goes down to her waist. She's left it down entirely tonight.
There's something different about the vampire woman tonight. She's out walking her dog. That's not unusual. She walks her dog almost every night. Not always but close enough. What's unusual is about the way she's dressed. Anyone who knows her will know just how unusual it really is. She's wearing a pair of black *gasp* pants. Who knew she even owned a pair of pants. I sure didn't. She's also wearing a dark red shirt that buttons down the front. The buttons are *gasp* all buttoned up. It's also long sleeved. On her feet are a pair of stylish boots that are pointy-ish at the toe and has a one inch heel. They are black.
Sasha is at her side. Her leash is actually drapped over her back instead of in her vampire's hand. Sasha doesn't leave her vampire's side when they are out together anyway so it doesn't matter if Enyo is holding onto the leash or not. She has no real reason for being out and about tonight other than the fact that she's walking her dog. She's wary now. More cautious. Of people around her. Having the crap kicked out of you seems to put the world around you in a different perspective really. It has for her anyway.
The Ultimate Lurker - October 4, 2005 03:09 PM (GMT)
Emrys doesn't know Enyo, nor can he even see that she's wearing pants. The man is blind. We may as well say it now rather then putting it off and trying to pretend he's not because he is, he is very very blind.
Emrys could hear distinctly. The street was fairly empty. Emrys has been beaten to a bloody pulp with magic in a place like this on a street like this twice before. So why is he braving the streets again? Because he'd had a vision, this one a future vision, not a past one. This was what would happen to that woman in three nights to come, so he'd gone to warn her. She'd thought he was crazy, thought he thought of himself as a prophet, didn't believe him. But Emrys knew that in two days she would think about it again, get paranoid, avoid where the attack would happen. Being thought of as crazy was a small price to pay for someones life.
Emrys could hear everything distinctly. The tap of tonails, a dog, the jingle of the leash clip touching the collar clip. The tapping of moving boots. The sound of the dog panting. He usually can't hear human breath so it's no suprise that he can't hear her doing such.
He had been walking in her direction, towards the college, trying to ignor that someone else was on the street. But when he'd come in eight feet of her, his nerve broke and he turned and moved away, his mahogany cane tapping over the sidewalk quickly. He was dressed in blue jeans and a dark blue polo shirt, all plain so that it matched no matter what he wore. He too is short at five feet five inches and has broad shoulders, a strong build. Darkly tanned skin looks weathered, his hair is shoulder length and let down to cover his pointed ears. Over his eyes however, covering most of the scars on his eyes, is a black blindfold tied around his head.
He seemed as if he was running away from her, even though she'd not done anything. He stumbled twice.
oneofmanysouls - October 4, 2005 10:14 PM (GMT)
Her own nervousness grew slightly as she noticed someone walking in her direction. She's grown wary of people for obvious reasons. It hadn't been a stranger that had attacked her but it still made her wary none the less. If someone she knew could attack her, why wouldn't it be possible for a complete stranger to do the same?
Bright green eyes watched the man as he walked in her direction. She knows it's a man because she can smell him. She's grown tense. Sasha can feel it even though her vampire isn't holding her leash. The waryness in her eyes changed to surprise as the man suddenly turned and began to hurry away from her. She watched him stumble twice and called out to him.
"Are you okay?" she asked. Her voice angelic and musical. It also holds nervousness behind it.
The Ultimate Lurker - October 5, 2005 03:39 AM (GMT)
Nervousness. Now that's something you don't hear in the underlying tones of a killer or, in Logan's case, a bratty child set out to destroy what little confidence a handicapped man has. Unless of course, this happened to be a very good actress. Emrys was no longer willing to take the chances he once had.
Turning half way around, lifting the cane from the ground, as if to turn towards her to speak, he nodded. "Yes, ma'am. Thank you," he hadn't stopped walking and damned be it all, Emrys ran his shoulder into a lightpole. He stumbled again, grabbing the pole for balance and dropping the cane. It rolled and clattered to a stop in the gutter.
Even if he hadn't been blind, he'd have run into the pole, because he'd been turned partially around.
oneofmanysouls - October 5, 2005 03:45 AM (GMT)
Nervousness. Yes. That is what she is feeling. No. You don't hear that in the underlying tones of a killer. That would be because, even though she is a vampire, she isn't a killer. Technically. Well. She won't kill unless necessary. Which it's not. At least she hopes not.
She was about to say something and continue on her way when she noticed him heading right into the lightpole. Without even giving it second though, she was at his side in an instant, helping him stand again. A mortal wouldn't have been able to see her go from one place to the other.
"Running into a pole doesn't count for being alright," she said softly. "Are you sure you're okay?"
The Ultimate Lurker - October 5, 2005 04:27 AM (GMT)
Emrys wouldn't be able to see her go from one place to the other even if a mortal could see it. While she's helping him, does she notice the blindfold? Or that his body has gone ridged? He'd not even had time to protest her touching him like he usually did. And suddenly, he wasn't just lying there. Emrys' body began to shudder and twitch, he coughed, then coughed again, twitched. His fingers formed claws and racked at his own cheeks, over top of thin scars that seemed to have been formed in the same fashion.
He could see at first, at the point where he'd gone entirly ridged, her. Only, not a clear image as if he were looking. Rather he saw like she was made of flames. And then, at the point where his body had begund to go into seizures, his vision began.
A man on the ground in an ally. Dead, her lover, he could feel it was her lover. And he was dead. And then she was being attacked. She was not being killed, she was being made. And then being used. Like an item. Fucked and thrown aside like a whore. Killing, feeding. He knew what she was, vampire, myth but not myth, like demons. Vampire, killing. Killing the one that made her. He watched her feed, watched her make like she'd been made. He witnessed the fight that the boy, boy because no matter his height, he must be younger then Emrys himself. He watched the boy fight, spit at her. Fighting him recently, Emrys watched her taunt and pick and force this vampire to bite her. Caused him pain. Caused her pain. He could feel her pain. Then he was watching her struggle with a mortal, this the freshest memory of them all. He could physically feel her hurt.
His body stopped suddenly and he was coughing again, blood seeping from the scratches, from between his lips, he stuggled. It's hard to tell that the seizures have stopped and he's begun to struggle away.
oneofmanysouls - October 5, 2005 04:35 AM (GMT)
She hadn't noticed at first, but she did now. The blindfold on his face. And, yes, she's noticed that his body has gone ridged. What's even more startling for the vampire woman is how he has begun to shudder and twitch. But not near as much as when he began clawing his own face. What the hell??
Her hands recoiled from him and she moved backwards away. Feeling even more nervous and wary than she had before. She had no idea what the hell was going on. And it was freaking her out. Ever since the run in with the one who'd beat the shit out of her and tried to destroy her, she had been avoiding the majority of mortals entirely.
"What's wrong with you?" she asked in a mere whisper. Her angelic voice touched with a slight tremmer of fear.
The Ultimate Lurker - October 5, 2005 04:56 AM (GMT)
When her hands released him and he could coherently hear again, he struggled away from her, scrapped his palms and fell backwards off the curb into the road in a rushing attempt to get free from her. This vampire. This killer.
"Don't hurt me. Don't make me.....don't hurt me please! Don't make me." Make me? Make me a vampire he means. Last time he'd refused to beg and he remembers where that got him.
He whimpered softly, remembering all too freshly in his mind what Logan had done to him the last time they'd met. This only made him cough harder, go into another short fit of visions while laying in the road, recalling what had happened in the last incident. And then he lay on his back, exhasted and bleeding, weiry, coughing blood, and unable to move anymore. It takes a lot out to have a seizure, the muscles all twitch and jump and work until it leaves you physically exhasted.
oneofmanysouls - October 5, 2005 05:03 AM (GMT)
Confusion. A lot of it.
"Hurt you?" she asked softly sounding so very confused. "Make you?" Wait. What the hell? How does he know?
She stands there. Staring. Before moving towards the man to try to help him sit up. She kneels down beside him and hesitantly lifts her hands out towards him.
"I'm not going to hurt you," she says sincerely. "I'm not going to make you into what I am either. I did that once. And only once. And will never do it again. Ever."
She's not yet touched him to try to help him sit up. "Let me help you sit up. Please. I'm not going to hurt you."
The Ultimate Lurker - October 5, 2005 05:57 PM (GMT)
He doesn’t know her hands are up towards him or he probably would have shuddered backwards and away from her. Emrys tried to slid away at any rate when she was closer to him. “Don’t...my blood is bad. I have bad blood.” Don’t feed from me.
When he says he has bad blood, he doesn’t know that he’s got demon blood. All that Emrys knew was that his blood was not A+ A- B+ B- O+ O- AB+ or even AB-. The doctors in the hospital couldn’t identify his blood. That’s when he’d gotten Sin, his friend, to switch his doctor, unknowingly to Sinister, to an initiate doctor and confided in him that he was a seer. The doctor threw out his blood samples, so that no one would start doing blood tests on Emrys like he was a freak.
“Sit up?” He asked stupidly. He wanted to sit up, but he could do that on his own...maybe. He was breathing hard and he raised one hand to touch his cheeks, they stung. He used the back of his wrist to wipe away blood from his lips
oneofmanysouls - October 5, 2005 09:29 PM (GMT)
"I'm not going to." Feed on him. "I have no intentions on it. Didn't have intentions on it. I just want to help you because you're obviously not alright." She sounds... concerned.
"Yes. Sit up," she said softly. Still she'd not touched him again yet. "Do you want help? I can't just leave you laying there like that." Would you believe, the vampire is ignoring the blood on the mans face.
The Ultimate Lurker - October 6, 2005 04:43 AM (GMT)
I would believe it. Otherwise, it could be tempting. His blood is like some sort of drug to the supernatural type. It's why Verkur keeps coming back, Emrys' magic is like his blood, very satisfying.
Emrys lifted his head just a little and turned it to the side, as if looking for something in the opposite direction. Actually he was turning an ear towards her. His hair parted slightly, the tip of his ear poked through. Many thought he was an elf on first sight, or some sort of fea. Even the fae believed that sometimes. Because he didn't entirly smell human either. Only the most part of him.
"Your a killer," he whispered. "You...you killed...you made that....that boy. He...like you." Morose faught aginst being made. Like you did. He made a soft gagging sound, spit more blood. His head dropped tiredly back to the road.
oneofmanysouls - October 6, 2005 04:52 AM (GMT)
No worries Emrys. She really isn't looking to bite you. At all. Honestly. Hell, she's even hesitant to be here in the first place. I don't know who's more worried here. Emrys worrying about being fed upon by the vampire. Or the vampire worrying about having the shit kicked out of her again.
She cringed at his whispered words. Cringed from even more worry. Cringed from... fear. Yes. That's it. Fear. "What... what are you talking about?" she managed out and glanced around so very nervously. "How... how do you... how do you know...? I... I just want to help you... get off the ground... out of the road..."
The Ultimate Lurker - October 6, 2005 05:06 AM (GMT)
Yeah. Emrys scares a lot of people. Look at Logan. That was a mean feat to be able to shake that child up like he had. Only it hadn't been his ability to see visions that had scared Logan. It had been Emrys' ability to send the visions into Logan's mind that had mindfucked him.
"I...i..." You what? "I saw. I see..." Visions? "things." The word things was spoken with fear, disgusted. He rolled over slowly until he was on his stomach, spit more blood and then lifted himself up on strong arms, though they were shaking from tire. "I don't want to see. You touched me. I didn't touch you." Is he making any sense at all?
She wasn't going to feed on him. She wasn't going to hurt him. She sounded sincere. Logan had too. But... "Help." She's already touched him, done the damage.
oneofmanysouls - October 6, 2005 05:13 AM (GMT)
It was slowly making sense to her the more he spoke his answer to her questions. While she wasn't sure what he was, she figured out that he'd been able to see her past because of the things he'd said.
"..."
What do you say to someone who's just gotten a flash of your life? Really.
"I... just wanted to help..." she said. She really is as sincere as she sounds. "I... am sorry." And she is. It's hard enough for her to talk about her past much less learn that someone can see it just by her touching them like that.
However, when he said 'help', she moved to help him. "I... um... I'm going to touch you..." she warned before doing so. She pulled herself up into a standing position and bent down to put her hands under his arms. She pulled him up into a standing position so easily and then began to guide him towards the sidewalk.
The Ultimate Lurker - October 6, 2005 02:21 PM (GMT)
He nodded to her when she said she was going to touch him. “It doesn’t matter now.” Damage is done, neither he nor she can take back what he’d seen. He’d felt her hurt, her emotions, her physical pain, her victims pain and fear, Morose’s hate and anger. He’d felt it all. He was still shuddering as she guided him to the sidewalk. Even though she guided him, he held his hands, which were both covered nearly to the elbow in silvery smooth scars, out in front of him, stumbled on the curb, leaned against the wall of a building.
“I’m sorry,” it sounded weak. Sorry because he incidently invaded your past, your present. Sorry because now he knows you killed. Sorry because he’s afraid of you. “My cane?” It was still in the gutter. He groped the air at his waist as if to grab it, knowing well that it was on the ground somewhere.
oneofmanysouls - October 6, 2005 03:26 PM (GMT)
When he stumbled at the curb, she held onto his arm to prevent him from falling. She guided him to the wall before removing her hands from his arm. When he asked for his cane, she moved to retrieve it. After picking it up from the ground, she returned to the man. She reached for one of his hands and then guided it to his cane. "There you go," she said softly and removed her hands from him. She even took a step or two away from him. Sasha had remained sitting where she had done so when her vampire had stopped.
The vampire shook her head slightly but then felt stupid for doing so. "You've nothing to be sorry for," she said softly. "I should be the one saying I'm sorry. And I am. For upsetting you. I didn't mean to." She paused for a moment. "I'm Enyo."
The Ultimate Lurker - October 6, 2005 03:32 PM (GMT)
"You....didn't do it." Upset him that is. He'd done that himself. Or at least, his uncontrolable power combined with certin other previous events with a young boy, those had upset him. She'd just tried to help him.
He gripped his cane, rubbed the top with one scared hand, touched the scared hand with the other hand. The cuts on his cheeks stung, the scrapes on his palms throbbed. And then slowly, they began to heal over. Not entirly heal like a vampire does, but they formed scabs in seconds, where it would normally take hours.
"Em," he replied cautiously. Not even a full first name.
oneofmanysouls - October 6, 2005 03:41 PM (GMT)
The vampire watched every move he made. She was still feeling quite wary and cautious at the moment. "Is there anything I can get you, Em? Or something...?"
(eep! shortness!)
The Ultimate Lurker - October 6, 2005 03:57 PM (GMT)
Emrys shook his head. "Nothing. I just want to go home." Home being the college. The home called Wales he couldn't return to. The people in his city had called him a devil's child, his mother a witch. He couldn't go there. "I'm sorry," he said again, still very wary of her. She had, after all, killed someone.
oneofmanysouls - October 6, 2005 04:01 PM (GMT)
She started to nod her head again but stopped. "Very well," she said softly. "You should rest. That was a bit of a nasty fall you had." She paused for a moment and stood there in thoughtful silence.
"May I walk you part way?" Notice that she did not ask to walk him the entire way. She can sense that he is still wary of her. "I'm not going to hurt you. I'm not going to bite you. I'm not going to feed from you. And I'm not going to even think about turning you." She's trying to put his mind at ease. Whether it works or not is another story.
"I... try to stay away from... mortals," she said with her voice a little above a whisper. "I... fear them now..." Emrys will know why since he saw.
The Ultimate Lurker - October 6, 2005 04:46 PM (GMT)
He nodded. "I know," he replied to her talking about fearing them. And mentally he added and I fear killers, so we're even. He didn't move upon her offer but stayed rooted to the spot. He couldn't walk yet, his legs were still shaking. He could hardly stand just yet. After all, it had only been a month, maybe two weeks more, since his ankles had been stripped to the bone, and that fall off the curb hadn't helped any.
"Thank you. But I think I'm going to rest." It doesn't work, by the way. I doubt Emrys will ever relax around a stranger again.
oneofmanysouls - October 6, 2005 04:49 PM (GMT)
"Are you sure there isn't anything I can do for you? Get you something? Anything?" she asked softly, watching him. "It's my fault that you ended up falling and such. I'd like to make it up to you somehow."
The Ultimate Lurker - October 6, 2005 04:55 PM (GMT)
"It wasn't your fault," he shook his head. "The fault is someone elses." He didn't say 'the fault is my own' because it wasn't. Not really. It had been his choice to turn and to run and his fault for not looking and for falling, but all of that had been caused by the fear that a child had inflicted into him. It was Logan's fault, not his own. And not hers.
"I'm sure." He slowly slid down the wall to sit on the dirty sidewalk and nurse one ankle, rubbing it.
oneofmanysouls - October 6, 2005 05:03 PM (GMT)
She took another slight step away from him and crouched down against the wall with it to her back. Sasha finally got up from where she'd been sitting and trotted over towards the man. She stopped and sat in front of him.
"That's Sasha," the vampire spoke softly. "She's a rottweiler. And it looks like she likes you."
The Ultimate Lurker - October 6, 2005 05:13 PM (GMT)
He heard the Dog's toenail tappings again across the concret towards him and almost scoot away again until Enyo said 'looks like she likes you'. He almost reached out and then paused, drawing his scared hand back again. "Does she...." not bite. "Is she...do you fight her?" Because he wants to pet her, but oh dear, his visions aren't limited to humans. That sucks.
oneofmanysouls - October 6, 2005 05:22 PM (GMT)
The vampire smiled slightly as she listened to his questions.
"No," she said softly. "I do not fight her. She does not bite. She is a very sweet girl. Very protective of me." Can you hear the pride in her voice as she speaks of her dog.
"I should have taken her with me that night..." she said absently. She is obviously talking about the night that she was nearly destroyed.
The Ultimate Lurker - October 6, 2005 05:29 PM (GMT)
Emrys nodded and slowly reached out and hand until he found a wet nose, and he froze, like when he'd gone ridged. He saw her dog, in flames, like it was made of flames, and then he moved again. He moved his scared fingers carefully around the eyes so not to hurt the dog and stroked his hand down her neck, then repeated that process.
"She isn't afraid of me?" Most dogs hated him. Because he smelled like a demon. He sounded almost awestruck
oneofmanysouls - October 6, 2005 05:34 PM (GMT)
Flames? No. Sasha was not made of flames. She, and her littermates, had been shoved into a gunny sack and thrown into a river to drown. They had been found by a demon and raised by him.
"No. She's not afraid of you," she said with a smile in her voice. The dog could smell demon smell on him. It didn't phase her in the least. She had, after all, been raised by a demon. Sasha moved a little closer and laid down on her side. "It looks like she wants you to rub her tummy. She doesn't do that for just anyone. Just those that she feels she can trust. She did it for me the first time I met her."
The Ultimate Lurker - October 6, 2005 08:54 PM (GMT)
Emrys moved his hand over her neck, finding her chest with no fumbling at all and began to scratch the dogs belly.
"It's...suprising." That sasha should like him in the least of ways. I don't think anyones ever seen Emrys with an animal within ten yards of him aside from his falcon. "Most animals don't like me. I...always thought maybe..." he trailed off. It wasn't important and the vampire likely gave a damn about it.
oneofmanysouls - October 6, 2005 09:57 PM (GMT)
When one has been raised by a demon, they automatically know another. Sasha had taken to Vivienne really rather quickly as well. However, surely she wouldn't if she felt the other was a threat of some sort.
"You always thought what?" the vampire asked.
The Ultimate Lurker - October 7, 2005 03:56 AM (GMT)
"I always thought it might be....my magic that repelled them. I'm negitive." Not just his personality, which it highly is. The only time it's not is when he's with Sinister. But his magic drew negitive forces, negitive thoughts, bad memories, frightening things. Anything that was surely and undoubtfully evil, it drew out. Killing, for instance. The only thing good about him was his healing abilities. "Or my appearance."
He made a little guesture, almost like hiding his hands at the words. He was ashamed of all the scars, and perhapes that was why animals were afraid of him. They sense things. And Emrys was negitive.
oneofmanysouls - October 7, 2005 04:00 AM (GMT)
But there was obviously some good in the man for Sasha to have gone over to him as she had. The dog wouldn't do that with just anyone you know.
"It's obviously not bothering her," the vampire said softly. "Remember, she owns a vampire. The one who gave her to me, that raised her from a puppy, is a demon."
The Ultimate Lurker - October 7, 2005 04:10 AM (GMT)
"A demon?" He sounded suprised and puzzeled. Hadn't Logan told called him something like a monster or a demon in one of their 'meetings?' Or had it been when his blindfold had been yanked off during one of their struggles? For just a moment, Emrys had trouble swallowing and breathing. The thought of that boy did that to him often.
"And so she likes seers and healer and bitter blind men too then." He commented solomly. It's not really that he's bitter, He's just very very jaded. He's been victimized too many times, tourmented. And that boy was still out there somewhere. free.
oneofmanysouls - October 7, 2005 04:25 AM (GMT)
"Yes," she answered to his first question. "She's three years old. He found her, and her littermates, in a gunny sack in the river. Pulled them out, took care of them, raised them up and trained them. Sasha picked me not long after we first met. She was pretty insistant upon owning me." Can you hear the love and pride in her voice as she speaks of her dog?
"She doesn't think of it like that," she said softly. "She can sense the goodness in you. Otherwise, she would not have bothered to go near you." And it's true. A dog is a very good judge of character.
The Ultimate Lurker - October 7, 2005 02:30 PM (GMT)
"It's nice," he commented. His fingers dug at the dogs fur and flesh of her stomach, rubbing her belly as if he could see everything he was doing. He can't, but he's been blind long enough to gain a good sense of Kinesthesis. But unlike most blind me, he looked downward and in the direction of the dog rather then just straight ahead, giving the impression that he's not always been blind.
"Enyo," he said, then stopped for a long time as if he'd just wanted to say her name again. Really he was thinking. "You're really not going to hurt me are you?" He was starting to believe that. She'd been so afraid when she'd been attacked. Like himself.
oneofmanysouls - October 7, 2005 02:34 PM (GMT)
She was still crouched against the wall a few feet away from the blind man. Watching him. Watching Sasha. A slight smile upon her face. She lifted her gaze towards the blind man as he said her name. And waited. To see if he was going to say something further or if he was just saying her name.
"No. I'm really not going to hurt you," she said softly once his question came. "I promise you that." And a promise from this vampire would not be broken. She rarely says she promises anything for she knows that promises are broken. However, this one isn't meant to be broken.
The Ultimate Lurker - October 7, 2005 02:55 PM (GMT)
"That's good." Well, of course it is. He seemed to relax just a little, but not very much. It's also good that she doesn't plan to break her promise. Emrys scarcly leaves the school grounds as it is. He'd less likely leave if he were hurt yet again. He's already scared witless that he might not be attacked for once but instead, his only friend, and just a child, would be attacked. That just hurt his heart.
oneofmanysouls - October 7, 2005 03:01 PM (GMT)
She could sense him relaxing a little. But not much. Of course she doesn't plan to break her promise. She may be a vampire but she doesn't kill just anyone. That would be Muirne. However, even Muirne doesn't kill those who she says she won't.
"Are you sure there isn't anything I can get you? Or do? Or something?" she asks again. Yes. She's obviously worried about the blind man still. And feeling a little on the guilty side. Guilty because of what she is.
The Ultimate Lurker - October 7, 2005 03:07 PM (GMT)
Would Murine kill a blind man? Would Murine kill someone helpless (not that Emrys is very helpless)? Would Murine kill someone who had such a bad life but didn't want to die?
Emrys nodded. "I...I don't feel like moving yet," he comented. "But when I....my...vision came I...can't remember which way was to the college." He'd been walking a direction, but unfortunatly...does Enyo realize that he'd been walking in the wrong direction when he thought he'd been right?
