Title: Freezedried
Description: -Tie-

The dour-looking former doctor was making his way home from the post office. Most surgical instruments could only be gotten by mail order, after all. Douglas never heard of, or simply didn't care about, the miracle that is online shopping.
He hurried along, frowning slightly. He hadn't had much work to do, lately. The 'Capture Death' project was at a standstill, and new information was becoming harder to come by. He hadn't found any new specimens to occupy himself with. He hadn't found anything new since the faery boy, and almost wished he'd kept him to toy with a little longer.

"Hey, Dr...."
Now, what was his name again? He'd done some incredibly funny things with a heart. He was amazing. What was his...
"Doctor...Doctor Whatsyourname!"
She pounded up behind him, her blue pigtails swinging exuberantly.
"What's in the box?"
Danie - September 20, 2005 11:42 PM (GMT)
Who...?
He turned to look at her, but didn't slow down. It was that violent girl, the one who had attempted to run him over. The one who wasn't as anoying as most people were.
"Hello," he said evenly. He nodded to the parcel. "A new set of scalpels, among other things. My old set has gotten rather worn."
Cagey Tiger - September 20, 2005 11:50 PM (GMT)
She caught up, trotting so as not to get left behind.
"Ooh." she grinned broadly. Fresh scalpels. Sharp. Fun.
"Can I see?"
Danie - September 20, 2005 11:55 PM (GMT)
"I suppose," he replied, then hastily added, "Once we're inside. I have other new acquisitions that you might find interesting. New additions to my collection."
And, up the walkway, into the house, down to the basement.
He set the box on a counter and slit the packing tape off it, and began inspecting the contents. Everything seemed to be in order.
Cagey Tiger - September 21, 2005 12:08 AM (GMT)
"Cool."
Yep. Douglas is definitely a cool guy to know. He has all sorts of interesting things in his freezer. She hopes he'll do that thing again, like he did with the heart. Making it twitch. That was neat.
She peered at the scalpels for a moment, itching to pick one up and try it on...something. But she was rattling her fingernails against the cardboard, impatient for more interesting things.
Danie - September 21, 2005 12:15 AM (GMT)
Douglas is feeling nice today. Maybe he'll let her cut up one of his non-rare specimens with one of the new instruments.
"Come this way. I've other thing you can look at," he beckoned to her, leading the way to the freezer. On a shelf behind it is a jar with a few feathers in it - Bo's feathers, to be exact. He took that down first. "To begin with - these belonged to a half-demon, half-angel. Kept for interest. I also kept several tissue and blood samples."
Cagey Tiger - September 21, 2005 11:03 AM (GMT)
"I thought those were just the product of melodramatic stories. Didn't know they really existed."
She tore herself away from the scalpels (shiny!), peering into the jar.
"Cool. Wonder if it can fly."
Danie - September 21, 2005 11:07 AM (GMT)
"It couldn't after I was done with it." He smirked at the memory.
He opened the freezer, and drew out the antenna. It occurred to him that she might be bothered that he was showing her a piece of a faery - the same as showing a piece of a human to a human - but she hadn't minded so far. Not that he'd be bothered if she did.
"This one belonged to a faery," he held up the antenna. "About your age, I believe."
Cagey Tiger - September 21, 2005 07:11 PM (GMT)
She took it from him and examined it thoughtfully. Her expression didn't change, and she slowly put it back in his hand, curled his fingers around it, and patted them, with a smile that meant nothing good.
"Hey, I had a really cool idea. Why don't you...take this...into the back of your little freezer thing...and fuck yourself up the ass with it."
Smile, smile, smile.
Vulgar little girl, isn't she?
Danie - September 21, 2005 08:08 PM (GMT)
Blink. Now where did that come from?
He put the antenna back, and raised an eyebrow at her.
"If it's all the same to you, I won't." he said. "Is something the matter?"
If it really does bother her, he'd like to know - Douglas loves to know how to get at people.
Cagey Tiger - September 21, 2005 08:11 PM (GMT)
"Um, yeah." she tilted her head still smiling. "Mainly that I told you not to fuck with my brother."
Oddly enough, that was the main problem: that he'd done it when she told him not to, rather than the actual harm done to Mortimer.
"And don't give me any you didn't know bullshit, he looks just like me."
Danie - September 21, 2005 08:18 PM (GMT)
"Really. I didn't notice." Nor did he care.
Douglas smirked.
"In order to look just like you, he would have to be female.. hm.. well, he certainly cries like a girl, but I think that is as far as the resemblance goes, gender-wise."
Cagey Tiger - September 21, 2005 08:22 PM (GMT)
She began to roll her eyes. "Ugh, I know--"
Then she glared at him, as if he'd tricked her.
"I'm going to make your life a living hell."
Danie - September 21, 2005 08:29 PM (GMT)
"You're welcome to try," he said complacently, stepping back and opening his arms wide as if to say 'give it your best shot'. He also put up a shield around himself.
This should be good.
Cagey Tiger - September 22, 2005 10:58 AM (GMT)
She eyed him, tilting her head, annoyed.
"It's not a fair fight if you're sheilding. It's also not fair to pick on somebody's baby brother and then make sure they can't hurt you at all. You cheat."
With a faint, exhasperated sigh, she skipped sideways (she was not gonna turn her back on him) and dipped her hand rather elegantly into the box of scalpels. She examined the one she was holding, shaping her magic (she doesn't use much of it often; she saves it for occaisions like this) into an invisible...glove sort of thing, that fit perfectly over the scalpel. It was sharp, too, but where a scalpel is sharp to cut skin, the magic was sharp to cut other magic.
Then she lunged.
Danie - September 22, 2005 09:40 PM (GMT)
And this is why he likes to keep fit.
He backed away from her, hissing the first spell that came to mind - an immobilizing spell, it turned out. "Who says it has to be fair?" he smirked, circling her, eyeing her like some predatory animal and its prey.
Cagey Tiger - September 23, 2005 10:41 AM (GMT)
She was frozen for a moment. It took an upsetting amount of power to cut through the mobilization spell; if he did that again, she wouldn't be able to cut through his sheilds anymore. Getting the nagging feeling that she was on the losing end of this one, she lunged again, then ducked at the last minute, going for his knees with the scalpel.
Danie - September 23, 2005 06:26 PM (GMT)
Slash.
"Brat," he said, sounding, oddly enough, faintly pleased. He didn't try and still her this time. Instead, - well, to Cass, it ought to feel like being picked up and thrown by an enormous hand.
Cagey Tiger - September 24, 2005 01:13 PM (GMT)
She didn't waste her power on the 'hand'; instead, she twisted in the air, trying to avoid landing damagingly. She sort of succeeded--there were crashing sounds, and she looked pained, but she was still able to get up and rush him again.
"Dick." she replied while running. She sounded rather gleeful.
This time, she intended to push off his shoulder and actually jump over him. Wonder if she'd get that far.
Danie - September 24, 2005 03:11 PM (GMT)
Unless she escapes the binding spell he throws at her, no.
"Hellion."
Why yes, he is enjoying this. He'll enjoy it even more when he has her trapped.
He probably won't hurt her too badly.
Cagey Tiger - September 24, 2005 04:21 PM (GMT)
Want to hear something a little creepy?
She'll probably enjoy it when he has her trapped, too. At least for a little while (she's not keen on actually getting hurt, but the risk and the fear add substantially to the excitement.)
And this time the spell caught her squarely in the face.
Danie - September 24, 2005 04:39 PM (GMT)
"Got you."
He smirked.
"You're a slippery one." That's a compliment, by the way.
Then he set about his fun - mainly just cutting her for the sight of blood. There were a lot of cuts by the time he was done, but the were mostly shallow. He wasn't out to kill her. That would spoil it.
When he'd finished, he let her drop. He's not going to let her leave yet, but he's done playing, anyway.
Cagey Tiger - September 24, 2005 04:52 PM (GMT)
She scrambled herself into a sitting position, folded her arms, and glared at him for all she was worth. Being helpless like that had been exciting for about two seconds, and then it just got humiliating.
"Asshole."
Danie - September 24, 2005 05:03 PM (GMT)
"Hm." He leaned ever-so-slightly over her. "So I've been told. But I can't have you retain that impression of me..."
He muttered a spell to modify her memory, and informed her, "You won't remember any of this. You did not see me today, you did not accompany me to my home, and there was no fight. Now be on your way."
Cagey Tiger - September 24, 2005 05:20 PM (GMT)
Blank-eyed, she got to her feet, turned and walked out.
Once she was well out of the area, she blinked. Goodness, she must've spaced out and forgotten where she was going! And she was all covered with...blood?
Gross.
She ran home to take a shower.
