Gregory lay in a hospital bed a week after the chaotic day of Alyssa and Mac’s fight and Blade taking off. Of course Greg didn’t know anything about this episode. All he knew was that the small demonic child, at least in his opinion, tied him up to the bed post, sliced his chest and then took off. He had been in shock, not even thinking of calling for help. At least the hole in the front of his house and the door off it’s hinges signaled to a neighbor to call the police.

The police arrived they looked throughout the house and finally found the big man in the back bedroom. Seeing his arm broken and definitely not in place as well as his ankle, they called the ambulance and it was there within ten minutes. Paramedics tended to his slashed chest, put him on the stretcher, into the ambulance and finally to the hospital where they operated on him immediately to set his limbs in place once more and stitch up his chest.

The time after he had awaken from surgery and sat in the hospital room was not something that he liked at all. White rooms with only a bed and a ton of equipment on each side of his bed was not where he was supposed to be. He was supposed to be the one checking on people in the beds.

Though he didn’t like the situation he was still quite shaken up from not remembering anything since that day in the park watching Alyssa swing. That’s what he told the police and for some reason they weren’t buying his story which was the truth. He’d given the date in which he last remembered instead of the actual date. To the two police officers, Greg looked like he was trying to cover up something horrible that took place at the house. After all it had a hole in it that now needed to be fixed. Domestic violence was the first assumption to the officers. It appeared that three individuals, two of them children, were living in the house yet nowhere to be found. Greg argued with them for quite some time before the nurses finally said he needed to get some rest and that the officers could come back tomorrow.

When they left he became rather quiet rather than ranting at the nurses. He might have normally been pissed with everyone with poor treatment and the officers harassing him when he was the victim, but not today. Greg needed to figure out what the hell happened and why he couldn’t remember most of the past month. And so he sat propped up in his bed with hospital food on a tray in front of him.

There was a very handsome young man in the hospital, unfortunately dressed all in black. Tradgedy befell him the last time he set foot in the building. His girlfriend was taken from him and her family. The boy was clearly devastated. The family was devistated, too, but the boy took the brunt of it. He was making love to her when she collapsed.

Of course, that's only the story the nurses were whispering. It's nowhere near the truth.

Well, the handsome part was. The dying part was, too. What he was doing to her, though, was anything but love.

Matthew's brown hair was smooth on his head, his blue eyes downcast in 'sadness' while he walked to the nurse's station. He was in a black, long sleeved shirt and a pair of black dress slacks.

"Excuse me, could you tell me where Dr. Benedict is?"

'Poor dear,' the nurses said later. 'He wants to see the doctor who tried to save her.'

When he stepped into the room they directed him to, Matthew was genuinely shocked. What was he doing all broken like that?

Greg could hear the nurses talking outside at the station. Did they ever do anything around here? All it seemed like they did was talk, talk, talk about anything and everything. More than 99.9% of the time he didn’t care what it was they were talking about. Even when it was about a patient. Oh shit. What was he going to do now that Alyssa had disappeared? It had been so long since he’d actually used his knowledge of being a doctor that it was going to be a pain to try and do it all again without her help. No that wasn’t going to do, even if she landed him in the hospital. He made a mental note to look for her as soon as he got out of this bed.

Thought process was interrupted when a figure stood in the doorway. The young man looked rather shocked to see him, but an even more shocked looked was sent back to him. Who was this boy? Coming in here like they knew each other or gawking. It had to be one of the two. Perhaps he ‘healed’ him at some point? But surely he’d remember that wouldn’t he? Looking at the attire of which the kid wore caused the him to assume that there was not much wealth in the family so surely he wasn’t a patient of his past or present. But then again he couldn’t remember anything for some time so perhaps he very well could be.

”Who the hell are you and why are you in my room?” Ah. His social skills never were the best, even if he was bed ridden for the time being.

Matthew shut the door behind him. No one need be witness of this conversation. Once the door pulled and clicked closed, the demeanor of the boy underwent a change. He wasn't slouching and unhappy, though still a nice boy--he walked upright with a confident air and an angry face that was cute before it became just the two of them.

"Don't play any 'mind games' with me, Dr. Greg," he said, patronizingly, "what do you want me to do for you today? Wipe your ass? Give you a sponge bath? Kill someone?"

You see, Matthew still had no earthly idea what he was supposed to do. What did he want from him? The last thing was a stab in the dark. Maybe suggesting what might seem as outlandish things would cause the prone doctor to let leak his wishes.

His confusion only grew more as the kid shut the door behind him and his demeanor under went a drastic change. Now lets all remember folks that Greg doesn’t know anything about the magical world except Alyssa. He thinks she’s one of a kind so needless to say he would not understand what this kid was or what he was talking about due to being blacked out for most of the past month.

Mind games? Everything this kid spoke about was completely throwing the ‘good’ doctor for a loop. Kill someone? He never killed anybody or asked anybody to kill somebody. This was all just too weird. Exactly what had gone on in the time he couldn’t remember?

”I don’t know what the hell you are talking about. I can’t even remember what has gone on in the past several weeks of my life so if something happened during that time where I seemed to have run into you I really don’t know. Please leave before I have someone escort you out.” And that was the nicest way he was going to put it even though his voice was still harsh. It sounded completely different than the way Mac had used his voice and body.

"Amnesia?" his personality changed again. He wasn't the good boy, but he was no longer mean, spiteful and rude. Perhaps it was more of a down-to-earth boy who ran on both sides of the track, but still close enough to cross if he had to in a split second.

"I'm sorry to hear that, Doc, you must've taken quite a blow to the head."

His good arm reached up to rub the back of his head. ”Not sure what happened. I don’t really care to know either. Just need to get out of this wretched bed and go find my girl.” Anybody who knew the old Gregory would know that wasn’t an unusual statement for him to make. Even after she scared the shit out of him and broke his arm and ankle, he still wanted to get her back for he knew that without her he wasn’t going to be able to make as much money. The damage to the house was definitely going to require a lot of money to repair it. Damnit. And he had just bought it to. Girl was going to pay for that.

”Who are you anyways and how do I know you?” That information was still eating away at his brain. Why was he talking to him?

Renata - September 3, 2005 02:25 AM (GMT)
"Maybe that's why you couldn't save my girfriend's life," oh yeah, lay it on. Just because he didn't remember what Matthew was or even what happened to Blade didn't mean that Matthew was going to let the whole 'slave' thing slide.

"She collapsed suddenly and we, her parents and I, were so relieved when we heard you'd be treating her. You had a lot of miracle cases, maybe you could save her," of course, he'd only learned of those after the incident. "She died within minutes. You didn't even try," now his voice was harsh and accusing. He sounded for all the world like he blamed Dr. Benedict for her death. Aaah, such sweet, sweet revenge.

foreverchanging - September 4, 2005 02:52 AM (GMT)
”Wait. What?” Like he needed one more thing in his life to throw him upside down. Not only was he physically hurt, but now this person he didn’t even know was verbally abusing him. Talk about hitting a guy while he’s down. Of course he’d done it to so many of his patients, but that was different. It didn’t include him being the one getting hurt.

Miracle cases. That was a laugh. Of course he wasn’t going to have those anymore if he didn’t find his little brat soon. If she was here right now he’d already be mended and out of this bed. But she’d taken off and he had no idea even where to begin searching.

Back to the subject at hand though. This kid before him who seemed to be getting increasingly more agitated the further he spoke.

”As I stated before…” He said as calmly as possible, though had a hint of anger in his own voice. ”…I don’t recall anything of this scenario you are presenting me with. I’m sorry for your loss.” Yeah right. Him being sorry for anyone? Sure he had cared about his parents at one point, but other than that nobody else. The only reason he cared about Alyssa was because she was making him all the money.

”Now if you would be so kind as to leave I will not call for security to escort you out of here.”

Renata - September 4, 2005 05:55 PM (GMT)
That was a highly difficult decision. Matthew was keen to stay and pester the doctor to death..ok maybe not death. Well...considering that it's Matt I wouldn't say that death is below him. But having security called would put a black mark on his untarnished record and the incubus definately didn't want that.

Matt kicked the bastard's bed out of spite, an angry scowl on his face. When he turned, his expression was full of good intentions and he pulled open the door. No one witnessed the exchange and Matthew left without another word.

The man actually flinched as the boy kicked his bed. Still just a bit jittery after what happened at the house. Even though he knew, well he thought he knew anyways, that this boy couldn’t hurt him, that didn’t mean he still wasn’t a little bit edgy from the previous days.

Watching the boy leave, it made him laugh to see how quickly the boy changed demeanors to impress people he didn’t care about. Reminded him vaguely of himself actually and how he acted around patients. Sure he looked concerned, but only to get their money.

When the kid finally left he went back to figuring out how quickly he could out of this bed.
