No, he isn't here because he wants to be. He isn't even here because the doctor told him to come back.

Matthew screwed up. Big time. With literal screwing, as it so happens. Bad days plus greedy incubi plus clueless girlfriends equalled into a dangerously unconcious girlfriend. And as luck would have it, her parents chose that moment to come home. Joy. We really must commend Matthew's acting skills. One moment he was cursing out the wazoo and the next he was near to tears and in a panic trying to explain to Mr. and Mrs. So-and-So what happend. They were 'making love' when she all of a sudden 'passed out' and he had no idea what to do or what happened. They accepted this because, like everyone else, they were convinced that the two were in love and convinced that Matthew was a good, sincere boy who would never intentionally hurt anyone.

Matthew is now sitting in the ER waiting area with his head in his hands, wondering how he could get so carried away. He's wearing a pair of baggy jeans--no underwear or shoes, given the haste of the situation--and a plain green t-shirt that got thrown on at random. It might not have even been his. His brown hair's not spiked, his eyes are sad and red rimmed, all part of the act. The girl's mother even has a comforting hand on his shoulder while the father is nervously awaiting news on her condition.

A sudden thought strikes him and he remembers the doctor. He still doesn't know his name, but hopes to Fortuna that he's not on call.

But Fortune doesn't favor Matt today, for indeed Dr. Benedict is on call.

Greg hurriedly enters the ER and a physicians's assistant walks over to brief him as he pulls on a labcoat. He does notice Matt, but for the moment he has a role to play, the role of Physician.....but only long enough to swallow the soul of a dying girl, and if she wasn't dying, she would be now.

No. Nononononononofuck! He's here! And he's talking to her doctor! Oh shit, oh damn, fuck crap son of a bitch!

My, my, Matthew has quite the potty mouth. Yes, he's caught sight of the good doctor and knows that things are far from good. His only hope now (though not to Fortuna, she obviously has no interest in this) is that Dr. Benedict will focus on his job as a doctor rather than his grudge against the boy.

If only he knew the boy had stake in this. He doesn't. He makes his way into the room and to the girl's bedside. Her distraught parents have been told about some of the miracles Doctor Benedict has achieved. He goes into action. He looks the part of the skilled physician desperately racing to save his patient. There is a flurry of activity and the barking of brisk commands to the nurses and the P.A......but in the end the slow blipping monitor tracking the girls vitals flatlines.

Doctor Benedict bows his head, he seemed sincerely reverent and remorseful. He states teh time of death to the nurse to record. "I'm so sorry for your loss." he says to the parents, he really seems like he means it, but he doesn't. He doesn't regret what he's done at all.

Cue the tears. Or at least, the not-being-able-to-cope-with-her-death-panic and the clinging-to-her-mother. It's alright, her mother's clinging to him, too and the father's trying to be strong.

The 'Good Doctor" watches the tear jerking little scene. He still looks sufficiently distraught. Really he's only hanging around waiting for a moment alone with Matt. He's already figured out what happened to the girl. He won't tell, her parents wouldn't believe him anyway.

He makes his way to the main desk and begins to look busy filling out paperwork.

The mother wants to go see her. The father tries to talk her out of it, but eventually caves in. Matthew excuses himself to the bathroom, taking heaving breaths and trying to stop the tears.

In the bathroom, he checks to make sure that no one's there. After making completely sure, the tears automatically dries up and he hits a fist into a mirror. Very angry with himself, indeed. So many things that this complicates. He has to go to a counselor to keep up the pretense that he's deeply disturbed, his parents have to be told. He'll have to miss tomorrow at school, go to the funeral, probably say a few things and get comforted by smelly relatives. Her parents might ask him if there's anything he remembers that can help them figure out why she died--there's no way an autopsy is going to call this one.

He's glaring at the floor, his fist still sideways into the broken mirror.

Greg took a chart from the desk and went to go look in on a group of interns. Something was nagging at him though.

He dropped the clipboard he was holding suddenly. He walks out the nearest exit in a seeming daze.

After he's had time to properly school his face once more, Matthew walks out and rejoins the parents. There are more tears, more hugs, more apologies and fake guilt trips. "It's all my fault" yada yada. He's beyond glad that the doctor's disappeared. After the hospital, he goes home. First to fill his father in because he'd understand, then to explain to his mother with more fake tears. Poor Matthew.
