Title: Lying awake
Description: Open if you can fit in...

Arcane Blood - August 24, 2005 03:14 PM (GMT)
Stray beams of light graced their way through the window in the white room, the eyes of one of the patients for the minute open. How long had he been stuck here now? Five days? He'd forgotten or had long since forgotten. It seemed like forever since he'd talked to Mat and even longer since he had first arrived here. It was hell. He was still in pain and lately an empty sinking feeling had been setting on him. No visitors. He was still pondering if he had been missed.

He let his green eyes close in sadness. There was no laughter here, only white walls and his own insanity. No, not an insane asylum, a hospital. He was trapped here, kept alive by those bastards. He'd rather have died.

He took a shuddery breath and let his fingers tangle in the white sheets of his bed, listening in despair to the constant beeping of the moniters in here.

If this wasn't hell, he didn't know what was.

(I ish joining if that's okay with ya.)

Out of total boredom, the woman had volunteered her free time at the hospital. Hey, it was something to do to pass the time. It kept her from thinking about the terrible thing that happened to her. How long had it been? She really didn’t want to think about it at this time. It hadn’t been a good thing so why bother dwelling on it? What’s done is done and can not be undone.

Her long blonde hair is pulled back in a pony tail and she’s wearing the usual hospital ‘candy striper’ uniform, pink with white stripes on it. Her 5'7" frame stands over the vast majority of the other women in the hospital. Doesn’t matter though. She never lets her height get to her.

She gets to the hospital and starts to make rounds around the place. Checking on patients here and there. Stopping to chit chat and make someone smile. She likes her ‘job’ here. She likes making others smile.

“Good morning,” comes the cheerful voice belonging to none other than Ylva. “Is there anything I can get for you Mr....”

Arcane Blood - August 24, 2005 04:32 PM (GMT)
He opened his eyes only slightly, just so he could see who was adressing him (or at least who he thought was adressing him). "Gu..ten Morgen." came the reply, soft yet raspy. Was he supposed to say good morning back? He couldn't remember.

"No... And it's Lucifer... just Lucifer." None of that 'Mr.' crap. It made him feel old.

oneofmanysouls - August 24, 2005 04:35 PM (GMT)
She lifted her head from what she was doing as she recognized that voice, raspy as it may be.

"Lucifer?!" she exclaimed and headed over to the side of the bed. "What are you doing in here? Are you okay?" Yes. She remembers him. He was the first person she met when she first crept into this city.

"Do you remember me?"

Arcane Blood - August 24, 2005 04:53 PM (GMT)
It took him a moment to realize he knew the person who was speaking to him. She sounded concerned. Who was she...?

"W-what? Ylva?" He opened his eyes some more. Still green as ever.

"Hey.. I... was.. attacked."

He tried to smile.

"I... 'aven..'t seen you in... forever."

oneofmanysouls - August 24, 2005 04:59 PM (GMT)
She nodded her head and smiled at the man lying in the bed. "Yes. It's me," she answered.

"Attacked? Oh no. How'd it happen?" She was concerned. Quite a bit.

"I've not seen you forever either. I'm sorry I hadn't come around to see you. So much as been going on."

Arcane Blood - August 24, 2005 05:14 PM (GMT)
"A b-bar. I wish.. I'd been.. more careful." He let his eyes close again, taking in another breath. "'f I was... wouldn't... be in damned.. ICU, y'know."

He shook his head. "Don't apologize." that much was clear.

He wished she would have come visited earlier, though. Before the hospital, before his suicidal tendencies...

oneofmanysouls - August 24, 2005 05:18 PM (GMT)
She frowned. Bars were never good places to be hanging out. She avoided them like the plague. Far too many weirdo's and bad people hung out at bars. "Shh..." she told him softly. "You'll be okay again before you know it."

She shifted her position so that she could sit on the edge of his bed. She took one of his hands in hers. It would have been good if she had gotten in contact with him sooner. Visited him earlier. Before the hospital. Before the bad things happened. Both to him and to her. But she's here now.

"Is there anything I can do to make you more comfortable?"

Arcane Blood - August 24, 2005 05:30 PM (GMT)
Normally Lucifer avoided bars like that, but he'd wanted alcohol, and it had been his birthday... He gave a gentle but pained sigh.

"Mm.." he looked down at his hand though his smile faltered. "Thanks.."

He frowned slightly, his fingertips barely moving. His hands were practically the only part of his body that didn't have pieces cut out of them. He'd been good looking before Kastler and Glory had their way with him.

"mm..bring me home, maybe?"

oneofmanysouls - August 24, 2005 05:35 PM (GMT)
Her smile faltered slightly. “I would if I could,” she said softly. “Unfortunately, I think the hospital staff would jump on me like flies on poop.”

Arcane Blood - August 24, 2005 06:04 PM (GMT)
"Probably." He admitted sadly. His fingertips twitched a little.

"...s..o, how..'ve you been?"

oneofmanysouls - August 24, 2005 06:06 PM (GMT)
She shrugged slightly and offered a sad smile. “I’ve been alright I suppose.” She supposed? Well, yeah. She didn’t want to trouble him with her problems though. Not when he was in such bad shape himself. Her problems almost seemed to be minimal compared to his. “Just volunteered here at the hospital to pass the time. I seem to have so much of it.”

Arcane Blood - August 24, 2005 08:58 PM (GMT)
"You.. suppose?" he coughed and the vague smile returned to his lips. "Well,... hey. 'le..least you're only... volunteering here and... not lying.. in one of these beds." Oh, weak humor. Or at least an attempt at a very weak joke.

"Why do you have so much spare time?" He repositioned himself only slightly on the hospital bed, looking into her eyes.

oneofmanysouls - August 24, 2005 09:03 PM (GMT)
She nodded her head slightly. Yeah. She supposed. Oh bad joke. She chuckled softly anyway.

"I quit my job." No sense lying about it. "I... I couldn't go back."

Arcane Blood - August 24, 2005 10:21 PM (GMT)
"W..hy? Why'd you quit?" He inquired, his other hand still tangled in the sheets. He was looking for a distraction from this awful hospital.

oneofmanysouls - August 24, 2005 10:25 PM (GMT)
She frowned. She really didn't want to bother him with her problems. But she couldn't not answer his questions.

She sighed softly and looked down at his hand she was still holding. "I didn't feel safe there anymore," she finally admitted.

Arcane Blood - August 24, 2005 10:41 PM (GMT)
"I don'.. mean to be nosy.. 'n stuff,... but.. why?" He didn't mind her 'bothering him with her problems'. Her explenations and chat would keep him awake and keep him distracted. He didn't want to be alone. He didn't want to have to be so empty. He needed company. His eyes held all of the loneliness he'd felt.

oneofmanysouls - August 24, 2005 10:44 PM (GMT)
She sighed. "My problems are so insignificant next to yours Lucifer. I don't want to bother you with mine." But something in his eyes told her to keep going.

She glanced towards the door and watched a nurse come and go. She turned her attention back towards Lucifer before dropping her gaze to his hand she was holding once more. "I... I was attacked on my way home from work one night."

Arcane Blood - August 24, 2005 10:50 PM (GMT)
"You're not bothering me," he reassured her quietly, his gaze still unwavering and staring into her eyes. "p...problems.. however big.. 'r small they are.. deserved to be... mm, addressed."

He frowned once she explained though. He sort of tightened his grip on the hand she was holding. It sort of hurt to do so but he felt it was neccesary.

"I..I'm sorry." His eyes flashed sympathy. His eyes were ones that held real sympathy. "I..kn..ow how much it hurts,.. Ylva. I know..." His tired voice had been reduced to a quiet tone, loud enough for only Ylva to hear. She was a werewolf anyway.

"Can..'t.. can't you get 'nother... job?"

oneofmanysouls - August 24, 2005 10:57 PM (GMT)
She watched him squeeze her hand slightly and lifted her eyes to look at him. Yeah it hurts. The bastard had raped her in the progress. She left out that detail though. That wasn't something that she was quite comfortable talking about yet.

"Pierce has been taking care of me. I live with him and his son now," she told him. "I wanted to do something with my spare time so I came and volunteered here. I actually feel safer here. I don't know why. Maybe because it's harder for someone to sneak up on another in this place."

Arcane Blood - August 24, 2005 11:16 PM (GMT)
"Pierce?" He didn't know Pierce. In fact he didn't know much about Ylva in general... the last time he'd seen her was when he'd been in the hospital in fact. "You're all right with him? He's... good... t'you?"

He let a soft sigh escape his lips. "I see... 'n you're all right here... too? The blank white walls don't drive you insane?" He wanted to smile but his lips only turned up ever so slightly in the corners.

oneofmanysouls - August 24, 2005 11:21 PM (GMT)
A soft smile returned to her face as she thought about Pierce. "Yeah. He's really good to me," she answered. "I had been stupid and left one day without even so much as a note left on the table. Moved into a place of my own and got the job working late hours. It was during that time I had been attacked."

She fell silent for a moment and glanced towards the door. She got up and went over to it to close it. Back over to the bed she went and sat back down, taking Lucifer's hand in hers again. "Pierce found me after some time had passed after the attack. It... it hadn't been a pleasant finding. The... 'It' had managed to force its way out. 'It' hunted down the one who hurt me. Pierce had found me while 'it' was out and torturing the man."

She shook her head slightly. "No. The blank white walls don't drive me insane. They actually help to keep me sane if you can believe that."

Arcane Blood - August 24, 2005 11:32 PM (GMT)
Lucifer blinked, listening to her as best as he could. He really was trying to listen to her but he wasn't used to so much talking. But he wanted to stay awake and listen... to talk to her. He didn't want to go to sleep and wake up to find he was alone all over again. He hated the feeling of being alone.

"I.. see... what is... it?" Lucifer would've had a vague idea had he actually been alert and able to think clearly. Everything was still in a haze.

"I don't... know 'f I can understand... so 'scuse me.. if I say no."

oneofmanysouls - August 24, 2005 11:40 PM (GMT)
She glanced towards the door again before looking back to Lucifer. She couldn't remember if she had ever told him what she is or not. Why couldn't she remember? Ah damn it.

"I... um..." she stuttered. "Please... don't hate me..." she pleaded before she could continue. "'It' is the animal that lives within me. I... I'm a... a... werewolf." Her voice was quite hushed as she spoke. Loud enough for him to hear her but not loud enough for anyone outside the closed door to hear.

Arcane Blood - August 24, 2005 11:58 PM (GMT)
"I'd never hate you." He said, his voice something of a reassuring whisper now. Lucifer had a hard time hating anybody who didn't deserve to be hated. Kastler deserved to be hated, Ylva did not.

"I'm sorry... that this troubles you... 'm sorry... and I.. know there's.. nothing I can say that...t-that'll make it any... better."

oneofmanysouls - August 24, 2005 11:59 PM (GMT)
"Shh..." she told him softly. "You just concentrate on getting better, alright? I still owe you a ride at the amusement park." Who'd have thought that after a year had already passed that she would actually remember that?

Arcane Blood - August 25, 2005 12:08 AM (GMT)
"You... still.. remember that?" He asked her softly, his eyes fluttering closed again. He was half-awake, still listening to see if she'd respond.

oneofmanysouls - August 25, 2005 12:10 AM (GMT)
"Of course I do," she told him softly. "Now you get some rest. I promise I'll come visit you again now that I know where you are." She got up off the edge of his bed and moved towards the top of it. She leaned down and kissed his forehead softly. "We really do need to hang out more and catch up on the past year my friend."
