Title: Abused For Being Strange
Description: F'r Kae and Tie ;3

Kaylee - August 17, 2005 05:02 AM (GMT)
It was a pleasant sort of day, getting near sunset, pink and purple clouds in the sky and a slight wind blowing. There weren't many people in this area, near Elm Street about ten minutes from the park entrance. The street lamps were lit, yellow light barely making a difference.

Below one of the lampposts, a few feet away from a bench, is Edward. Just sitting there, looking around at people, cars, and possible Masters. His fur was nice and neat, rippling only so slightly in the wind and gold tag tingling. He wasn't human, he had no clothes to describe, the only thing he wore was a gold buckled red collar with a tag that said Edward on it.

The construct was in neutral sort of mood he was usually in, calm and rather bored. There wasn't a lot to do. He'd been cooed over, kicked at, as well as numerous other things. Humans weren't very nice...then again, not all who he had ran into were human. Didn't matter to him, as long as he could feed off of them.

His lightning blue eyes continued looking up and down the street. Hm. It was really nice...quiet and peaceful. He smiled, ya...this was really nice.

Can you imagine a dog smiling?

K-Squared - August 17, 2005 05:13 AM (GMT)
Jayme had once more been chased from his shop. His own employees running him out. Really he didn't mind, it sometimes made him crazy to be cooped up in there. He has gone for a walk. He has no where to go and nothing to do until 9:30 am the next morning.

There is a good side to that, he can come and go as he pleases, but there is a down side too, there is no one who really gives a farthing what Jayme does. He's walking at a leisurely pace, taking in what's going on around him. Today he wears a pair of pressed Khaki trousers and a light blue buton down. No name tag at the moment, no necktie, though he is wearing a pair of well worn looking loafers. It is not so bright that the light glints off his bald head.

He notices the dog sitting by the bench. It isn't a dog he's seen in the park before. He doesn't see anyone paying it much mind at the moment. Heavens, I hope no one just dumped it out here in the park. he thought.

He walked over at an easy pace keeping his hands in plain view. He gave a light whistle. "Hey watcha doing?" he asked in a friendly voice. He didn't want to say something stupid like here boy, and then learn it was a girl dog.

Cagey Tiger - August 17, 2005 12:43 PM (GMT)
Keye would not normally have approached the strange, bald man...but he had a dog with him (he mistakenly believed Edward to be Jayme's dog), and someone who had a dog couldn't be all that bad. Plus, it was a cute dog...German Sheperds were so handsome and dignified.
So he did approach, buckles on his pants (that unlikely pale yellow) jingling, tugging and fidgeting with the sleeves of his long-sleeved shirt (too warm for the weather). But he addressed the dog, not Jayme.
"Hi, doggie! What's your name?"

Kaylee - August 17, 2005 01:45 PM (GMT)
What's this? Two persons?

Edward was jolted out of a daze he had been in and looked over the two curiously, handsome head raised up. Some might find it disturbing that a dog was looking back and forth between two guys, but some may think he's just a very smart animal. He's not an animal, but he is smart.

Oh goodie, some people to keep him complany. He even wagged his tail, lifting his black nose to sniff at them. Oh nice energy. He didn't feed off them now, but was reading off their energy to know what they are. Both no doubt used magic and it was almost dissapointing that they weren't strong enough. But they also were a bit too young.

He didn't say anything at the moment, usually he would have just come out and said 'I'm Edward, what's your name?' but sometimes that frightens even the Innish people. He deliberately stretched his neck, gold tag jingling as it hit the buckle.

C'mon, there's where my name is. Now give me a scratching.

K-Squared - August 17, 2005 01:54 PM (GMT)
Jayme gave the dog's ears a gentle rub while the other approached. If this guy didn't know the dog's name he clearly wasn't the owner either. The dog seemed intelligent though, and very well behaved.

Still why would such an animal be out and about unattended? This wasn't the sort of pet one just got rid of. In fact something seemed very special about the dog. There was that alchemist's cosmic intuition at work, too bad the intuition doesn't prompt Jayme to consider this may not be an ordinary dog.

Cagey Tiger - August 17, 2005 02:35 PM (GMT)
"Edward." Keye stated, reading off the tag (and still completely ignoring Jayme). "That's a nice name." he scratched around the dog's collar, smiling. But something had changed about his manner...the look in his eyes (not that one could see it, covered as it was by his sunglasses) was calculating, searching...the dog was reminding him a bit of Darcy, and Darcy was not a normal dog (wolf, whatever).

Kaylee - August 17, 2005 02:54 PM (GMT)
Oh how nice, Edward stretched and rolled his neck a little as he was scratched.

This was very, very nice. The other two were looking at him, well, he couldn't really tell what the younger one was thinking cause he could't see his eyes. Not that he could read minds, but he could generally tell from the expression. He snuffled Keye's hand, giving it a lick before doing the same to Jayme's hand. His tail was wagging.

These two are catching onto him. He's not a normal dog, but they wouldn't know what he is, would they? Edward was thinking himself, there is a possiblity but that's very slim itself. Hm. Interesting.

K-Squared - August 17, 2005 03:00 PM (GMT)
Even with knowing something is odd about the dog, and occaisionally reaching to pet him, Jayme does not completely catch on. It's his attention span, he's simply paying attention to everything, and nothing simultaneously.

He's watching, other people, traffic, the hotdog vendor breaking down his cart, the dog, and the newcomer. He pauses for a minute and forces himself to pay attetnion long enough to at least give the newcomer his name. He hasn't noticed that he's been ignored and the dog hasn't.

"Jayme." he says offering his right hand to shake.

Cagey Tiger - August 17, 2005 04:18 PM (GMT)
Keye jumped back, tripping himself into a sitting position, staring at Jayme's hand with a face full of distrust. He eyed it for a long moment, then grasped it quickly and let go.
"Keye."

Kaylee - August 17, 2005 09:09 PM (GMT)
"And I'm Edward."

Deep British voice, crisp and clear coming from...below and in front of them? He didn't bother to raise his paw for a handshake, they probably are to busy processing the fact that he just spoke. Normally, dogs don't speak. But this wasn't a dog so no problem there, yes?

He sniffed, looked back and forth between them with a raised eyebrow
.

"Now that we are on a first name basis, can we go back to scratching me ears?"

Always wanting attention. He is a male after all.

K-Squared - August 17, 2005 09:13 PM (GMT)
Jayme's eyes grew wide. Now he thinks to check the dog's nature. "Oh Sorry. " he tells Edward. He resumes the ear scratching. "I think I begin to see why you are in the park alone.....since you're not actually a dog." He says. He is also watching the very nervous young man who's hand he just shook.

Cagey Tiger - August 17, 2005 10:28 PM (GMT)
The very nervous young man got more nervous, quickly. He leapt to his feet, holding his hands in front of him as if to ward off a possible attack from Edward.
"D-d-don't hurt me!"

Kaylee - August 17, 2005 10:44 PM (GMT)
Snort.

Edward burst into laughter at the one boy, who was obviously very freaked out. He laughed so much if he were a human his age, he'd throw out his back. But he wasn't so he just stopped laughing, shook himself and cocked his head at Keye
.

"Keye, why would I hurt you? Sheesh man, you were one of the people who was willing to give me a scratch today. I like scratches. And really, I don't bite people unless they attack me. Are you going to attack me?"

Plain and and simple, just how Edward likes it.

K-Squared - August 17, 2005 10:48 PM (GMT)
Jayme didn't laugh, he did smile. "It is a bit unsettling if one isn't prepared you know. I don't suppose you'd be willing to enlighten me as to why a magic talking dog decides to go to the park?" Jayme asks. He is still watching both the dog and Keye.

Cagey Tiger - August 17, 2005 11:40 PM (GMT)
"N-no...I'm not." he edged forward again very slightly. "I...you won't hurt me? You promise?" he glanced skittishly at Jayme. "...yeah. What he said. Why're you here?" Now that he stopped to think, it wasn't so bad. Logan was worse. "What if someone who didn't know about magic heard you?"

Kaylee - August 17, 2005 11:50 PM (GMT)
He looked up to Keye.

"I promise I won't hurt you, seriously, just becuase I look like a dog doesn't mean I act like a rabid animal."

He looked back and forth between them, at least they were asking questions and not pretending he didn't exsist. He gave a shrug.

"One I'm not a magic dog, I am an intelligent magical construct shaped in the form of a dog. Two, I am out here becuase I can be, I'm also looking for possible Masters since my creator died a while ago. And three, I can tell the difference between people who know about magic and those who don't know."

Generally at least, the ones who do know have more active magical energy in them most of the time. He was nice enough to answer them in order too, ain't that spiffy.

K-Squared - August 17, 2005 11:52 PM (GMT)
"Interesting. You can detect magical signatures somehow I take it?" Jayme asked. He pulled a little not book out of his shirt pocket and jotted himself a few notes.

Cagey Tiger - August 18, 2005 02:09 AM (GMT)
"Oh." Unable to think of anything more constructive to say, he rocked forward onto his toes and scratched behind Edward's ears. "I've been meeting a lot more people who know about magic since I started living with my d--ah, person I live with."

Kaylee - August 18, 2005 04:49 AM (GMT)
"Mhm, yes, something similar to that."

Edwad tipped his head appreciatively as Keye scratched him, tail wagging once again. This was better than expected, no screaming, no denial, no weeting their pants. This is going great!

"Ah, have you now? You meet a lot of them here. Yes, this place is so full of magical energy if I wasn't able to control my intake, I'd probably explode."

Not the most pleasing of thoughts. Dying from over dosing energy. Ouch.

K-Squared - August 18, 2005 04:55 AM (GMT)
"You sound like my uncle, he thinks the energy in the city has to do with the way Leylines here converge." Jayme said to the dog as if it were quite normal to converse with a dog, even if it wasn't really a dog.

"Have you lived in the city long Edward?" Jayme asked.

Cagey Tiger - August 18, 2005 01:45 PM (GMT)
"Whats converge, now?" he glanced at Jayme, confused. "I do magic, and I never heard of those."

Kaylee - August 18, 2005 01:54 PM (GMT)
"Mmm, I see, that is certainly interesting. And converge; verb; -verged, -verg·ing, -verg·es. I belive the definition that Jayme is explaining is 'To tend toward or approach an intersecting point: lines that converge.' or 'To come together from different directions; meet: The avenues converge at a central square.'"

He blinked and looked up at Keye. See? Walking dictionary. He turned back to Jayme.

"As for your question, a few years."

It's weird, how he can come from being so precise to being laid back and simple. Well, he is Edward after all, not some human obeying robot. He lifted a foot up, stratching his collar area. Mm, nice.

K-Squared - August 18, 2005 02:04 PM (GMT)
"Ley lines are lines of magical energies, they are normally not naturally occuring, rather they build up with time and draw more energy to them. A good analogy is the way a path forms in the woods, the more a deer track gets used the easier it becomes to navigate, it eventually becomes a foot path, a dirt track, and eventually a dirt road.....Leylines of magic are similar the more magic that travels along one the bigger and easier to navigate it gets, it also tends to have more magical current." Jayme explained.

(OOC Note this is only one possible explantion for Ley lines, it's what Jayme was taught other schools of philosophy on this surely exist in the Once world)

Cagey Tiger - August 18, 2005 03:09 PM (GMT)
"I know what converge means." he stuck his tongue out at Edward. "I'm not that dumb, and I live with an English teacher 'sides. I mean the l...leylines. And now I know. Can you use them to do magic with, then? I know you can use somebody else for power...can you use the...the leylines? Or does it just make it so more magical stuff wants to come where they are?"

Kaylee - August 18, 2005 03:42 PM (GMT)
Edward chuckled, "Good thing for that."

His ears perked up at 'English teacher' comment. So he lives with a teacher? Interesting, but he didn't say anything about parents in there. A slight frown, isn't is frowned upon for students (he assumed Keye was a student) to be living with their teachers? He snuffed. Odd.

"You live with your teacher?"

Harmless question really, he was going to leave it to Jayme to answer the question since it seemed to be directed at him. Edward's explanation would probably be way to complex for the by to understand. So he just sat there, snuffing and looking back and forth between them.

K-Squared - August 18, 2005 03:57 PM (GMT)
"They atract magic, I have heard that they can be tapped into, but I have always been lead to believe such an undertaking would be tremendous. Liken it to trying to take the pulse of the cosmos." Jayme said. He was scratching Edwards ruff now absently. He found nothing odd about living with a teacher, his uncle had raised and eduacted him afterall. He did wonder if there was more to Edward's question though.

Cagey Tiger - August 25, 2005 01:28 PM (GMT)
((Do you know this sound? This is the sound of Tie forgetting about a thread because it's with people she's not used to playing with...it is the sound of shame. I am soooo sorry.))

"The pulse of the cosmos?"
He looked even more bewildered. He'd never heard of the cosmos having a pulse. He shook his head.
"A teacher. I'm not in his class because I live with him...and he kinda got me into the school anyway."

Kaylee - August 25, 2005 09:45 PM (GMT)
(( And this is the sound of Kay laughing becuase she thinks it's okay, at least Tie remembered! :pets Tie: ^^ ))

Edward was just looking back and forth at the two young men. The other's explanation was fairly accurate in the shorter way, but there was still much to explain. And of course Edward would not be the one to do it becuase he didn't want to waste his time.

A look to Keye and a nod.

"I see, well that certainly is nice of him." A pause then Edward scooched forward more to Keye. "Is he aware of magic? Does he know about your ability to do magic? Does he have the ability himself by chance?"

Yes, when he wants to know something, he lets it be known.

K-Squared - August 29, 2005 09:45 PM (GMT)
((Yes kids forgive me I have no good excuse, too many threads and a lack of attention to detail on my part, but I plead senility, cause I'm older))

So Edward was curious. Jayme lets his hand slide over him as he moved closer to Keye. He was petting Edward's back now.

"The pulse of the cosmos, my point was it's an elusive concept, leylines can be also, forgive any confusion, perhaps it was a bad analogy." Jayme says after a minute.

Cagey Tiger - August 31, 2005 08:01 PM (GMT)
"Sorry, I think I'm just bad at analogies." He edged away, because Edward was moving closer, and Jayme was following Edward, and Keye did not want Jayme to come closer.
"Yeah, he knows about magic. He's written some books."

Kaylee - September 4, 2005 12:24 PM (GMT)
"Ah! Books? What might his name be? I've probably read a few m'self..."

Yes, Edward can read. But this is good. If there was a powerful wizard here that he has heard of, then maybe he can approach him...yes yes, that sounds like a good idea. His tail was wagging once again. Mm, scratchings and valuable information, what a nice night.

K-Squared - September 4, 2005 01:06 PM (GMT)
Jayme gives Edward a logn thorough petting and then with apologies takes two steps back. He's noticed Keye keeps inching away. He feels it would be rude to say anything and so he simply apologizes when he stops petting the dog.

Cagey Tiger - September 4, 2005 01:40 PM (GMT)
Keye seemed to relax slightly when Jayme moved back.
"Dr. Barclay. I think I used one once, but mostly it's stuff too complicated for me."

Kaylee - September 5, 2005 12:20 PM (GMT)
Edward controlled himself from dropping his jaw. Alexander Barclay!? Now, Edward would not compare himself to some rabid fan, but, he would say he was a large fan of the man's books. Very, very good reading. To Edward at least. He gave a large smile, it was hard to show how actually delighted he was.

"Alexander Barclay? He happens to be a favorite of mine. He is here teaching at the...college, right?"

This was indeed, splendid news.

K-Squared - September 5, 2005 05:07 PM (GMT)
Great, Jayme thinks to himself,I have no idea what they're talking about.Though why would he? Many of the books he's read were written by his uncle or friends of his uncle, the rest were very rare and old. His curiosity is peaked enough that he listens though. He might learn something.
