Title: Help Wanted

Alfons Wolfram didn't want just any...assistant, clerk, whatever you want to call it. He placed no ads in papers...simply placed a sign in the window of his tiny shop (a sign stuck out the front, a metal cutout of a wolf and raven entwined) that read Now Hiring (just walk right in!). And just to be sure, he stuck his head outside, bells tinkling merrily, and murmured quietly that he was looking to hire. Because you never knew: some people could talk to birds. Trees. The wind.

Was it coincidence that, a good half-hour later, Teague showed up?
Of course not.
It did take a couple of minutes for the words to reach his ears, though. It wasn't very windy today. Once he heard, he got up from where he'd been sitting (in the park, under a thankfully Tarynless tree) and started making his way to Elm street, and the shop.
He stepped inside, looking around with a faintly bemused expression on his face, and his guitar, as ever, slung on his back. It wasn't very professional to bring a musical instrument when applying for a job, but he didn't particularly care. Besides, the guitar case doubled as a briefcase. And suitcase. Surely that was acceptable.
Teague looked scruffy as usual,... just a little less scruffy. Only someone who knew him, or had seen him more than a few times, would be able to tell the difference.
"Hello?" he said cautiously, slowly blinking his drowsy blue eyes to get them used to the lighting in the shop. "I,...heard you were hiring."

"Did you, now?" his voice rolled out from...somewhere under the counter, sounding extremely pleased. A moment later, Alfons popped up, dropped a key into his pocket and stepped out from behind the register, holding out one huge hand, smiling broadly.
"What's your name, then?"
Danie - July 27, 2005 12:34 AM (GMT)
Teague shook his hand, and returned the smile, though not quite as enthusiastically.
"Eamon Touchstone," he said, seeming to wince. He didn't like to, but he felt he had to give his real name. Not that Teague wasn't his real name,... it just wasn't his 'official' one. "Pleased to meet you, Mr. Wolfram."
Cagey Tiger - July 27, 2005 12:49 AM (GMT)
"Likewise, Mr. Touchstone. Or..." he tilted his head, his smile never flickering. "is there something else you'd like me to call you?"
As he spoke, he turned and shuffled around the shop, pulling out two chairs and a folding card table from behind various draperies, gesturing to one chair and sitting in the other himself.

His smile brightened.
"Actually, I prefer to go by Teague, if you don't mind," he said, removing the guitar case from his back and setting it gently on the floor, out of sight. He sat down in the indicated chair, trying not to slouch as he usually would. " 'Mr. Touchstone' is too much of a mouthful, I've always thought."

"And what do you think are your qualifications for this job?" he waved a hand around the shop. "Feel free to look around, if it'll help." His beaming grin toned itself down to a smirk; Mr. Wolfram was proud of his little shop.

"Mm,... wellll..."
Teague took a moment to look around and gather his thoughts. His gaze roved around the room and the various little knicknacks scattered around. Finally, his gaze came back to rest on Alfons. "I know a fair bit about the merchandise,... charming stuff, really. Other than that - I can honestly say I've no experience working in a shop. I'm a quick learner, though."
Cagey Tiger - July 27, 2005 12:02 PM (GMT)
"That's fine, anyone can learn." Teague was passing so far, so Alfons' smile widened. "And how do I know I can trust you not to thieve?"
Danie - July 27, 2005 12:06 PM (GMT)
"I give you my word that I'd never do that," Teague said, simply and honestly. "But if that's not enough to convince you, then I'm afraid there's not much else I can offer as proof."
Cagey Tiger - July 27, 2005 12:30 PM (GMT)
He stared searchingly at Teague for a moment, then nodded.
"Looks like I'll be hiring you. Yes...you'll attract new customers, is my guess. Girls." he chuckled. "Now what kind of hours were you looking to work?"
Danie - July 27, 2005 12:35 PM (GMT)
He frowned slightly, but he was still smiling.
"Well,... that depends on whether you mean how many, or when," he mused.
Cagey Tiger - July 27, 2005 07:44 PM (GMT)
"Hmm. Both." reaching into one of his pockets, he pulled out a notepad and a small pencil, both looking ridiculously dwarfed in his hands, and began scratching down notes (Teague's name, ideas for a starting salary, and things like that).
Danie - July 27, 2005 08:18 PM (GMT)
"Mm, in that case - well, as many hours as you need me for, and... whatever time you need. My schedule is-" he winced "almost completely open."
Because there's the matter of him being at Jetta's beck and call, which might end up in his dashing off at inopportune moments.
Cagey Tiger - July 27, 2005 08:26 PM (GMT)
He shoved the notepad towards Teague.
"How does that look?"
Because Tie is too lazy to actually figure it out.
Danie - July 27, 2005 08:28 PM (GMT)
Teague leaned over to look,... blinked,... nodded.
"Looks just fine to me," he said reasonably, leaning back in the chair.
Cagey Tiger - July 27, 2005 08:30 PM (GMT)
"And when would you like me to show you the ropes?"
Notice that everything's at Teague's convenience. Alfons is a very laid-back employer.
Danie - July 27, 2005 08:35 PM (GMT)
He raised an eyebrow, smiling.
"I don't suppose you'd have the time now?" he queried.
Alfons and Teague are going to get along just fine.
Cagey Tiger - July 27, 2005 08:49 PM (GMT)
"As a matter of fact, I would."
((Fin? 'cause I can't think of anything else))
