Title: The first time
Description: for Arc
K-Squared - July 1, 2005 09:10 PM (GMT)
Viv followed Uriel to the amusement park. She'd seen such places before, hell she'd done electrical work in a couple, but she had never been to an amusement park for, well.....amusement. Such a control freak, she won't even let herself have fun that often. What has prompted her today? She tries not to think about it as she follows Uriel around while they tried to find two parking spaces at least close to each other.
The place is full of noise and crowds, two more things on Viv's list of "If I can't control it I don't like it", though in this instance she thinks it will be bearable, it is outside after all. Besides shouldn't she ride a roller coaster at least once before she dies?
Finally they manage to snag decent parking spaces, and get parked.
Then they wait in line to pay the park admission. This time Viv pays.
Arcane Blood - July 1, 2005 09:24 PM (GMT)
Uriel thakfully pulled into a parking spot and got off the motorcycle, about ready to collpase. But he wouldn't show it... he'd stick it out and be a man... or try to. He didn't know how long he could hold up, but probably for about another thirty minutes, maybe longer depending. Getting a motorcycle was a bad idea.
For the third time today he got off the bike, landing on his feet firmly, making sure he didn't wobble or anything before walking, then walked beside Viv through the lines. It seemed to take forever, but Uriel hardly noticed.
He simply stood, walking every few minutes in the line's progression.
K-Squared - July 1, 2005 09:35 PM (GMT)
Viv isn't typically aware of other people around her, or she might notice Uriel is likely to kill himself on the bike, soon. Viv usually only figures out the weaknesses in her targets. She stands in line but is clearly not too thrilled when people jostle or bump her. Strange people touching her or talking to her without her innitiating it is simply unacceptable. That's life when you're a control freak.
While they were in the lines Viv looked, in a rather awestruck manner, at the selection of rides. She decided the large swinging boat would probably make her throw up, she had just eaten, she also ignored anything that had the word bungee in the title. The Ferris Wheel however seemed a tame enough thing to start out with, it was after all her first time riding rides.
"How bout that one?" she asked in her lazy southern drawl, and she pointed at the Ferris Wheel so Uriel would know what she was talking about.
Arcane Blood - July 1, 2005 10:13 PM (GMT)
Does that mean what Uriel did was unacceptable, too? After all, he had started talking to her and took her out to eat... but I guess it's justified, since she was the first one to actually speak to him. So I guess that counts as her initiating?
Uriel cocked his head a little, then turned to look where she was pointing. "Yeah, that one looks good," he said a little matter-of-factly, after considering it some. He didn't want to go on anything that'd make him scared to death, you know, because he had all these health issues to deal with.
His pink eyes followed her finger back down her arm until they met with Viv's again, and he seemed to just look for a moment and nothing else.
And it was near their turn to get stamped to go into the park. Uriel would have to take off at least one glove for that, wouldn't he.
K-Squared - July 1, 2005 10:21 PM (GMT)
Yes she started it, thus it was okay for him to speak with her. No problem, see, you understand her twisted logic.
They made it to the little booth where you get your hand stamped and buy tickets for the rides etc. Again Viv took out a large wad of cash as she had at the park admission kiosk and paid for unlimited rides, She had no idea what she was going to want to ride, or Uriel either, so this expenditure made sense to her. Lucky for Uriel, the unlimited rides option, they stick a glow in the dark type arm band on you rather than a stamp.
This process completed they went out into the Midway and made their way towards the Ferris Wheel.
Arcane Blood - July 1, 2005 11:11 PM (GMT)
Uriel felt bad that she was paying for this. The meal hadn't nearly been as expensive as this was going to be, and Viv really didn't need to pay for it. After all, wasn't he the one who'd wanted to take her somewhere in the first place?
Lucky for Uriel indeed. He'd been a bit worried about that, you see, and didn't want people to start screaming 'demon' if someone saw his claws. He'd made someone else very nervous when they'd seen his broken off wings, and that was why he'd made it a virtue to wear some sort of covering on his hands at all times. Fortunately for him, most people just mistook this as a weird glove fetish of some sort... though he had to admit, his hands sweat a lot when he wore them.
"You didn't have to pay, you know. I'll make it up to you."
K-Squared - July 1, 2005 11:23 PM (GMT)
"It's only money." she says. "No need to worry over it." She's not at all concerned about it. It seems there are plenty of things to be repaired in Bayfield, she's been raking in the cash legitimately lately. Somehow it is much more satisfying to spend money no one bled for, but Viv won't admit so on a conscious level. Besides, as far as her twisted little mind is concerned she started the whole thing by talking to him in the first place.
"There's nothing to make up for." she tells him. Viv will give money away all day long, just never borrow if you can't pay it back, she's unpleasant when she collects loans.
They get in line for the Ferris Wheel. Which is not very long at all, it being one of the less intense rides. Soon it is their turn to take a seat.
Arcane Blood - July 1, 2005 11:32 PM (GMT)
No need to worry about money? It seemed an odd thing to say, especially since that was what Uriel had been doing most of his life. Worrying about money... worrying if he was going to get an eviction notice. Worrying about money... that and his drug addiction were the things that landed him in that hell hole of a trashy apartment in the first place. The story of Uriel's life, and many other people's.
"Well, okay.." If she said so, he wouldn't worry about it. It was as simple as that.
The Ferris Wheel... what memories that brought up. Memories that shouldn't have been brought up, and memories he didn't want to be brought up. But they were brought up, and apparently there to stay. He did his best to ignore them, and as it was their turn to be seated, slipped into a not too high starting and not too clumped seat.
K-Squared - July 1, 2005 11:45 PM (GMT)
They got onto the Ferris Wheel. They didn't even wind up in a particularly crowded seat. In fact three children were seated across from them and no one else was sitting on their side of the little compartment. The children made faces at them. Viv only waved. She likes children, it's adults that tend to tick her off, authority figures especially.
It took a few minutes for the other compartments to fill. Slowly they were rachetted up as the other compartment cars were occupied. Then the ride began. It really wasn't a very big deal the circle simply carried them up and down in a circuit, though it was very tall. At the pinacle one could look down on the entire park and glimpse people the size of bugs in addition to seeing all the other rides.
"Wow, you two are boring! No holding hands, no making out, no nothing. What are you cousins or something?" the oldest looking of the children said, he looked about ten.
Viv simply raised an eyebrow at the comment.
Arcane Blood - July 1, 2005 11:58 PM (GMT)
Uriel made an interesting face back. Except it wasn't a face... it was more of an expression, per se. He raised his eyebrows a little, and his lips curved downward slightly in an odd way. A frown made everything attractive about him come out in a gloomy sort of way, and he was almost (but not quite) pouting. And in an instant he shook his head and looked over to the side, frown disappearing and eyebrows levelling out back to where they were intended to be.
Uriel didn't... really... like kids. He's jealous, and you can't really blame him. He's had to grow up too fast, losing his whole childhood to the way he was born and raised. He never really had a childhood, you could say. This ride wasn't the best one to pick, but Uriel shook it off. He was being stupid. This was no time to act moody, especially out of nowhere.
So a faint smirk tugged at his lips instead, and he looked down at all the people on the ground in the park. Despite the memories it brought, he had no objection to this ride. It wouldn't give him a heart attack, and the view was nice. He absolutely adored nature, and this provided him a way to see all of the trees.
"My, you're a nosey little bugger, hm? I thought kids your age were supposed to think couples were gross."
K-Squared - July 2, 2005 12:10 AM (GMT)
At this the kid simply made a haughty pout and crossed his arms over his chest. He was so absurd looking Viv laughed. It was rather like a blue bird puffing up at a predator. Of coarse Viv is not the sort of person who usually laughs, smiling is rare enough.
Maybe her wits got addled and baked in the sun when she pushed the car earlier, but for whatever reason she can't seem to stop laughing at the boy. Which of coarse infuriates the kid. He looks even angrier, which looks more absurd as he scowls at her. She is laughing so hard at the boy she can barely breath, her face is bright red and her eyes are watering. This inspires the little troll to retort with a "Shut up!".
When he says this she laughs even more, and apparently she looks funny enough that the other two children join in her laughter. The boy is red with fury and all puffed up across the compartment and at this point Viv can't even sit up straight from laughing at him. So she has slumped onto Uriel shaking with laughter.
Arcane Blood - July 2, 2005 03:21 PM (GMT)
Uriel raised an eyebrow at Viv's laughter, then even more so at the children's laughter. Was it really that funny? For whatever reason, soon afterwards Uriel was shaking his head and rolling his eyes, giving a soft chuckle at their antics. Ah, humanity was wonderful.
"You know, at this point it's useless to try and get them to stop laughing." Uriel gave an amost smocking smile to the child, but it was playful enough. His smile, however, looked... odd? His teeth were almost all pointed and very very sharp to the touch. They looked like large snake fangs and it was mildly creepy.
K-Squared - July 2, 2005 04:42 PM (GMT)
Viv didn't notice the teeth, perhaps the children did because they slowly stopped laughing and got very quiet. Or maybe it was only that the ride was slowing down. Whatever it ws he ride was soon over and they were all climbing out.
"What a strange little kid." Viv said when he was out of earshot.
They made it back out to the Midway and Viv was looking over the games where you can win those ridiculous prizes like goldfish that will die in a day, and giant TeleTubbies. She walked up to one of them it had standard teddy bears as opposed to some of the gaudier prizes. Viv doesn't care about the toy though, they let you throw knives at balloons to pop them. Sure the things are probably wieghted but Viv can throw screwdrivers with deadly accuracy, so this should be a cake walk. Uriel seems to be curious about what she's up to. she pays for a turn and takes the three knives. She spends a few minutes testing the balance of them. When she throws them she throws all three at once and they all stick in the same red balloon. The guy running the booth looks duely impressed. "Pick a prize." he says.
"Pick one." she tells Uriel.
Arcane Blood - July 2, 2005 05:08 PM (GMT)
Uriel might've felt mildly bad if he was the reason they quieted down and looked a tad scared or something of the such. But he didn't, so it hardly mattered.
He climbed out of the ride and regained his spot next to Viv, walking beside her.
"Indeed." Uriel had to agree, but he seemed oddly indifferent still. Out of sight, out of mind, as they say.
Uriel leaned up against a stand, and raised an eyebrow at her. The reason he was leaning up against the stand was so he could stop his stomach from hurting, and he tried to cover a shaky breath as a yawn.
He seemed as impressed as the man running the booth, and didn't hesitate to say, "Wicked aim." A small smirk tugged at his lips, and he placed a slender hand on his hip.
"That one." He said, pointing to one of the softer, sort of smaller coffee-brown colored teddy bears.
K-Squared - July 2, 2005 05:23 PM (GMT)
The attendant handed over the bear. Viv smiled when Uriel took it. "You should see what I can do with salad forks." she confides to the atendant before they move on.
They pass the bumper cars though Viv does watch intrigued by them for a few minutes. They also pass something called the "cage of doom". Viv isn't in the mood for doom. Then there is a haunted house, not really a ride but a walk through type. She shrugs as a couple kids come out. "It can't be very scary." she says. What could be scary in there compared to what you've seen Viv... she wonders to herself, so she skips it too.
She does decide the petting zoo looks fun....there is a zebra in there, she would not mind petting a zebra. "Come on." she says moving towards it and taking Uriel's hand.
Arcane Blood - July 2, 2005 05:31 PM (GMT)
Uriel looked like a contented little kid carrying that bear and holding it by its arm for a moment, before he became paranoid that he'd drop it and move it so it looked like it was holding onto his hip.
There's also a house of mirrors which looks only mildly intriguing, and there's booths to get face paintings, stands to get snacks, and there's a couple rides. Uriel cautiously eyed the roller coaster and its windy track, frowning a little as people screamed as it went faster and around in loops. He overlooked it as they passed on, and studied the haunted house as Viv commented on it.
"Can't be." He said with a gentle shrug.
Uriel had nothing against animals, so followed along, not any less contented than he'd looked previously. He obviously still had the gloves on, and couldn't actually pet the animals. He could touch them, sure, but he couldn't actually feel them.
K-Squared - July 2, 2005 05:44 PM (GMT)
Viv spends all her change in those coin fed animal feed dispensers, she'd had a lot of change too. She must have fed each animal in there twice before deciding to leave. She had to concede there were some aspects of the amusement park that were actually amusing. She'd never had a chance to visit one as a kid, unless her mother had taken her, but she couldn't even remember her mother.
Mac would never have permitted her and the boys to go do anything as frivilous as an amusement park, they had school work and spells to study. Where ever Gat was he'd love this place....she sighed and brushed feed from her hands as they walked away from the petting zoo. No good to think about her step-brother, he was likely some place very far away. If only Viv knew.
Just on the other side of the petting zoo was a train ride that went around and through the whole park. It seemed relatively calm and not terribly fast so Viv pointed to it. Yep, the control freak isn't ready for the big kid rides yet, lucky Uriel.
Arcane Blood - July 2, 2005 06:16 PM (GMT)
Uriel sort of stood around a little way away from Viv so that he wouldn't scare the animals away. Animals tend to get vibes from people, and know what they were on a more complicated sense. But Uriel's demon blood ran deep within him... beneath his skin, it pumped furiously through his veins. His claws tensed from underneath the gloves as he eyed the animals almost warily.
He couldn't bring himself to touch one, but they were nice to look at. He wondered absently if Viv might be wondering why he didn't bother to get too near to the animals. He didn't want his instincts to take over his common sense. That would be terrifying.
Of course, he simply set a faint smile to his lips as he watched, his free arm (the right one, which was not holding onto the bear) subconsciously wrapping itself around his stomach for the time being.
Uriel was actually enjoying himself, though. So far he'd been able to hold out, hadn't shown his wings or claws (though he'd accidentally showed his teeth), and hadn't thrown up yet. The train ride looked like it promised not to screw anything up, either, so he nodded vaguely.
"Wanna go?" To the train ride, not out of the park.
K-Squared - July 2, 2005 06:26 PM (GMT)
Viv figues this is nothing new to him, that's why he's siting off on the sidelines, he's jsut letting her do whatever.....I guess we'll let her go on thinking that too, she has no reason to suspect that he's anything other than what he appears to be right now. Much like Uriel has over looked some of Viv's oddness....what kind of a girl can throw knives like that hmmm?
"Sure lets do that." she says about the train. Once more she takes his hand. she hasn't said anything about the gloves yet. Perhaps because the park is in the forefront of her mind. She doesn't walk very fast, though it does seem she plans out her path before walking to her goals.....it's just something about the way she places her steps. She does think he's rather cute carrying around the teddy bear, but she says nothing. She smiles at him with it but nothing more.
The line for the train is also not long. So they are seated on it rather quickly. Viv is glad her legs are getting rather tired. She's not thinking about the fact she was pushing her car around earlier. She holds Uriel's gloved hand on the train.
Arcane Blood - July 2, 2005 06:39 PM (GMT)
His hand unwrapped itself from his stomach in order to hold her hand properly. His fingers seemed a little long because of the claws, but that was another thing Viv was overlooking. It seemed easy overlook such things when you weren't paying attention, but when you were it was hard not to overlook them.
Feathers silently ruffled under his shirt, shifting as if trying to get comfortable. He held her hand now, and surprisingly the glove wasn't even that hot yet. He walked in silence... nothing really needed to be said, did it?
Still he said nothing as they were seated on the train, and tried not to lean on Viv. Here goes his tiredness again, and the sudden sick feeling in his stomach. He didn't say anything about it.
The teddy bear ended up beside him, seated like a small child on the ride.
K-Squared - July 2, 2005 08:46 PM (GMT)
Viv was less alert to her surroundings now and a bit moe aware of what's going on in the little train car with her, than what's outside it. Uriel is obviously tired and trying to downplay it. She of coarse doesn't know how tired. She's tired herself. She had spent the bulk of her day hanging sheetrock, somewhat demanding work. then she had wound up pushing the car and then this little adventure? She guessed seh could safely call it that. It might seem rather boring to some people but to someone as obsessed with control as Viv this constituted adventerous.
"Did you want to ride anything else, or are you ready to go?" she asked him. Though that might not be enough, perhaps if he felt like it ws her idea and not that she was just asking? "I have to work, early......" she offered.
Arcane Blood - July 2, 2005 08:57 PM (GMT)
Uriel was always tired, no matter what he was doing, or what he had previously done. That's what you get when you don't take care of yourself, and your health problems pile up on you. Uriel hasn't had any drugs today, either, so he might come off as starting to get a bit cranky. He thought he might, but it didn't really show all that much... or at least not as much as he expected it to. He was doing a good job of hiding it.
"It doesn't matter to me. I'm a bit tired, but if you don't want to go, we can stay for a little longer. I can hold up until then."
K-Squared - July 2, 2005 09:12 PM (GMT)
She talked very quietly to him "We can go, I've just never been to a park like this before. Always wondered, but never wanted to go alone." She didn't elaborate on any of that, clearly there was more to it. She wasn't willing to get into it though.
"I'm glad you came with me." she told him smiling at him and giving his hand a gentle squeeze.
((Blah, short lame, sorry))
Arcane Blood - July 2, 2005 09:19 PM (GMT)
"Mm, if it's your desire to leave, we can leave." He gave a slow but deliberate nod, paying attention, despite his tiredness, to her words. again, he found there to be a hidden meaning, but he wasn't going to go digging for it if she wasn't willing to tell him.
"It was my pleasure," he said softly, soothingly, as if comforting a small child. His voice was low, but soft and thick, much like velvet, pleasing and smooth like the cream you pour into your coffee in the morning.
((No apologizing. *slaps.*))
K-Squared - July 2, 2005 09:46 PM (GMT)
The train continued to wind through the last quarter of it's circuit and Viv sat with him in silence, still holding his hand. For whatever reason she felt comfortable with him, even though she'd just picked him up at a gas station......She did not explore that any further, she put it aside and locked it away in her mind. There were many things Viv simply didn't deal with, she simply didn't know how any more. At the same time, in this particular instance she's also ignoring her deliberately constructed defense mechanisms, but if you'd told her, she would have refused to see it.
He spoke to her softly, soothingly, as if comforting a small child. His voice was low, but soft and thick, much like velvet, pleasing and smooth like the cream you pour into your coffee in the morning. Perhaps that was part of it right there, no one had ever comforted her as a small child....so perhaps that was why he was comforting now. She did not analyze it.
The train stopped and they disembarked making their way towards the parking lot. Uriel was still carefully carrying the teddy bear. Viv was trying not to let her mind wander too much. It must not have been working too well, for the second time since being at the park she found herself smothering thoughts of Gat.....But this time also Turner. Those she pushed back into the recesses of her mind quickly. She had found Turner in time to watch him die on a rainy Tuesday, the day before she was supposed to marry him. She locked those thoughts down again. She wouldn't think about pain. She was pain....she let that thought go too.....she didn't want to be pain either, not right now...because of Uriel?
That's right Viv don't think, don't analyze, you might find the truth about yourself if you do...............
Arcane Blood - July 2, 2005 10:22 PM (GMT)
Truth was, Uriel felt comfortable with almost anyone. As long as he had company, he was pretty much content. Unless, of course, said company was trying to kill him or just sent him a bad, annoying, or strange vibe. He tended to stay away from people like that, but only on a very subconscious level. He looked out of the cart for a time as the train went through its tracks and Uriel stayed silent, holding onto both Viv's hand and the hand of the teddy bear.
Uriel got off the train once it stopped, making way for the people that were now getting on, and he tried to straighten himself out of that habitual slouch. It only made him sicker, so he went back to slouching again anyway. The teddy bear was now clinging to his hip again, remaining there as a momento of tonight, or something of the sort.
Uriel almost missed a step and tripped, but he regained his balance and walked normally again (or as normally as Uriel could walk. He always swayed on his feet, capable of making someone possibly sick). He almost lost it again with that demon gene, but he managed to keep himself leveled.
Finally, after a while of walking, Uriel made his way to his vehicle.
He said nothing, because he couldn't bring himself to ask if he could contact her later or something. For some odd reason, he just... couldn't.
K-Squared - July 2, 2005 11:04 PM (GMT)
Viv turned to thank him again and he was already getting on his bike. Well what the hell....She let it go and didn't try to make any sense out of it, the world after all did not make sense. She climbed into the car and cranked it. It purred like a kitten and she was grateful. She passed him as she pulled out, he was retracting the kickstand. She waved and he waved back. Strange day....She was tired though and so she drove back to her room.
