Title: The Witching Hour
Danie - June 16, 2005 03:38 PM (GMT)
It was late,... or early, depending on your perception of time. Everything was dark, - in fact, everything seemed to be closed except the 24-hour convenience store around the corner, which was shedding fluorescent light onto the cracked pavement. Seeing as it was a weekday, the streets were deathly quiet at this hour, so it was no surprise that the faint clicking of claws on cement could be heard long before the source of the sound was visible.
A large, grey-tan shaggy-furred canine padded out of one of the many narrow alleyways riddling this end of town. His tongue was hanging out the side of his mouth. He stopped a moment by the doors of the convenience store, his bright amber eyes taking a quick glance through the glass to see if there was anyone there. His ears seemed to droop when he found it empty,... this was one very lonely wolf. Werewolf, that is.
Well, technically he might be called a werewolf.
Giving a big doggy sigh, he lay down on the cool ground by the doors, resting his nose on his paws. There didn't seem to be anyone around to play with, or to scratch his ears. Well, Darcy would wait a little longer. If no one appeared, he'd switch back to his human form, and go home. Probably to bed,... he shouldn't be stayng up this late, when he had to get up early tomorrow,... but he was just so damn lonely....
Kaylee - June 16, 2005 04:06 PM (GMT)
Lovely...I'm Mr. Lonely...no, lonely is something Kaylee is not. He simply goes out and finds someone if that problem arrises. So why was he here in this area? Attractive and rich, he could be partying at some all day night club. The answer is simple, becuase he finds more interesting people when he is at someplace where you don't find a lot of people. Like NieNie for instance.
He was in that 24-hour convenience store. Why the wolf hadn't noticed him is becase he had been crouching down in front of the munchies, drolling and trying to figure out what to buy. His tight leather pants squeaked every now and then when he moved, he refused to kneel down, lest he get his pants dirty. He needed a major sugar fix. Normally he'd just make his food, but he didn't feel up to it.
Okies, lets see, 4 bags of cheetos, two crunchy and two extra spicy...5 large lollipops, and one jumbo size bag of Reeses, Twix, and Snickers mix. Oh yes, and two things of Doritos, ranch flavored and BBQ flavored.
Now having a nice collection of unhealthies, he gathered them up and walked over to the cash register, his expensive buckled leather boots clicking on the floor. He really looked out of place. The cashier raised an eyebrow at the young man's choice in food but rung them up anyways.
Kaylee looked over the store, straightening out his small, pink shirt. It was rather tight and fit to his form but it looked good on him what can I say? The pretty white letters on the shirt spelled out 'PRINCESS', very fitting despite the fact that he was obviously male. He paid the man in cash and collected up the bags of food, one in each hand and walked out the door.
He was about to continue on but he doubled back, looking back to the door. There was a big doggie! Kaylee's eyes widened and he made a fwee noise, jumping back and squating in front of the wolfie. He leaned down, so that his nose was touching the other's. How he managed to do that? Simple, Kaylee is so flexible it is almost disgusting.
"Hello cutie!" He smiled sweetly, pulling back and setting the bags down, petting the wolf behind the ears. He loved doggies, very cute, especially this one. He smile sweetly and cocked his head, looking through his bags, he felt generous tonight. He grinned.
"Want something to eat? I have only sugar mind you, but I'm sure there is something you'd like, huh boy?" He assumed it was a male, as big as he was. He petted the puppy some more, silently cooing over him.

It would be pointless to describe Branwen's clothing because he simply wasn't wearing any. Instead of a shirt, he wore feathers. Instead of shoes, he wore bird-skinned feet. He'd traded his arms for wings and his nose for a beak so he could go soaring above the city he called home.
He'd been flying for most of the day, actually, and was beginning to get a little tired. He knew he'd stashed his clothes somewhere around here...aha! Some dumpster next to some place...he knew he'd remember eventually. He was also getting a little hungry and didn't want to stoop to eating bird food like bugs and worms.
Hey, he recognised that lamp post...and that store! He remembered that store! His clothes had to be somewhere around here. He didn't, however, remember that dog. Bran didn't like dogs. Sure, they were fine animals, but ever since he got his own milkshake dropped on his head by a telepathic one, he'd been distrustful of them. The dog had also given his boyfriend a massive headache so Bran's adversion to them was understandable. From a certain view.
No problem. All he had to do was fly over them and change in the alley. So long as he was behind the dumpster, no one would see.
A windy swooshing sound went over the two heads and Bran made it into the alley. Behind the trash bin and voila! His clothes were in the plastic bag he'd left them in.
A minute or so later he was fully dressed and prepared to walk out of the alley. Well..let's hope they don't see him, right?
He ran his fingers through his soft, feathery black hair, trying to flatten it out. His golden eyes scanned his dress to make sure he didn't have any random feathers sticking out of places. Nope. His blue dress shirt was clean, the grey long sleeved shirt underneath it impecable and his jeans and converses didn't look any worse for the wear. Now walk out of the alley and hope no one catches you.

A seemingly sexless figure shuffled across the sidewalks in old, worn nike sneakers, with small hands stuffed in the pockets of equally worn jeans. Her favorite blue sweatshirt with the letters 'BONG' embroidered in the front with white and gray appeared black in this night and made her look like she was a male, or... a female? It was impossible to tell until she wandered into light (which she didn't do) as her hood was oulled over her short hair as well as almost over her face.
Her blond hair, cut nearly too short for a girl still fell into her blue-green eyes. They were blue when one looked from a distance, but more green when one happened to look up close. Thus, they were blue-green.
She was a couple of feet away from Darcy and Kaylee, and looked at her shoes as she shuffled on, so she hadn't noticed them.
Oh my god, oh my god... It's dark out, and there are freaky people out here, and I'm lost... oh my god. I bet nobody even cares that I'm gone, either. Oh man.. oh my god, I am so going to get eaten by something..

Emrys could have been heard coming from forever away, especially by a dog with good hearing. He came with a distinct tap...tap...tap sound of wood on concrete. His cane was a twisted, shorter version of a staff though, it may be just a bit tall to be called technically a cane either. He moved with a slow but confident pace, one hand out and on the wall, sliding the length of the brick. He wore simple clothing, no color and no pictures. As a blind man living alone, the best kind of clothing are white, black, gray, and tan since those colors go together no matter the combination. Tonight, he wore blue jeans, a pair of black Nikes, and a black, short-sleeved polo shirt with a dipped neckline. Scars ran over his hands and halfway to his elbows, and more scars showed just peeking over the line of the shirt. His hair was too long to be called short but too short to tie back, a sooty black color. His skin was darkly tanned, the scars being a lighter color. He wore a blindfold over his eyes.
Emrys walked slowly, his lips moving and a soft whisper imitating from them.
“sixty-six, sixty-seven, sixty-eight...” He counted a number with each step he took. He was trying to find the convenient store, and this was the fifth time he’d walked this street and been unable to find it. Unfortunately, the reason being he was standing right across from it, on the wrong side of the street. He would have found it by now. Should have, but he was just on the wrong side.
He heard sounds, a voice, across the street. Distinctly male. He froze like a deer in the headlights, not moving. Not hardly breathing. Ever since he’d been attacked, he’d been nervous about meeting people on the street, but he couldn’t let one attack stop him from ever leaving campus. Right? Right?

Well.
Darcy was definitely getting what he'd been looking for.
He snuffled eagerly at Kaylee, nuzzling against the human's hands so he would continue scratching his ears. Mmm,.. did that ever feel nice. He sat up so he could playfully shove the human, intending to topple him over and snuffle at his face. Of course, just as he was about to, a swift movement overhead caught his attention, and he stopped.
Qu'est-ce que... oh, only a bird... he thought, dismissing the creature to turn his attention back to Kaylee,... then new scents caught his attention, new sounds,... a girl, not far away - it smelled like a girl, but he couldn't tell just by looking. Darcy's ears gave a flick as he caught the noise of footsteps, and counting, and tapping,... and also,... a faint human smell, mingling with that of garbage. More people! Maybe they'd come to say hello, too...? He gave a joyful yip, and rolled onto his back, hoping that Kaylee would take the hint and give him a tummy-rub. He was acting like a great big puppy, rather than the large wolf that he was. He did it partly because it got him attention, and partly because really, even as a human, he was just a great big puppy.
Kaylee - June 16, 2005 05:31 PM (GMT)
Kaylee had noticed the bird and the girl. After that he saw only the girl, and the puppy too. He grinned and waved to her. He hadn't seen NieNie in forever! How nice, to run into your girlfriend on a chance meeting. How did he know it was NieNie? He knew that sweater, if he was wrong though, whatever!
"Hey! Hey! Hello ma peu beauté!" That was his petname for NieNie, hopefully she would recognize him. He brushed a few of his long curls out of his face, yes, she couldn't mistake him for anyone. He smiled and a yip distracted him back to the doggie.
He gave a squee and leaned forward, he knew what the puppy wanted. Why aren't you friendly? He giggled and rubbed the doggy's tummy, giving a few scratches every other rub. He already loved this dog, most aren't as friendly right away. He grinned prettily.
"Good boy, my how handsome you are..." He gave another laugh. He hadn't pet a dog in like, forever, how nice.
Renata - June 16, 2005 06:36 PM (GMT)
Woah, people. He hadn't really expected to run into so many. Well, not a lot. Not really. Just more than he thought he'd see. Ok. So two. Three if you counted the guy with the blind fold, but he probably didn't even know they were there.
Just as he was stepping out of the alley, the dog rolled onto its back and into his path. Bran didn't want to squish a dog's head no matter how much he distrusted them. That's not true..he just didn't want to squish this dog's head. It would be messy and the animal probably didn't even deserve it. It seemed like a regular old dog, anyway. But back to the main issue. He didn't want to step on it so he jumped in order to avoid it. Such an action set off a chain of events that can only be described as clumsy at best. He missed the dog's head but landed smack dab in someone else's path.
"Oh shit," he groaned. Maybe he should have just waited and walked around the dumb dog...
Arcane Blood - June 16, 2005 07:16 PM (GMT)
Ma peu beauté...Ma peu beauté.. Who do I know that says that.. She frowned thoughtfully, looking around. Ma peu beauté.. Damn it, who in the hell /says/ that?
"Wha, wha-- whoa! Hey, are you all right?" She asked, seeing as this guy had obviously not meant to do that, or something... and she was not comfortable with all these people around.
Then a lightbulb turned on in her head, and she realized-- Kaylee!
"I'm so sorry," she mumbled quietly, "didn't mean to.. I should have watched where I was going." Obviously the voice was female, and she blamed herself for crossing paths with this stranger.
She couldn't call out to Kaylee right now, because... well, because it'd be... rude?
Massacist - June 16, 2005 07:56 PM (GMT)
Emrys stood against the oposite wall listening to the comotion. He was in the fight of flight position. Was he willing to be around people again or was he going to go running, even though he was already lost. He didn't need to run to loose himself again, that would not be good.
"Excuse me."
Had anybody even heared the quiet call. His voice was raspy, hard, like his vocals had been burned or he smoked too much.
Danie - June 16, 2005 08:10 PM (GMT)
Darcy's left hind leg kicked involuntarily as he got his tummy rubbed. Then he rolled over again, not knowing which way to look first. Some guy just fell over,... wel, oops. Darcy's ears swivelled this way and that as he tried to keep up. Hearing yet another voice (a softer one) added to the mix of noises in his sensitive ears, he rolled his eyes towards Emrys, and gave a yip as if to beckon him over. The more the merrier,... though only Kaylee was paying attention to him, he loved to be surrounded by people.
Kaylee - June 16, 2005 08:22 PM (GMT)
Kaylee stood up grinning, "Over here NieNie."
He gave the wolfie an extra scratch behind the ears, he left his bags on and was about to go over to her before a voice destracted him. He looked towards where he heard the voice. there was a man with a blindfold around his eyes. That caught Kaylee's interest and he walked over to him in only a few long strides.
He smiled and didn't touch him, he found out that can scare people. "Evening sir. Need something?" The smile was audible in his deep, svelt voice. It was calming too, hopefully the man wouldn't freak out and smack him with that stick of his.
Renata - June 17, 2005 02:50 AM (GMT)
"Yeah, I'm fine, don't worry about it..."
He began--or tried to begin--getting up from his spot on the ground. Once he finally managed to get himself into a sitting position, he inspected his wrist. It was throbbing slightly, but hopefully he hadn't done anything to it that would damage it for more than a few minutes.
"Don't blame yourself, I was the one who practically jumped into you. It was my fault."
My, that dog was awefully close. Bran actually gave a little start when it yipped to something over yonder. Well would you look at that. Another person. They were having themselves a regular old get together, weren't they?
He turned back to Nienna, "I didn't break anything, did I?" Asking after her health, of course.
Arcane Blood - June 18, 2005 03:29 PM (GMT)
"Nope. I'm perfectly fine. 's there anything I can do?" She asked, giving Bran a once-over. He looked okay, save for his wrists... hopefully his wrists weren't delicate, or he didn't play an instrument. Or both.
She turned and waved to Kaylee, calling out very softly a rather quiet hello.
Then the dog yipped and she turned once more.
Oh. My. Dog. Big dog. Very, very big dog. Hehehe... nice doggy?
"Ack.." She was so close from inching away, or just taking off running right now.
So. much. humanity. So scary.
Massacist - June 18, 2005 08:49 PM (GMT)
"I...er..." After the visit from Alice and Verkur, and of course, Logan's lovely greeting gift, Emerys wasn't just wry of people. He was more scared of nice people then rotten people. After all, Logan had offered so nicely to help him find his way home. Alice had thanked him for healing him. And Verkur...well, he just treated him....nicely?....ever since he'd beat him near to death. So he stepped back, his elbow hit the wall and he nearly jumped out of his skin.
"nnnn..." he was about to say no when all the other voices took sound. People. There were more people. Which means that nothing bad can happen with witnesses around, or, almost nothing.
"I'm lost."
Danie - June 18, 2005 09:24 PM (GMT)
Darcy, catching the faint scent of fear, and also the touch of it in Emrys' voice, rolled to his feet and padded over. Upon reaching him, he snuffled eagerly at him and licked his hand, giving a low growly sort of whine that was meant to pass for a happy greeting. Hello there. You are afraid - silly. Nothing to be afraid of here.
He paused a moment, then sniffed at his hand.
Interesting smell...
Kaylee - June 20, 2005 12:56 AM (GMT)
Kaylee blinked twice then gave a slow smile, petting the wolf and looking around to NieNie. Satisfied that she had stood still he looked back to Emrys, a smile on his face. The young man was lost was he?
Kaylee licked his lips, giving a pout, "You're lost? Are you looking for a certain place by chance?"
Well of course he was probably looking for a place! He is lost, and either he is trying to find his way back home or is trying to find another place or something. Okay, enough rambling, try to focus. He gave the wolf another pat, focusing his thoughts on helping the blind man.
Renata - June 24, 2005 02:47 AM (GMT)
"No, I'm good, too." He worked his wrist a bit. Nothing that wouldn't be solved with an ice pack and a good night's rest.
Then, inevidibly, Bran's attention was focus where the dog ran and the other person called. The blind man. Oh well. They seemed to have it covered. He continued sitting and watched.
