Title: Rides, shops, and cotton candy.
Description: -For Danie. ^-^

Arcane Blood - April 22, 2005 11:22 PM (GMT)
There were rides, shops, and cotton candy... but she was all alone. Technically speaking, that is. Her family had split up into two groups; both consisted of four people. Nienna's, now, only consisted of herself. Her sister had run off with her boyfriend to eat and go to a couple rides in which you got wet (Nienna didn't want to, even though it was quite warm out), and her brother had tagged along with them. Her father and mother were with her younger sister and her older brother.

And now she was alone, and almost uncomfortably so. But she was all right with it, and forced a smile. Then she was on her way, weaving her way through a crowd of chattering people, to a bench, where she could rest for a while.

The blonde-haired girl looked a tad skittish, and somewhat nervous, as she walked with a less-than confident stride, and ran a hand through her shoulder-length hair. It fell into her eyes, but she didn't push it away, because that was the intent... to hide her blue green eyes. To hide her face. Because she was ugly... she didn't like people to look at her face.

She was wearing a short-sleeved camouflage shirt, with the words, in white, 'Ha! Now you can't see me.' printed across the front. She had faded black, slightly dressy jeans on, and a red sweatshirt tied onto her waist by the sleeves that completed the look. She didn't care if the colors clashed... it was too hot to put the sweatshirt back on.

She looked like a scared cat, or a spooked horse, as she nearly stumbled when she brushed againt the side of someone, and mumbled a 'sorry', before hurriedly scurrying off to an empty bench to sit at.

Darcy was by himself as well, meandering around the park and scuffing the heels of his brown sandals against the ground as he walked. For someone who made such an effort to make friends, he was alone an awful lot. He always sought out the most populated places he could find, and tried every excuse in the book to walk up and meet people, but they never stayed long enough to suit him.

On this lovely day, he looked... sort of like a wet dog (but thankfully didn't smell like one). He was soaked, from having gone on a few of the wetter rides the park had to offer. He had on light, light grey jeans cut off at the knee, and a blue t-shirt that had a picture of a grinning shark on it. His hair was damp enough to stay down in some places, and stick up in crazy spikes in others.
And it kept dripping in his face.

Annoyed, he shook his head, to try and get the water off. He sprayed a few people with water droplets, but they laughed and didn't seem to mind. Sighing, he ran a hand back through his hair. His amber eyes roved the area and settled on Nienna. She looked like she was all by her lonesome, like he was.
Couldn't hurt to talk to her...
He walked up behind her, leaning over so that he was right by her ear. "I see you!" he said jokingly, referring to the message on her shirt.

Arcane Blood - April 23, 2005 12:00 AM (GMT)
Nienna didn't look up when people started laughing, because, since this was an amusement park, lots of people laughed. But Nienna didn't laugh. She stared down at the pavement, and at her dirtied, once white skechers shoes, twirling a lock of blonde hair in one of her small hands. A sigh escaped her lips, as she tried not to look overly morose. This trip to the amusement park was supposed to be fun, but here Nienna thought it was a drag. She thought herself selfish for ruining the trip by being sad. But there was nobody she knew around to notice, anyway.

She nearly jumped when someone said something, right by her ear. It had almost scared her to death, and confused her. He could see her? So what? Everyone could see her... then she realized he was talking about her shirt. Oh... she was glad she hadn't said anything yet, and felt rather stupid.

She forced a weak smile, and looked up, turning her head to look at Darcy. He was wet, which made her think of how her family had ditched her... and then she scolded herself for being so pathetic.

"Heh, I guess you do."

Come on, Nienna, you can do better than that.

Danie - April 23, 2005 12:13 AM (GMT)
"Of course I do, you can not blend in that well," he said, hoping that that didn't sound like an insult. It could be interpreted either way, and he regretted saying it. He went on anyway, hoping that by ignoring what he'd said, he could make it unimportant. It wasn't like him to put his foot in his mouth, straight off. Halfway through a conversation, maybe, but not two sentences in.

"I'm Darcy," he said suddenly, offering to shake hands, and giving her a pleasant, friendly smile, "And you are looking like you are by yourself. Are you? Or are you waiting for friends?"

Arcane Blood - April 23, 2005 12:20 AM (GMT)
"Unfortunately." Nienna said, with a little shrug of her shoulder. She really didn't mean to come off like this, but she couldn't help it. If it was meant to be an insult, Nienna didn't catch it... and that's probably a good thing for Darcy that she didn't take it that way, because she would've told him off with some colorful language.

"Oh, well," she said, pausing to think, "both, actually. I'm sorta with family, and uhm, they're elsewhere. But I guess you know how that goes.." The last part was said a little bit more sadly than the rest of what she said.

She looked down at his offered hand, and timidly accepted a handshake. It's just a handshake, Nienna, nothing more. He's friendly, he's friendly... really. He doesn't want to hurt you.

"I'm... Nienna."

Danie - April 23, 2005 12:34 AM (GMT)
"Ouais, I do know, actually," Darcy said matter-of-factly, but without a hint of the sadness Nienna was showing. "Of course, that is not what 'appened to me today, I just came 'ere by myself. Bien, since you are toute seule - sorry, I mean, by yourself - as well, we should 'ang out, don't you think?"

He looked at her expectantly. Anyone could tell she wasn't happy about being left alone, and if there was anyone around who would sympathize with her about that, it would be Darcy. Though he was still smiling, he managed to give her a pleading look. "Come on, what do you say?"

Arcane Blood - April 23, 2005 12:43 AM (GMT)
Nienna looked around for a moment, as if to check if any of her family was around and noticed her, and when she didn't see any familiar faces, she looked back at Darcy, trying desperately to look into his eyes. She was sort of shy, and had a problem with looking people in the eyes, or at their face. She didn't mean to offend anyone, it was just something she grew up doing. Avoding eye-contact, that is. Her parents never did teach her to do that, you know.

"Well, uhm, I guess." She gave a gentle nod... he was friendly enough, right? And not at all lacking in the brain cells to do something as stupid as her cousin did. But let's leave that topic alone.

"Sounds good.. guess I can catch up with family later. Not like they'll worry or nothin'."

Danie - April 23, 2005 12:52 AM (GMT)
"Merveilleux," Darcy nodded, now grinning. His grin was always a little crooked, like he was only half-decided on whether he was going to laugh about something or not. It made him look like he had daring, secret plans that he'd reveal to you if only you stayed long enough.

He didn't mind that she wouldn't look at him, - it made him wonder if he had something stuck in his teeth or something, but it didn't bother him.
"You like roller coasters, Nienna?" he asked.

Arcane Blood - April 23, 2005 01:03 AM (GMT)
His grin made her smile, a little. She was sort of, perhaps, relieved to be in the company of someone else, as long as they weren't scary (or scary-looking), a stalker, or both. She didn't mind what gender they were, as long as the guys weren't overly perverted, even if they were trying to be funny. It really wasn't funny to Nienna, just sort of scared her. Okay, more than sort of, but she wouldn't admit to that, having a rather sick mind as well. But since she was of the female gender, it was all right to her. It didn't matter if it was a sort of contradiction, or she was being a hypocrite... it made sense to her.

But Darcy was nice. He hadn't asked her for her phone-number yet, he wasn't a stalker, and he wasn't scary or scary-looking, and he was nice. She could deal with that.

"Yeah... except the ones that go upside down, and have those things to secure you in real good... those are kinda bumpy, and give me a real headache," she explained.

Danie - April 23, 2005 01:13 AM (GMT)
He wrinkled his nose. "Mouais, I do not like those ones either, they make me sick to my stomach. Maybe we will just find one that goes fast, but not upside down. And anyway, a roller coaster is no fun unless you 'ave someone screaming along wit you, yes?" Darcy queried, taking a quick glance around them to see if he could remember where they could find a roller coaster.

He scratched his head. His hair was still wet. He imagined that a roller coaster ride - or any fast ride, at the moment - would help to dry it off.

Arcane Blood - April 23, 2005 05:39 PM (GMT)
"Maybe. That'd be good, Darcy." she said with a nod, curling her hand around the edge of her shirt with a gentle, almost supressed sigh. Then there came another weak smile. It was half-forced, half natural. "Yeah, s'true."

She was thinking the same thing, actually. That it'd dry him off... and also sitting next to him might get her a little wet.

Danie - April 23, 2005 09:02 PM (GMT)
"Come on, then," Darcy smiled, starting in the direction of the roller coaster (whose location he had actually managed to remember). He nodded for her to follow along. " 'Urry up. The sooner we are on the ride, the sooner you forget to be gloomy. Is that not right?"
To him, she did look gloomy, or at least was doing a good job of pretending to be. Darcy wouldn't just let that pass.

Arcane Blood - April 23, 2005 09:18 PM (GMT)
Nienna tagged along, her walk just a tad slower than Darcy's... very careful, and almost hesitant. She didn't notice, because she'd grown so accustomed to walking like that. She'd done it most of her life, actually, when not with a close friend, or someone she knew.

"Ah, I guesso."

You're probably being annoying, you idiot... 'kay. Just act normal for once, please, she scolded herself.

Danie - April 23, 2005 09:28 PM (GMT)
He looked at her from the corner of his eye, with a calculating sort of pout on his face. "...If you do not want to, you 'ave only to say so. We could do something else..." he offered. Her rather listless replies were making him wonder what he was doing wrong. "Or I could go do something else. I 'ave forced my company on you, 'ave I not..."

Arcane Blood - April 23, 2005 09:32 PM (GMT)
"Oh, no no no, it's not that. Not that you forced me to at all." This was generally what happened with people, and that's why she opted to stay away from them. Also, because so many of them scared her. "Uhm, I'm just not used to company, is all. S'nothing you did, seriously."

Danie - April 23, 2005 09:38 PM (GMT)
His smile returned. He was in a constant state of smiling when he was with people - some of them found it annoying, actually, but no one had ever told him so.

"Ah, well, that is good to know," Darcy nodded, smirking, Phewf, it's not my fault! "So on to the roller coaster. Euh... why would you not be used to company? There are people all around, and surely you must 'ave friends. Am I right? Or... am I... not?"

Arcane Blood - April 23, 2005 09:51 PM (GMT)
Nienna certainly didn't mind. If he could be happy, good for him. Someone had told her, once, that the people around you set the mood. If someone was happy, it'd be hard to stay morose around them.

"Yeah, on to the roller coaster. And, well, I don't really know. I have a few friends, but I don't see them often. Maybe once a week, or every two weeks. But that's okay, 'cause I bet they have better things to do, anyway." She smiled a little, and looked down at her shirt, with she was still fiddling with.

Danie - April 23, 2005 10:02 PM (GMT)
"I don't see my friends all that often either,... they are busy, I suppose...but that is all the more reason to make new friends. If I keep on doing that, eventually I will never 'ave any time alone... can not say that I would mind it, either," he mused, grinning. "You should try it sometime."

Arcane Blood - April 23, 2005 10:05 PM (GMT)
That made her smile a little bit more. New firends? Darcy had no idea how hard it was for her to make new friends. She was always losing them, one way or another. But he did have a point.

"Well, I'm workin' on it, I guess. This is not a good start?"

Danie - April 23, 2005 10:47 PM (GMT)
He frowned thoughtfully, then looked at her and said teasingly, "I guess it could count. Maybe..."

He grinned. "Ha, of course it is a good start," he said, as they approached the line leading to the rollercoaster. It was fairly long, but not so long that they'd be standing there for an hour waiting for their turn. And not so long that by the time they finally got there, the attendant would say, sorry, it's time for some routine maintenance, come back in an hour.

Arcane Blood - April 23, 2005 11:57 PM (GMT)
"Heh, you had me worried there, for a second." She said it jokingly, but she had really almost meant it.

"Well, ten points for me, then?" She asked, and frowned when they were approaching the line to the roller coaster. "Man, we could be waiting here all day." Then, as an afterthough, "And, oh, the woes of my exaggeration."

Danie - April 24, 2005 12:03 AM (GMT)
"Ten points is fair. I will keep track of your score," he teased, edging out to the side of the line so he could see exactly how long it was, and thereby calculate how long until they got their turn. He frowned, making an 'I'm thinking really hard' face. "...Fifteen minutes, I think. Not more than twenty, at most. But not all day."

He completely missed the irony of her statement, partly because he didn't know what 'woes' meant. 'Exaggeration', he knew, but 'woes'...?

Arcane Blood - April 24, 2005 09:31 PM (GMT)
"I was kidding. I'm just terribly impatient is all." She said, as she glanced at Darcy, and put both hands behind her, so that her palms were resting on a blue rail. "Twenty minutes is a whole lotta forever to me, y'know."
