Title: Barging in on a Bookworm
Description: Again. (For Danie and Sammie)
Cagey Tiger - April 13, 2005 02:27 AM (GMT)
Depending on whether or not she was paying attention, Violet would probably know who was thundering down the hall and bursting into her dorm room without asking or being invited.
She'd been angry before, but in his elation (Alexander would help!) Keye had forgotten.
"C'mon Violet, get Wick. Dr. Barclay's gonna take us to the hospital an' make the doctor forget about treating Wick! So we gotta go, 'kay?"
And there was much mad grinning.
Danie - April 13, 2005 02:39 AM (GMT)
Violet looked up, startled. She could get quite absorbed into her books at times - it was a different book she was reading now, since she'd finished 'The BFG' about half an hour ago. Her first response was, "Would you stop just bursting into the room like that! Are you c-" but stopped herself before she could say 'crazy'.
"...What are you talking about? Wick can't go to a hospital,... " Her face fell, and she shook her head. "He's,... look, maybe it might be good for, say, diagnostic purposes, but I don't, I don't know how taking him to a hospital is gonna help.."
Cagey Tiger - April 13, 2005 02:42 AM (GMT)
"Stitches, antibiotics, operations, blood transfusions..."
He moved over to the desk, looking down at the unconscious little figure inside.
If he were like, say...Alexander, he might be wondering why he was trying so hard to help. After all, Wick hadn't exactly been nice to him, when they'd met.
But he isn't like Alexander. All he feels is concern, and the need to help.
"We gotta at least try, don't we?"
Danie - April 13, 2005 02:48 AM (GMT)
"Y'know, I always figured faeries had their own system - like, they all knew how to magically heal themselves or something. All-natural crap like the stuff you find in health-food stores. Never heard of anything like this happening before,... 'course, I never believed in faeries anyway," Violet mused, following Keye's gaze. She bit her thumbnail - there wasn't much thumbnail left, anymore.
"...Yeah," she said finally. "I guess it's worth it, to give it a try...there's just as much chance that this could screw things up, as help,... but it's worth trying..."
Cagey Tiger - April 13, 2005 02:51 AM (GMT)
"Don't bite your nails. We won't let 'em screw him up."
He pulled her hand away from her mouth, trying on a reassuring smile, despite that he was nervous himself.
"You get him, my hands shake. Dr. Barclay's waiting outside."
Danie - April 13, 2005 03:06 AM (GMT)
She managed a faint smile in return, though it became considerably more fake once he mentioned Dr. Barclay. She didn't say anything about it, though she was certain that the English professor must have some kind of nasty ulterior motive that involved harming Wick.
Violet didn't really have much choice at this point, though. She nodded, and went over to the desk. Frowning, she picked up the unconscious faery, holding him close so she wouldn't drop him or move him about any more than absolutely necessary.
"Okay. Let's go."
Cagey Tiger - April 13, 2005 03:09 AM (GMT)
"How many times I gotta tell you, Violet?"
Alexander would be in earshot by this point, because Keye is leading Violet out of the dorm and towards his car.
"He's okay. I promise. He's not such a bad guy. So don't get too stressed, okay?"
He opened the car door for her, then slipped in himself...into the back seat, by Violet.
SammieK - April 13, 2005 03:13 AM (GMT)
"Hello again, Miss Vendredy."
The smile he's giving the girl is probably not entirely reassuring, in the matter of ulterior motives. He hardly seems to notice the pitiful little bundle in her arms, waving for the both of them to fasten their seat belts and all that.
"Try not to fidget too much, Keye." He's getting used to it, but it still bothers him.
The engine turns over and the car pulls away from the curb, before he really checks to see that they've actually buckled up.
Danie - April 13, 2005 03:23 AM (GMT)
"Hello," she said politely (but not by any more than she could help). She managed to fasten her seatbelt one-handed, and sat back with Wick in her lap. The faery really wasn't looking so well - the part of him that could be seen, anyway. He was wrapped up in a sweater-turned-blanket that hid most of the bandages that had been wrapped around his skinny torso.
"Um, sir... thanks for,... you know,.. the help, and everything..." Violet said timidly, chewing on her lip in between words. All of this was so unreal impossible.
Cagey Tiger - April 13, 2005 03:28 AM (GMT)
Keye's hands turned into a ball of kinesis in his lap, twisting and curling around one another. It was slightly disconcerting, but it kept him from playing with the windows.
He's not comfortable, not at all. Firstly, the level of tension in the car is way too high. Secondly, they're headed to a hospital. Keye hates hospitals.
He appears (as usual? Almost.) to be on the verge of tears, and trembles slightly.
SammieK - April 13, 2005 03:40 AM (GMT)
"You're welcome, Miss Vendredy." Only because he thinks he can grill her and find out who hurt his boy.
Alexander can't see Keye's hands moving around and around each other, but he can see the boy's face in his rearview mirror.
A frown. A glance at Violet. Oh, what the hell. The girl had already seen more than enough to shatter that frigid facade of his--if he was worried about her telling people about his weakness for Keye, he could always make her forget about it.
"At least we aren't going to see Douglas, Keye. Don't be so nervous." He makes the words into a bit of a joke between them, something that the young lady in the back with Keye wouldn't understand.
Probably she wouldn't want to.
He's driving, and Violet's around, so a hug is quite out of the question.
Danie - April 13, 2005 10:14 AM (GMT)
Violet blinked, only mildly surprised by this display. The reason she was surprised was because it was dawning on her that Dr. Barclay might just actually care about Keye, instead of pretending because of some selfish reason. It'd been plain before now that he didn't treat Keye like a student,... but this was different.
He's using his first name - well, he's been doing that for a bit already,... but he's also helping Wick. And he hates Wick, so maybe he's helping just 'cause Keye asked...? she thought, frowning slightly. Oh, well... I don't feel like I can trust Dr. Barclay, but I'll have to. Any friend of Keye's is a friend of mine.
If they have to be.
I guess.
Cagey Tiger - April 13, 2005 06:23 PM (GMT)
"Heh."
He smiled weakly.
"Yeah, I guess it's not so bad. I mean, I've got my favorite people with me."
Unfailingly sweet and sappy, that's Keye. And it only gets worse from here.
"Speaking of that Douglas guy, I think I'll...make him some muffins or something."
Muffins, by the way are the only thing Keye can competently cook.
"Everyone loves muffins."
SammieK - April 13, 2005 07:14 PM (GMT)
"..."
Alexander paused a moment before answering.
"You are not making anything in my kitchen," he said finally. (He's afraid that Keye will blow something up. Or make a really really big mess. Neither of which he particularly wants to deal with.)
Besides. He doesn't think a gift of muffins will do anything to put a dent in the favor that Alexander owes Douglas. He wishes, somewhat, that Douglas would hurry it up and call it in.
I wonder if Keye has any idea that Alexander took on an unspecified favor from a man he very much dislikes for the boy's sake?
Danie - April 13, 2005 07:47 PM (GMT)
Heh. I've never been one of someone's 'favorite people' before, Violet thought, smirking a little. Sweetness was good,... in small doses. She was just as likely as any other girl to coo over a cute furry puppy or a kitten or something... except it couldn't be sickeningly cute. Sickeningly cute things, she reflected sadly, ended up getting squashed.
"...Who's Douglas...? If you don't mind my asking..." she said - the question was meant to sound like it wasn't directed at anyone in particular, but she was looking at Keye when she asked. Maybe Douglas was a friend of his, if he wanted to make muffins for him..
Cagey Tiger - April 13, 2005 11:15 PM (GMT)
"Well..." he pouted a little. "I'll buy some then."
He had no idea that Alexander had asked a favor, or that he and Douglas disliked one another. He thought they were friends, the kind who fight a lot.
And the muffins were never intended to be any form of repayment. Thanks, perhaps, but not repayment.
"Douglas--Dr. Kael--is the doctor who fixed up my eye. So I wanna do something nice for him."
Even though Keye finds him very creepy.
SammieK - April 13, 2005 11:41 PM (GMT)
"I'm sure Douglas would be quite surprised at that," came Alexander's voice. It was hard to tell, but it sounded like he might be holding back laughter. (That, by the way, was true. He was imagining Douglas' reaction to Keye delivering a basket of muffins, complete with a ribbon or something.)
"I'm fairly sure he doesn't expect anything from you." From Alexander, though...
When was the man going to call in that damn favor?
Back to serious topics, though.
"Miss Vendredy, when we reach the hospital, you and Keye will wait in the car. I'll bring a doctor out."
It would be easier to conceal what was going on if they didn't all come in at once.
Danie - April 13, 2005 11:49 PM (GMT)
"Okay," Violet nodded. Staying in the car. Right. That was definitely the best way to do things,... though she wondered how he was going to get a doctor to come out. She was sure they must be busy with appointments and surgeries and things.
((*blink*))
Cagey Tiger - April 13, 2005 11:59 PM (GMT)
"Oh, good!"
Yeah, Keye thinks Alexander is talking about the good, fun kind of surprise.
"It's better if he doesn't expect it. Okay."
Yeah, waiting is good. There were going to be serious problems with bringing Keye inside anyway.
