Title: Cravings
Description: Uh... do you serve fish?

Usually, the arrival of Sedna wasn't really noticable, if she wasn't on an extreme coffee high. Which, as of now, she wasn't. But when the glory of the monotone ring of a bell attached to the frame of the door somehow provoked every eye to look on her. She didn't understand why some people thrived off of mere attention. She hated it; even if it was something plain and simple like this.

But, they all, eerily simotaniously, went back to their little conversations and lunchtime meals.

Sedna flopped onto a barstool, strangely cushiony against the torn and tattered jeans encasing her legs today. She flipped her long, dark hair back out of her eyes, as to have more focus on the menu, even though she already knew what she was ordering.

Coffee and fish sticks.

And speaking of people who thrived off of attention....

Keelin strode into the diner, smiling cheerfully at the faces of dumbfounded people who looked up at her. Keelin was.... dressed as usual.

Oh Dear God.

The girl herself would not have attracted much more than a passing glance from most, perhaps a nod or nothing at all. She was caucasian, but something vaugley Oriental lingered in her almond-shaped black eyes. She was small and skinny, looking as though she ate only when she managed to tear herself away from some novel.

Which was partly true.

But the thing that attracted most people's wandering eyes was her clothing. She wore blindingly bright clothes... Her top was a long lime-green T-shirt, her skirt was short and bright orange. Her legs sported black-and-yellow bumblebee striped stockings that ended with fire engine red goloshes. A lemon yellow scarf was slung around her neck.

Upon her entering the room, some people's jaw dropped.

Sedna was usually not a follower, but she wanted to know what the hell everyone was looking at. She swirled around in her chair, staring rudly at Keelin for about 2.5 seconds, then returning her attention to her menu. The girl's appearance made her examine herself for a moment:

She was wearing, of course, her thrift-store jeans; multiple class rings along with a calladagh one, a sign of her friendship with a girl back in Ireland; a gray t-shirt with famous image of Cookie Monster; a purple blazer; and clunky, enormous black combat boots.

The waitress approached with a generic smile splattered on her face. "What can I do fer ye?"

"Fish sticks and coffee."

"Any... er... flav'rin's?"

"Hazelnut's good for me."

Keelin grinned at the various awed customers, but suddenly, she frowned. Closed her eyes, smelled the air deeply. A smile spread on her face as she opened her eyes, and she looked directly at Sedna.

Selkie.

She crossed the floor quickly, walking past a man who, upon seeing her outfit, dropped his spoon into his bowl, splashing corn chowder onto his companion. She stood at the selkie's table. "Mind if I sit down?" Keelin said in a puckish voice.

"N-No, not at all," Sedna replied with a small, snarky (for lack of a better word) grin spreading like a disease across her facial features. The fish basket and plain white mug filled to the brim with deep brown coffee arrived quickly, and she inhaled the smell, glancing once or twice at Keelin's rainbow-hued aparrel.

She dug in, seal instincts taking over as she ripped the rectangular fish blocks apart with her teeth savagely, not bothering to relish the meat with tarter sauce or ketchup.

Sedna halted her consuming for a moment, realized the awkwardness of her eating habits. "I like fish," she smirked at Keelin, as if that explained everything.

"I can see that." Keelin said, looking at Sedna with a knowing grin. "Not unusual for your type, I supopse. It would be odd if you didn't." She hailed the waitress and ordered a rare steak and a Coke.

Sedna raised an eyebrow, surprised that Keelin would know of such information. As far as she knew, being a Selkie was her little secret. She knew of others, but most did not obtain information about her.

"You mean, as a seal?" she rephrased, taking another bite of the fish, and wiping away a small flake of meat from her chin.

Zhana - October 9, 2004 04:17 AM (GMT)
"From what I've heard, some traits carry over." She leaned back as her food was brought. "I know mine do."

With this, she picked up her fork and knife and sliced open the meat, the blood and juice pooling on the plate.

"Yeah," the twenty-year-old agreed, nodded. "Dumb seal me forces me to eat my fish and swim my swim. Which isn't so bad."

Sedna eyed her companion's steak, a realization coming over her. "You're a..." she trailed. "... werewolf?" she supplied herself, stuffing her face again with more fish blocks.

Keelin nodded happily and took a big bite of steak, swallowing it nearly whole. "Absolutely. Very rescent actually. About three months ago." She paused. "Still getting used to it. Got bit in the park, some guy got loose and came up right behind me. Didn't notice 'till it was too late."

Rusalaka. - October 12, 2004 01:05 AM (GMT)
"Well, I've 'been'," she made quotes with her middle and pointer fingers. "a selkie since I was, like, five. I found a white pelt of fur under my parents' bed, and other than completely weirding me out, it intrigued me. I put it on and shazam! I'm little seal girl." Sedna paused. "I think it was meant for me, it wanted me to find it. But that's just me." she sighed. "God, I have to stop watching those Lord of the Rings movies..."

Keelin's face split into a wolf-like grin and she laughed, somehow managing to show more teeth than natural. "Lucky you. I'm still figuring out about all the crap I have to deal with, before, during, and after changing. Talk about nauseating. I'm far too confused for my liking, I can't help feeling like I should be ready for this, somehow prepared, considering that I spent half my life with my nose in a book..."

Rusalaka. - October 15, 2004 02:14 AM (GMT)
"That's tough shit," Sedna commented, feeling the burn of prying mothers' eyes glaring at her for the use of a swear, but she couldn't help herself. "Me, I don't know much about changing and weres and stuff like that, but I've heard it's like a big supernatural..." she scrambled for a particular word. "... hangover. Headaches, the works. 'Cause that's kinda what happens to me. I need an Advil or something after every time I swim."

Zhana - October 15, 2004 04:07 AM (GMT)
Keelin looked thoughtful. "Y'know, I've never really thought of it that way, but it really does sum it up nicely. Hangover is about the feeling, a sort of tired-headache-nausea-grumpy-ness inducing.... thing." She stopped and looked as though she had confused herself, which was entertaining.
