Title: Lies Can be Dangerous
Description: Especially when dealing with Vampires.
Renata - September 7, 2004 09:29 PM (GMT)
It was early into the night, the sun had just recently gone down, and Jex was standing at the opening of a very large and broken down grave. A crypt, actually. It wasn't so strange to find him in a cemetary. His job consisted of walking up and down the rows of dearly departed and scouting out a singular person.
The moon let down a soft glow that night. It glanced off of nothing on him, though. He wore muted colors, just dark jeans and a solid blue shirt. His hair was combed and in place along side his face, it was long and brown, framing his head perfectly. There was a bandaid around his right thumb where he had bit at it the night before.
You see, the reason he was standing in front of this particular crypt was not part of his job, but rather one of his responsibilities as a friend.
Jex leaned in a little, peering into the darkness. Harsh shadows were thrown against the surviving walls.
He called tentatively, not sure if his friend would be with the sire he spoke of or not. If Morose was, Jex most certainly did not want to wake her.
"Morose?"
((reserved))
oneofmanysouls - September 7, 2004 09:39 PM (GMT)
Enyo was standing in the shadows a bit away from the crypt. She had been getting ready to make her nightly visit to the place she found nights ago to feed at when something caught her eye. Someone walking towards her crypt. She had stopped and turned around to hide in the shadows.
It was obviously a man. She could see his brown hair, dark jeans and solid blue shirt. But that was all she could see of him from where she was hiding. She was going to stay hidden to see what this person wanted and why he was at her crypt. She wasn't pleased about that at all. No one ever came back this far in the cemetary. That was why she'd picked this one over the others.
A frown crossed her face as she watched him lean in a bit. Then she heard him call for Morose. She stayed deep in the shadows so as to not be seen.
"Who are you?" Her voice was a mixture of curiousity, anger and irritation.
Renata - September 7, 2004 10:22 PM (GMT)
Shit, well that ruined that plan.
It startled him, when she answered and not Morose. His eyes filtered over everything in hopes of catching a glimpse of the person most likely watching him. His ears strained to find something that would betray her position, but they found nothing.
"I'm..looking for a friend of mine." He felt a little ill at ease, not being able to see her, knowing that she probably could see ever move he made.
He took a step further into the room, still not sure if Morose was there or not. He turned his head in the general direction he heard her voice from.
"You wouldn't be able to tell me where he is, would you?"
oneofmanysouls - September 7, 2004 10:35 PM (GMT)
And see every move he made she indeed did see. Her frown deepened as she watched him step further into her crypt.
"Are you sure that's really a good idea? That is my home after all."
Her voice came from a different direction now. Off to his right side. When she was talking to someone through the shadows like this she didn't like to stay in one place. It made her too easily found. She prefered to keep them on their toes by moving around them. She liked to taunt people in that way.
"I don't know where he is right now. He's free to come and go as he pleases."
Renata - September 7, 2004 10:49 PM (GMT)
Heh, heh...wonderful. Now he was in the dark with a strange woman who had turned his best friend from a happy and somewhat normal human into something he hated. If Morose did ever end up dying for lack of blood, Jex would come after his sire himself.
But right now, he was in a crypt with a vampire who was most likely hungry. He could trust Morose, but this lady...he wasn't sure of at all.
"Well, thank you for your time, but I really must be going, I've got places to go, hospitals to clean.."
oneofmanysouls - September 7, 2004 10:55 PM (GMT)
Unknown to this male who dared come to her crypt she had no intentions nor desire to drink from him. At any other time in her life she wouldn't have hesitated. But since Morose...she hadn't drank from a single person.
She moved yet again but this time her 5 foot 4 inch frame appeared out of the shadows but a mere 5 feet behind him. She was wearing her black sneakers, black jeans and a black tank top. Her tattoo clearly visible. Her loooong red hair pulled back into a pony tail. Her bright green eyes never leaving him.
"Going so soon? You come and peek into my crypt and then try to leave as if it were nothing?"
Renata - September 7, 2004 11:15 PM (GMT)
He spun around at the sound of her voice so near to him. He hadn't expected to be so close and now his exit was blocked. He stood back from her, a ways.
He wasn't the best person to deal with stressful situations. For instance when he found out about Morose he nearly tore his hair out and tore off his nail. Though that was only because Morose practically told him that he was going to kill himself, but still, it was stressful. So right then, his mind was in a frenzy. He also didn't do well in closed in spaces. Not claustrophobic, if you will, simply wary of being kept in a room with a potentially life threatening person got to him.
"Well you see, ma'am, I really just came here to find Morose. I'm sure you're lovely company, but I'm a little busy right now.."
He wasn't...not really, just liked to think so. But there was nothing he could do but try to hide the fear from his eyes and wait for her to move. That is, if she decided to move.
oneofmanysouls - September 7, 2004 11:21 PM (GMT)
She laughed a bit at the scent of nervousness that he gave off.
"What's wrong? Afraid I'm going to bite you?"
Her voice was a bit taunting. Her mind wandered to Morose for a moment and wondered where he was. He had risen before she did so she really didn't have a clue. She hadn't meant to fall asleep but she did and slept soundly which was odd for her to do since she never did that.
Renata - September 7, 2004 11:32 PM (GMT)
He laughed with her, trying to convince himself that everything was going to be ok. He'd heard her voice taunting him and he tried to keep himself calm.
Jex was still laughing when he answered her, "Hah ha ha, yes."
He was, in all truth. He backed up a bit out of natural habit. The contrast of the moon and the darness inside of her "home" obscured her from view and all he could see was her eyes glowing eerily in the blackness.
There was a little silence after his answer, and he didn't like the feel of it, so he nervously struck up a conversation.
"So," he coughed, "lovely night, isn't it?"
oneofmanysouls - September 7, 2004 11:40 PM (GMT)
She stopped laughing upon hearing him laughing. He reeked of nervousness and it was making her a bit illish feeling. That was one scent she never has ever grown used to. But she began laughing again when he admitted that he was scared that she was going to bite him.
"You're not my type," she said point blank and serious sounding. Her laughing stopped as quickly as it started. Had this been nights ago she wouldn't have hesitated to pounce and kill. But since Morose had left that one night she hadn't had any desire to taste human blood.
"I suppose it is," she replied to his comment about the night.
Renata - September 7, 2004 11:59 PM (GMT)
"Yeah, it is..."
He wasn't looking at the sky. His eyes were sort of unfocused. He wasn't thinking about the sky, the night, or even her. He was looking at her though, she was kind of in his direct line of sight.
He was slightly troubled. As long as he was here, he might as well get some things figured out, right?
"Um..if you don't mind my asking..why did you turn Morose? It's not exactly something he's enjoying. And...you don't exactly seem like the kind of person who would emotionally damage someone without a purpose.."
So maybe she was, he had only met her five minutes ago. He wasn't sure what her response would be: angry, guilty, upset. He knew he was taking a huge gamble.
oneofmanysouls - September 8, 2004 12:08 AM (GMT)
She grinned slightly at his question. She had a feeling that he would aske her that. She stared at him for a few moments before she backed out of the doorway to let him come outside. She wasn't going to attack him. She already told him that.
"Why do you want to know?" Her responce was empty of emotions at the moment. She was trying to get a feel from the guy before she'd answer any of his questions. "I don't even know your name. I'm sure you know mine since you know that I'm the one that turned Morose."
Renata - September 8, 2004 02:19 AM (GMT)
He walked around her and into the moonlight. Jex still kept his eyes on her, still wary. Her questions made him angry at her. She was the one who turned him without even knowing him. Jex was only trying to get a grasp of a situation that was still mind boggling to him.
"Why do you think?" he replied shortly, but still retaining a tight control over his emotions. He didn't know her, there was no way he would show her more than he needed to.
"He's my best friend. You changed him into what he is and left him to fend for himself. He knows nothing about what he's supposed to be other than superstitions."
Jex wouldn't give her his name. Not yet, most likely not ever.
oneofmanysouls - September 8, 2004 02:23 AM (GMT)
A flash of anger crossed her eyes.
"I did not leave him to fend for himself! Do not ever accuse me of that! He is the one who left here! If he hadn't have come back this morning when he did then he would have been left alone and fending for himself!"
Her voice a hiss and angry. How dare he accuse her of leaving Morose alone. She's not the one who had walked away in anger.
Renata - September 8, 2004 03:02 AM (GMT)
It wasn't Jex's fault for thinking like he did. He'd never gotten the full details of what happened. By the time Jex learned as much as he knew, he was emotionally exhausted and had been ordered to go to bed. Which he did. Gladly.
Part of the reason he was here at all was to inform Morose that he had gotten the heaviest curtains he could find. He now needed a flashlight to get through the apartment without bumping into everything.
"All I know is what he told me when he said that he was going to die. He had a will made and everything. I just want to know what made him so desperate."
His tone was cold, making it very clear that if he had the strength, Jex would not be opposed to killing her.
oneofmanysouls - September 8, 2004 03:07 AM (GMT)
"That is of his own doing then. It is his own choice if he plans to allow himself to die. It is because of him that I can't even force myself to bite anything living any longer! I sneek into a fucking livestock slaughter house and drink fresh blood from a damn barrel like a mortal drinking from a keg of beer!"
She was pissed off and shouting. Her voice full of her anger but yet if one paid close attention they could hear the pain...the emptiness...the loneliness.
"As I said, if it weren't for him coming here this morning when he did right before the sun came into view I wouldn't even be standing here. I was going to watch just one more sunrise."
Renata - September 9, 2004 01:19 AM (GMT)
Of course, Jex registered none of what she had just said. The words that he caught were "fresh blood" and "slaughter house."
This was fantastic! The solution to all of their problems! Now he wouldn't have to hurt himself(as he was planning to do) to keep Morose alive and Morose didn't have to kill anyone to do it! It wasn't as if Jex was looking forward to cutting himself, but if it was what it took to keep his friend alive he would have done it.
His face broke into a brilliant smile and if it weren't for the fact that he was still somewhat afraid of her, he'd have swept Enyo into a hug for how happy he was.
"Where is it?!"
There wasn't a moment to lose. He had to find Morose and tell him of the slaughter house, post haste!
oneofmanysouls - September 9, 2004 01:23 AM (GMT)
She stared at him with confusion written all over her face.
"What?" She was seriously confused.
"Didn't you hear a damn thing I just fuckin said?" And pissed off.
(meh...shitty post...so sorry :aww: )
Renata - September 9, 2004 01:30 AM (GMT)
((don'tcha worry 'bout it))
He waived it off. Of course he had heard what she said. He only remembered what he wanted to.
"Yeah, yeah, I heard every word. Something about a standing keg of sunrise, right, I got it. Now about that slaughter house you were talking about."
Now, Jex was normally a very perceptive person. He's keen to the emotions of others. Obviously, he seemed to have forgotten. Otherwise, there was no way in his right mind that he would knowingly provoke an angered woman.
oneofmanysouls - September 9, 2004 01:41 AM (GMT)
Something about a standing keg of sunrise, right, I got it.
Anger flashed in her eyes at this point. One thing she absolutely hated was being ignored and brushed off as this one was basically doing.
"Fuck the slaughter house!" she shouted at him. She turned from him and began to storm away.
Renata - September 9, 2004 01:51 AM (GMT)
His brief moment of joy was overshadowed by the surprise and slight panic he experienced at her outburst. If she were to walk away, he'd never get the location of the barrels of fresh blood.
Then again, he also felt guilty. He didn't know the exact reason, but he must have done something wrong. Plus, her voice was something that probably made grown men(something he wasn't sure he was yet) quiver in fear. He liked to think that since he wasn't a grown man, he didn't have to quiver in fear quite yet.
"Huh?" was his ever intelligent reply.
oneofmanysouls - September 9, 2004 01:58 AM (GMT)
Huh?
She spun around on her heel and glared at him. Anger shooting from her eyes. If this had been days prior she wouldn't have hesitated to kill him just from the sheer joy of killing.
"Aren't we the little idiot?" Her voice deadly soft and angelic. Her brittish accent oh so strong as it usually was when she was quite pissed off as she is right now.
She began to stalk oh so slowly towards him. She wanted to scare him and scare him good. Maybe then he'd pay attention to what she was saying next time.
Renata - September 9, 2004 02:10 AM (GMT)
He didn't like that look in her eyes...or the way she was walking...
"Aren't we the little idiot?" He most definately did not like that tone of voice...
All he had to do was back away slowly. If he did that, maybe she wouldn't see him and would walk away...yeah, that was it...back away into a wall, smart one there, Jex.
"N-no.." His voice squeeked. Was that puberty or fear?
oneofmanysouls - September 9, 2004 02:20 AM (GMT)
She let out her eery angelic sounding laugh as she watched the kid back into a wall. She continued to stalk towards him. She stopped when she was about 3 feet away. Her angry eyes locked with his.
"For one who's not the little idiot you sure act like one don't you." Not a question. A statement.
"Shall we back way up then since you didn't seem to hear a damn thing I had said to you? Only this time you shall pay close attention."
Her voice continuing with it's deadly soft and angelic tone.
"You accused me of leaving Morose to fend for himself. Do you remember that? Think really hard now. You never know if your life is or isn't depending on correct answers with me."
Renata - September 9, 2004 02:35 AM (GMT)
Calm down, Jex. Remember, the eyes are the window to the soul....her soul's reeeaaallly mad...
But his character wouldn't let him be completely intimidated by her superiority. It would be an insult to people who got cornered by vampires everywhere. If he let her push him around, what sort of examples would that set for other mortals? Life saving ones, Jex, remember, life saving examples.
His eyes closed off the emotion he was strongly feeling at the moment and he straitened his back, he would not cower in fear.
"I remember fine. I got a little distracted after that, though."
Jex, ever the defiant one.
oneofmanysouls - September 9, 2004 02:41 AM (GMT)
She laughed at his show of sudden bravery as he straightened his back.
"Well then I shall repeat myself this ONE time only just for you. But keep in mind...I am not one to be ignored. You never know what I might or might not do."
Her angry eyes still glaring into his.
"I said that is of his own doing then. It is his own choice if he plans to allow himself to die. It is because of him that I can't even force myself to bite anything living any longer!"
She deliberately left out this time about the slaughter house.
Renata - September 9, 2004 02:51 AM (GMT)
"Yeah, I got that one." He repeated, annoyed with her. Though by all rights, it was the other way around.
"I'm proud of you, I really am."
Without realizing it, Jex was blocking almost all of his fear by now. He couldn't afford to be frightened in her presence. There was a good chance that he would collapse, shaking once he got out of her senses range.
This was both a good thing and a bad thing. One, being that he won't break down and be a complete push over. He needed to retain some sort of pride. The second being that because he was blocking his fear, he was saying things without worrying about the reprucussions. He was sarcastic when he was scared, not a good combination.
"But you said something about fresh blood, I need to know where you found it."
oneofmanysouls - September 9, 2004 02:58 AM (GMT)
"Oh I'm so sure you are," she answered back sarcastically to him as she rolled her eyes. Her glaring eyes returning to his.
She didn't like this 'air' to him that he suddenly had. She didn't trust it. She didn't trust him. She trusted no one...except one...sort of. She crouched down slightly and with the gracefulness of a cat she leapt atop of the building that belonged to the wall he was backed up against. She liked this angle much better.
But you said something about fresh blood, I need to know where you found it.
"Oh and please do tell me why I should tell you?" she answered with the same sarcastic tone in her voice as before. This time she was looking down at him from atop the building.
Renata - September 9, 2004 03:09 AM (GMT)
She had moved almost faster than it was possible to follow because he had to turn around to do so. He backed away from the building so that he could have an unobstructed view.
He found his answer to her queation painfully obvious.
"Because I have a fettish with blood, what do you think? I'm going to find Morose and tell him. Aren't you the one with the conscience?"
Jex, when he is in this state, doesn't know the meaning of "stop when you're ahead"...considereing he still has a head...
Massacist - September 9, 2004 05:32 AM (GMT)
((Someone PM me whenever I'm suposed to come in???Or if I'm suposed to come in...))
oneofmanysouls - September 9, 2004 03:55 PM (GMT)
Aren't you the one with the conscience?
She hissed at him. Her fangs now fully visible as she did so. Her fangs were never visible unless she was bored or...angered. And angered she indeed was.
"You still haven't given me your name fool. Or shall I just call you 'fool'? 'Idiot' sounds quite nice as well."
Renata - September 10, 2004 02:12 AM (GMT)
Damnit, Jex! Stop before you get yourself hurt!
He couldn't help it. He was just like that when he was scared...really scared.
The look of those sharp teeth glinting agaist the moonlight didn't help with his state of mind, at all. Her voice sounded low and preparing for attack. The damn boy just kept provoking her.
His eyes hardened and he began to back away. In a moment, he would begin sprinting away, go back to the apartment and wait for Morose. Of course, she would out run him in a matter of a few short moments, but desperation overrode rationality.
oneofmanysouls - September 10, 2004 02:22 AM (GMT)
She watched him starting to back away.
"Oh. Are we going somewhere? Come on. Just tell me your name for cryin out loud."
With a sigh she hopped down off of the building. She stuck out her hand and seemed to have regained herself just like that.
"I am Enyo as I'm sure you have already figured out by now."
Renata - September 10, 2004 02:29 AM (GMT)
His heart was hammering in his chest and he was slowly slipping out of his petrified stage. His shakey hand reached over and grasped her own to shake.
"Jex."
It was pretty much all he could say, now that he'd lost his bravado.
He'd let go of her hand and sat on the mossy ground. His back rested against a headstone as he regained control of his breathing.
oneofmanysouls - September 10, 2004 02:34 AM (GMT)
She shook his hand and released it quickly before he could say something about her icy touch.
Jex.
"See now that wasn't so hard now was it?"
She watched as he sat down on the ground and rested his back against a tombstone.
"So. Now tell me. Why are you here looking for Morose? I figured he'd gone looking for you."
Renata - September 10, 2004 02:42 AM (GMT)
She didn't know what she was talking about, of course it was difficult to give her his name...Give him a break, he was scared a fourth out of his wits.
He was better now, though. He looked at her without any semblance of fear within him or in his eyes.
"I was looking for him to let him know that I'd gotten the curtains. Plus we need to get going on the cemetaries again. I'm not sure that either of us have been to one in the last few days."
He looked around him, noticing the irony of his statement. Well, he had meant a new one, but it was funny all the same. But he noticed something else. The more expensive monuments almost all had religious symbols on them.
"You're not allowed on hallowed ground, right? Or am I missing something?"
oneofmanysouls - September 10, 2004 02:53 AM (GMT)
She watched him sitting there and thought that maybe it would make him a bit more comfortable if she was doing the same. So she sat and leaned against her crypt.
"Ah ok. Well. Like I said. He was gone before I had risen. So I am not sure where he went. I assumed he had gone looking for you."
She ignored the curtain comment but forgot to hide the pain that flashed in her eyes. She remembered that Morose had said he was going to go stay at the apartment.
She followed Jex's gaze around and knew what he was going to ask before he could ask it.
You're not allowed on hallowed ground, right? Or am I missing something?
"Clear back here where we are there weren't many of those things that affect us. The few that were I was able to pay someone to have them removed so to speak. As for being on 'hallowed ground' most cemetaries really aren't considered 'holy ground' because anyone and everyone can be buried in them."
Renata - September 10, 2004 03:19 AM (GMT)
"Oh."
It made sense, he supposed. But anyone can be blessed too, right? Oh well, it wasn't important. Strange, he would normally argue that point.
Jex missed the look of sadness in her eyes. He wasn't paying attention that closely, but out of habit looking at the names that littered the stone around them. This, of course, lead to Morose. Where would he have gone?
"Where did he go?" it was whispered almost unconciously.
oneofmanysouls - September 10, 2004 03:27 AM (GMT)
Where did he go?
She rolled her eyes at this point. She suddenly felt like a broken record.
"Let's do this one more time. He was gone before I rose tonight. I don't know where he went. I assumed he was going looking for you."
Speaking about him made her thoughts go return to him saying he was going to be staying at his apartment. He said he'd be back though. But still. She was to be alone tomorrow once more. She sighed a sigh that was full of sadness before she could stop herself. Her eyes still reflected that sadness.
Renata - September 11, 2004 02:32 AM (GMT)
Now that he was fully coherant, Jex could appreciate her sarcasm without some of his own.
"That's not what I meant and you know it."
Though he wasn't above being slightly annoyed with her 'superior' tones. But those tones only effect one of the senses. The ears didn't have much relation with his eyes when he looked up into Enyo's. He couldn't have missed the look in them this time.
He was nearly sorry that he kept bringing it up, but one of the ways to deal with something is through repition.
"Do you care for him? I mean, is that why you changed him?"
He wanted to know, and he had a good bet that she needed to face it.
