Title: Cotton Candy
Description: Shades of Summer
Wysteria - August 20, 2004 10:57 PM (GMT)
Summer just isn't complete with a trip to the Amusement Park.
It certainly isn't complete without cotton candy. Faunus himself can attest to that- his craving for cotton candy, if you can call it that, brought him here, to circulate in the bubbling masses, stand in line for hours, and then, finally, enjoy some well-earned cotton candy.
Yes, he could have done it in a simpler way. But being a god is all about ritual, and this is one of the most powerful at this point in time. So he samples his cotton candy (it's blue) judiciously and enjoys every minute of it.
In honor of the blueness, he's wearing cutoffs, blue sandals and a tight navy blue shirt.
You will never see Faunus in something with sleeves. Enough said.
He's leaning against a fence, evidencing enjoyment of the snack with every expression that's passed his face.
He's been eating the same cotton candy for over an hour. There are advantages to being a god.
ooc: Gods, chores. I'll be back as soon as possible for a quick reply, but meh.
Renata - August 20, 2004 11:19 PM (GMT)
Unfortunately for many people, summer at the amusement park means crowds and crowds means pick-pockets.
Nancy, was not "some people." She very much enjoyed the crowds. They provided nice choosings and camoflauge. Though one can't be sure how much they provided her with, if her not-summerish clothing is taken into account.
Honestly, one stands out when one is wearing knee-high toe socks with flip-flops. She had on a purple kilt, too, complete with furry little bag in the front. Fred was on her head as was normal, and her maroon sleeve-less top was on her chest(amazing).
Her parents and her brother had each gone off in search of their own personal legends at the park. So she was all alone and a danger to the crowd.
Time to start picking, and she'd start with that fat guy over there(they were easy targets). She used her telepathic abilities to lift it slightly from his pocket, slowly so no one would notice.
It fell to the ground with a plop and she picked it up, taking out a few bills and then running up to the man to replace it.
"I'm sorry, sir. You dropped your wallet."
It was returned and she went to get some cotton candy.
Wysteria - August 20, 2004 11:23 PM (GMT)
Faunus really couldn't care less about money or the ownership thereof. But at the moment he's attuned to the want for cotton candy, and so his attention does pause on the girl, for a little while.
ooc: Would write more, but gah, parents. Back as soon as possible. I'll edit this if you want, then.
ic, later: His evaluation of her is reserved. She's enjoying herself, which is definitely a plus. She's a child, which is definitely a plus. But there are other children, and other people enjoying themselves. She isn't special enough to warrant his attention, quite yet. So he just watches her with blue-green eyes from underneath his coppery curls, not doing much but lick methodically at his cotton candy.
Renata - August 20, 2004 11:25 PM (GMT)
Who to trick next? She was going for a little more variety this time, more of a challenge. There were plenty of people to pick from, but each of them were too easy.
Nancy looked around, her cotton candy nearly gone, and noticed the same man that had been standing there earlier with the same amount of sugary fluff.
Was that normal?
In any case, he was sure to provide some entertainment. Plus, his back was to a fence and he was most likely to feel it slip. This would take some fancy footwork.
So she went up to him, innocent look perfectly in place, and started talking.
"Hi!" She licked her cotton candy and looked up at him with wide eyes.
Wysteria - August 21, 2004 01:31 AM (GMT)
He smiled at her in a distance way, trying to seem friendly without going for the serial killer look. "Hello. I see I'm not the only one who likes cotton candy."
Still, she didn't hold all his interest. She was just one of the crowd, just now. His eyes flickered to a man in green, a woman in a flowing skirt, a sticky little boy with a slice of watermelon, and finally back to the little girl.
Renata - August 21, 2004 01:35 AM (GMT)
Well, he was distracted, that was for sure(which was a key element in theivery). But, the focus of the distraction had to be her, so it could be clear that she was innocent of all charges.
"What'cha doin'?" The classic childish question that was sure to get him distracted on her soon enough.
She began on the pull, though, loosening the pocket around his wallet just slightly.
Wysteria - August 21, 2004 01:53 AM (GMT)
That, sure enough, caught his attention, and by that I mean the telekenesis. He isn't about to care about a curious child. They are everywhere and get into everything.
Telekenesis, however, is more interesting. Since she's trying so hard, he obliged her by creating a wallet for himself, complete with a one hundred dollar bill. It's in his back pocket, where a mortal might keep one such.
Of course, it would turn emerald green the moment human fingers touched it. Just because he can.
Renata - August 21, 2004 02:03 AM (GMT)
He wasn't paying attention to her. Well, poo. So, having finished her cotton candy and thus thrown it away, she tugged on his arm.
She looked up at him, a little scowl on her face, "What'cha doin'?"
Her mind caught a snag, something that seemed out of place, but she brushed it off. Instead, his pocket stretched a little more and his wallet slid up a little ways. Had he been mortal, he wouldn't have felt a thing.
Wysteria - August 21, 2004 02:12 AM (GMT)
She too needed something to distract her, he decided. "Eatin', little lady. Enjoying the weather. Don't you just love the summer?" He asked everyone that. It was a habit, a tradition, a ritual.
Well, things were shaping up to be fun. What would the child do next, he wondered.
Renata - August 21, 2004 02:19 AM (GMT)
Still she clung to his arm, having fun. She nodded enthusiastically at his question and answered with one of her own, swishing her kilt like the little girl she was pretending to be.
"Why?"
The wallet slipped up a little more, hid from the public by shadows and a fence.
Wysteria - August 21, 2004 02:29 AM (GMT)
"It's sunny. Isn't that enough reason?" He nibbled cotton candy, in no hurry.
ooc: He can't really do much until she finishes. Put the rest of the steal into your next post? :tilt:
Renata - August 21, 2004 02:36 AM (GMT)
((righto, old chap!))
And it was free! Nancy wasn't really concentrating on the conversation at the moment.
She giggled a little and hugged the guy's arm. One of her arms slipped behind him cautiously to grab the wallet she had almost successfully pulled. It wasn't over yet, she still had to get the money out and the wallet back.
Her hand closed over the wallet with the aide of her abilities. Yes, almost done.
Wysteria - August 21, 2004 03:11 PM (GMT)
He looked at her, blinking slowly. "You're a persistent little thing, aren't you." Not quite a question, though it was phrased as one.
Faunus admires persistence. Slow and steady turns the racetrack into a forest. Forests are nice.
Renata - August 21, 2004 05:19 PM (GMT)
She tilted her head, childish to the last. Her smile faltered a little, but was back in place too quick to notice.
"What's that mean, mister?" Play it cool, play it safe.
She evened the wallet in the air and searched for the bills with her hand, trying to be discrete. Strange, she only found one. That made things more complicated. One or two bills might not be noticed missing, but the only one a person had was another problem completely.
The entire pull nagged at her mind. It was getting too slow for her comfort. Only one bill and her face readily identifiable. This wasn't a good idea, she should back off before she gets caught. But Nancy didn't listen to her ideas.
The bill was now in her hand.
Wysteria - August 21, 2004 05:33 PM (GMT)
And the bill was now bright, shining, emerald green.
"Persistence? It means stubborn, not about to stop for any reason, hard to dissuade from something." He has a helpful face on as he licks his fingers, one at a time, getting traces of blue from them.
His cotton candy is still there, still blue, still fully round and ready to be eaten. Just like it was ten minutes ago.
Renata - August 21, 2004 06:24 PM (GMT)
Nancy noticed the cotton candy. She noticed it when she first set her sights on him and she noticed it now.
Strange
Now she had to figure out how to get the money into the little furry pouch on her front without being noticed.
Something to grab his attention, something to distract..aha! That works!
She used her mind to start the cotton vendor down the walkway, and as it reached them it was zooming past.
She snuck a peak at the god, would it distract him?
Wysteria - August 21, 2004 08:47 PM (GMT)
He watched it go, quite willing to play along. He wanted to see her reaction to his 'money' after all.
"Understand?" Persistence, that is.
Renata - August 22, 2004 02:53 AM (GMT)
"Huh?" seems she distracted herself, this time. She nodded, though she didn't know why she was agreeing, or what she was agreeing to. "Oh, yes."
While he was distracted by her diversion(she had only just remembered that she made the cart run away) she turned towards the fence and opened her pouch.
She went to put the money in her pouch only to drop it and let out a squeak. It was glowing!
Wysteria - August 22, 2004 12:35 PM (GMT)
"Something wrong?" He looked at her, attention seemingly caught by her sound, and caught sight of his glowing 'present'. The cotton candy fiasco forgotten, Faunus bent.
He picked the green paper up, waving it in the air with one hand. "Now this is what I call persistence." He glanced at the girl, gaze unreadable. "Don't you agree?"
Renata - August 22, 2004 12:49 PM (GMT)
She looked up at him, stupefied. This was his doing!
"I-how-what?"
What more could she say? She did the tricking, now that it was turned on her, she had no idea what to do.
Wysteria - August 22, 2004 12:56 PM (GMT)
"You had to distract me, I counted twice, use your mind two times, and you really should have enjoyed that cotton candy more."
Ooookay, that was random. But Faunus has a thing for teasing girls, no matter the age- guys are more likely to annoy him, but girls are another matter. He just annoys them right back.
Maybe it has something to do with the female penchant to always be doing something, despite the time of year. Guys are slightly more likely to be doing nothing, even when they mean to finish a task.
"You didn't balk until this little trick. That's persistence. Get it?" Yes, he's still teaching her the meaning of persistence. He sticks to things like that.
Renata - August 22, 2004 01:06 PM (GMT)
She liked that cotton candy. It was tasty and...fluffly. But why didn't he just stop her? What was the entire point of it?
"If you knew what I was doing..why did you let me do it? I mean, really, that was just rude. At least you could have let me know, jerk."
She was confused(not to mention a little upset)..she'd never been stopped or found out before. It was a blow to her pride.
Wysteria - August 22, 2004 01:21 PM (GMT)
"Don't feel bad. I'm special." Arrogant, wasn't he. "Didn't you rush your cotton candy just a little? It's there to be enjoyed, y'know. Not rushed over. And you still haven't answered the question about persistence." Faunus was a pretty good example of it himself, eh?
He chuckled then, a rich, bassy sound. "You were having so much fun, though. I didn't want to spoil it for you."
Renata - August 22, 2004 01:33 PM (GMT)
Oh goodness, this man was annoying. Where did he get the right to talk to her like that? Granted, she was a thirteen-year-old-girl(they don't have many rights other than the basics), but this was just mean!
"Different people enjoy their cotton candy in different ways. You can't rush your cotton candy experience, just as you can't slow down mine."
Her hands fisted on her hips, and she did decide to answer his question, "I know what persistance is, you don't have to tell me, I'm not a six-year-old little girl."
She was still a little miffed at him, "Why shouldn't you ruin my fun? You did when you gave me that fake money."
Wysteria - August 22, 2004 01:50 PM (GMT)
He sighed, looking put upon. People always wanted him to do things.
The fact that he never did them was besides the point.
"Fine. Don't want fake money? Here." Faunus reached in the front pocket of his cutoffs and pulled out a twenty and held it out. No tricks. Well. One trick.
It can only be used here, in the park. That'll carry over even to the change that comes out of it. If she takes it. Touch-activated again.
Renata - August 22, 2004 02:14 PM (GMT)
She looked at the twenty, not trusting it to not be another trick. This man had tricked her once, why not again?
Her untrusting eyes went up to his. Why did he do this?
"How did you know all about me? How did you make that money just appear and why the hell was it glowing?"
She was just full of questions, wasn't she?
Wysteria - August 22, 2004 02:28 PM (GMT)
He blinked at her, too busy relaxing to correct her. Well. Mostly. "I didn't make it appear. It was in my pocket." Faunus continued to look artfully put upon.
And now it was time to lie. "I keep a dummy wallet in that pocket. I've always wanted to catch a pickpocket in the act. Sortof like a hobby, I guess."
Again with the not answering all her questions. He'll get to it later. Maybe.
Renata - August 22, 2004 02:36 PM (GMT)
"Well then why did you feel it. I was careful, you shouldn't have been able to catch me! How did you know that I did that with my mind?!"
Right, so it was safe to say that she was getting a little ticked off. Her hands still firmly rested on her hips and her eyes narrowed into(what she hoped) was a dangerous and warning look.
There was no way she was going to take that potentially dangerous thing.
Wysteria - August 22, 2004 02:43 PM (GMT)
He really didn't interprete it as dangerous. Cute and fierce, maybe, but not enough to be taken seriously. "I'm special, remember?" He had told her that, earlier.
With a drawn out sigh, he tossed the bill into the air. It fluttered, caught on the wind, and slowly began to spiral down towards the ground.
It touched down. No flash of light, no explosion, no nothing. Just a twenty. Take it or leave it.
Renata - August 22, 2004 02:45 PM (GMT)
Damn her kleptomania, damn it to hell. Why couldn't she just leave it? Don't give in to it, don't take it! Don't--too late, she took it.
Wysteria - August 22, 2004 02:47 PM (GMT)
He grinned at her, expression amused in a more than a bit cruel way.
He's a god, not a nice person.
"Buy something nice with that, hear? I think there's watermelon...." His tone was oh-so-helpful. Very, very helpful. Sickenly helpful, almost.
Renata - August 22, 2004 02:54 PM (GMT)
"I don't like watermelon."
Alright, so she did(especially when it had salt on the top), but she wasn't going to go get some just because he told her to.
Grr, she was getting so frustrated! Why was this guy doing this? But, she wasn't a good actress for nothing.
She put on a little smile. Twidled her fingers. "Umm, but what about pie? I like apple pie."
Wysteria - August 22, 2004 02:58 PM (GMT)
"Ever tried watermelon with salt? It's much better than watermelon plain." Yes, yes, reading her mind, or at least the part pertaining to summer. Quite bad of him.
"Look. I'll explain when you're older, okay? I don't think you'd understand at your age." He straightened from his prolonged lean and started ambling off in the direction of the water rides. Water rides = fun. "And have pie in winter. That's what winter's for." A parting shot, if she doesn't follow him.
Renata - August 22, 2004 03:05 PM (GMT)
"But what about Apple Pie on the Fourth of July? That's summery."
She skipped after him, hating it, and once she caught up slowed down to walk with him. The water park, good, she had her suit on under her clothes.
"Besides, winter's for hot chocolate and snowball fights. And sometimes, if there's enough snow, you can make snowmen. But pie, that's for the summer. And ice cream, too."
Wysteria - August 22, 2004 03:20 PM (GMT)
He thought about it, eyebrows wrinkling. "You have a point there... at least about the ice cream. I'm not quite sure I'll give you the apple pie, though. Other kinds of pie, yes, but apples are more of a fall and winter thing. Unless they're small and you can throw them at people...." He trailed off, muttering to himself. She did have a point. Smart girl.
Renata - August 22, 2004 03:25 PM (GMT)
"Alright, so there is cider and apple butter and apple sauce, but it's still integrated with summer."
She found a lounge chair in front of the wave pool and took off her clothes in favor of the one piece underneath. Her kilt was safe, she would know if anyone touched it. Fred stayed firmly on her head.
"Come on, let's go to the wave pool. And you can't take my apple pie away from me."
Wysteria - August 22, 2004 03:29 PM (GMT)
He sighed, flashed her a grin, and took off his shirt.
Yes, he's going swimming in his shorts. "After you, lil'lady."
ooc: >.> Describe a wave pool? *has only ever been to a water park once, and has forgotten most of it*
Renata - August 22, 2004 03:39 PM (GMT)
So she did, Nancy waded into the water and a small wave splashed into her. She kept going in further, until she had to jump with the waves and not get pulled under.
"Come on! It's fun!" She seemed to have forgotten all about her earlier mistrust of him.
Wysteria - August 22, 2004 03:51 PM (GMT)
He followed without another word, playing with the water without a care in the world. Wave, splash, wave.
His cutoffs had turned in swim trunks somewhere along the way. They're shiny in a slightly metallic way, but they're still blue. Electric blue, to be precise.
Renata - August 22, 2004 03:57 PM (GMT)
Nancy was having a grand time. She was just turned to smile at the god, when she noticed something peculiar.
There were vines growing on him. They weren't real, she could tell, but they were blooming and moving..
She had gotten distracted and did not jump when the next wave came, so it bowled her over and pushed her into him.
