A young girl, about mid teens was wandering around the shop, looking at practicly every book, it was saturday, so she had the day off. She joyed in books, novels and spellbooks mostly. Looking up, she seemed to have spotted what she wanted, but it was much out of reach. She looked in all directions, making sure no-one was watching, and the book floatd nicly into her arms.
It was a particulary large one, and by the looks of it, no spring chicken. The girl sat at a table, and propped open the book. A cloud of dust escaped it. It caused a small cloud to appear, that smelled of mothballs. As soon as it let up, she buried her nose into it.
In a shadowed corner across the way, a huge, bearded man sat hunched over a tattered old paperback. His index finger ran under every word as he read it aloud, slowly. Even when this man whispered his words were deep and clear.
"It was a... tangible thing, for... I was aware of... the... coolness of... the... air flowing in... through the open... window as... contrast."
His eyebrows arched. "Contrast?"
He returned to the passage. "The app... appreh... apprehension... of evil, of terror and loathing, settled like a... cloud... in the room. I felt... it... pour from the... walls like... inv-invisible... fog..."
she winced a little at the sounds of someone struggling to read. It was begining to bug her. But she tried to ignore it...
"It was a... struggle... against some... something invisible which... which ha... which had twice the force of... a... p... pis.... physical opponent; and... in returning to my room... I realised... that I... was... hesitant to sleep, lest... in that... sleep... I... become... prey to that... ins.... insid... insidious.... Insidious?"
There was a shuffling sound in the darkness as the man searched out a fat, ageing dictionary. "Insidious...."
Her eyes turned a chocolate brown, a sign of frustration. She turned to the man.
Insidious- Working or spreading harmfully in a subtle way she said.
