Title: The Passion
Seth - February 22, 2004 04:06 PM (GMT)
Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ opens Feburary 25. I highly, highly encourage everyone to go see it. Even if you don't subscribe to the beliefs of Christianity, the events the film portrays are undeniably historical. I plan on seeing it multiple times, if I have time.
Side note: This'll be the first R movie I've ever seen, weird. It felt weird having to have someone else buy tickets for me...

Yeah, our Campus Crusade group here is buying tickets for members - while I still get the group's emails, though, I haven't been to a meeting in a semester, so I prolly won't get my tickets from them. I'm gonna have to find some people who want to go, though.

I agree w/ Seth and have tickets myself for Saturday. I would recommend, however, that you not go looking for any trailers of the film. That way you're completely unprepared.

I just got back from seeing the movie. I am still in a state of shock and it hasn't all hit me. but... :( -sigh- This is one of those movies that you don't come out of saying "I really liked that movie" its more "i really respected that movie"

Exactly. People ask "what did you think of it?" and I'm thinking "what a simple question for such a complex answer...

Sigh, I wish I could have seen it with you, Dani. I imagine it raised some questions.
It's a hard movie, no doubt about it :(

at this point the really big question i have is why did everyone have to be so mean to Jesus? I don't understand how they could let a murderer that they hated go free just so that Jesus wouldn't. I mean, i guess i understand that this is the way things had to work out. but it was... brutal.

That's sort of the ultimate point. Jesus, the least deserving of any sort of poor treatment, was treated the worst of anyone. For us.
Historically speaking, the Pharisees viewed Jesus as the ultimate threat to their power; if people could go to God through Jesus, rather than needing the Pharisees' help, they would lose their position of power and authority. They were willing to stop him at all costs.

Phew, I went and saw it again just because I really wanted to go with Emily. I found myself, though, not WANTING to see the whole thing again, and even kinda dreading it :s
*Seth wonders if this will hurt repeat ticket sales... maybe...

I doubt it Seth, considering I plan on seeing it again myself. For those who haven't or are planning on seeing it again heads up: pay attention to the reaction of the disciples during the last supper when Jesus reaches for the cup of wine.
