Title: The Nomination Process
Description: A question for former MSA attendees

The nomination form requires either 1) an IQ test score (WISC-III) or 2) an ACT test score a PSAT test score :P, I believe. Grade point average is a factor.
You will write two essays, and your teacher will write one. My ACT score was 35, and IQ test score was 146. Your counselor should have a packet with all the details. Good luck!

Oh, you're no fun - you're supposed to make people guess what your IQ score was, not tell 'em outright...
:winkiss:

You can't use the ACT for MSA Nomination, but you can use the PLAN and EXPLORE pre-ACTs. You can also use PSAT or the SCAT (there's two of them), then it's GPA, class rank, teacher recommendation, and essays.

They look at everything. Trust me, there were lots of kids that were NOT the top of their class, but they had other great skills. You'll be fine ^_^

Freshman in college? o_0
You missed it, kid. The Academy is a three-week program for rising juniors in high school. :P

Now wait a minute...there's no way 100 kids from your school can apply, is there? Does your school have an in-school application process prior to sending in their allotted number of apps to the actual MSA application process? I know each school district gets a certain number of applications they're allowed to submit in the MSA application process...unless it's just a certain number of spots allotted to that school's students in the Academy in general, regardless of how many students from that school apply...but yeah, that seems strange to me.
At my h.s., for instance, the students with the highest test PLAN and PSAT test scores are given the applications, take the IQ test, etc.—the entire district only gets 6 spots at the Academy, though, or something to that effect.

Hey, congratulations. Don't be nervous; you'll have a great time.

Incidentally, my brother also got accepted for this summer - I'm pretty psyched about that. His name's Robert Bauer, so if you '05ers are looking for someone cool to hang around with, that's your guy... ;)

They're definitely looking for interesting people, rather than those with a perfect GPA who do nothing that study.
And it is the best thing ever.
