Title: State Academic Bowl

BoBayles - May 10, 2003 11:43 PM (GMT)
The State Academic Bowl tournament was today...
My team, Montgomery County, ended up with second place! Which, compared to last year, is a great accomplishment... we got our butts kicked last year. We were in the record book for the worst beating (delivered by Savannah), but we held our own this time. Our second game was very tense... we were tied at 290 at the end of the 8th question of the last round. Then we answered the 9th for 10 points, and got all 4 bonuses for another 20. Then the 10th question... the other team got. Then they answered two bonuses... and missed their third. There was a huge sigh of relief. We lost (barely) to Lexington, who was headed by a very good '01 Scholar. In the afternoon we beat Westminster , and in the final we lost to Savannah, but not by 400 this time. Savannah has an interesting strategy; they buzz in as soon as some info is given in the question, and take a guess on what was being asked. They get a bunch wrong, but they get even more right.
In other news, our good Forum Dictator, Seth Kinast, got 1st place in the 1A division, undefeatedly. (6)

Congrat to you, your team, Seth, and all the other scholars there. And maybe the other non-MSAers there as well :D

That was her?! Damn, she was the one who dominated us...

:D I didn't do as well as last year though, surprisingly ;). Only 10 tossups in the championship game instead of 11 as a sophomore hehe. I saw Bo though, that was better than playing nerd bowl.

aww how sweet ;) . seth where would you be without friends? LOL, Kim Kerr strikes again!!!!! She could probably dominate a super-psycho genius man. aubrey i'm dying to hear a joke about bo being dominated by a female. funny stuff.

BoBayles - May 14, 2003 03:08 AM (GMT)
... :o
I still feel weird for not recognizing her. I watched the Scholar Bowl finals at MSA, even. I kept thinking she looked familiar, but I figured it was just from other academic bowl stuff.
Oh, I also saw one of the teachers from MSA at the State competition. Kyten, I think his name was? He tought something literature or theater-ish. He recognized me, and it turns out he knows my uncle. He asked me "...Do you have an uncle named Mark?" during the game.

Aubrey_Smith2002 - May 14, 2003 03:30 AM (GMT)
Bo...i'm sorry, but no one here wants to hear about your Uncle Mark. at least, i sure don't. ;)

and as for a joke about Bo and dominating women, i'll just say that he actually told me, "I'm not sure what 'touching' is like."

interesting...

Aubrey_Smith2002 - May 19, 2003 03:10 AM (GMT)
wow...and he doesn't even attempt to defend himself. :geek:

BoBayles - May 19, 2003 03:14 AM (GMT)
Out of context! I swear! I was talking about, y'know, how people say books or songs or movies and stuff are emotionally "touching"? Really.
And on a somewhat related note... anybody want to be hired as a bodyguard during the Summer Reunion?

Aubrey_Smith2002 - May 19, 2003 03:17 AM (GMT)
haha...a bodyguard won't help. :ph43r:
