If you have not yet seen Phone Booth, go see it. If you have, tell me what you thought of it.
I saw it yesterday afternoon with another scholar. Funny thing is that afterwards we had different ideas about who the "bad guy" was and whether or not he won. I thought that Stu was the bad guy. He's a liar, cheat, jerk and all-around uncool dude. My scholar friend, I won't name her unless she feels like being known, thought that the sniper was the bad guy. Afterall, who would go around shooting defenseless people?
The sniper, IMO, was metaphorically God. He punishes bad people with death after giving them a chance to reform. He tried to teach Stu a lesson. He taught him the pain that lies cause by lying to him. He taught him the hurt that disrespect creates by disrespecting him. I don't see how one can say that God is good but the sniper was bad.
I'm clueless about one thing, though. Surely the satellite at the beginning and end have a symbolic meaning. But what is it?

I wanted to ask if it's scary or if it's just weird or what. And did anyone see Ray Ramano's rendition of it on SNL? THAT was interesting.
No, it's not scary although it is suspenseful. I'd call it a psychological thriller.
