Title: What is your river?
Description: Assignment from Huck Finn

Earlier this week my american lit. teacher (a :ph43r: )gave us this assignment: Figure out what your river :arr: is in relation to the river in Huck Finn, then defend your choice (6) .
So before we could even write we had to come up with things describing a river and what its functions would be etc <_< ....it is used in Huck finn as the tie between episodes and as Hucks escape from society, it is absolute freedom. However it also has its drawbacks.
I discoverd in my own search that the thing closest to a river for me has been the theatre.
I was just wondering what you would consider your personal river? if you need clarification :ermm: on the idea feel free to email me.....myrth12@hotmail.com
Just be sure you mention msa or huck finn in the title....my junk filter is really high

Heh. Well... let's see. In Huck Finn, the river symbolizes Huck's escape from his old life and his journey through new lives and new identities. By this definition, there's only one thing that could possibly be a river, and that's <cheesyanswer>MSA itself. No stigmas about how people see you; you're free to cast off your old life and start fresh.</cheesyanswer>
Don't like it? Come up with your own :P

I'd say mine are piano and writing, its what i can do by myself regardless of what mood i'm in. plus people tend to tread more carefully around me when i'm at either of those. its fun. which reminds me that i have a contest coming up and ought to practice.... i am understanding how rivers have drawbacks...

Amen Seth, Amen. I think I got about half way through Huck Finn before we took the test on it (it's not my fault I was in the middle of the LOTR trilogy when my teacher assigned it :) ). I didn't think the book was very good though.

OKay Seth Cute answer, and Ryan, but really what is it that has brought you to where you are right now....msa was wonderful and the absolute freedom but it was only three weeks and it lacked a great many qualities of a river...althgouh it has potential....
btw Ryan....the musical version of Huck Finn is quite intertaning if you like theatre and musicals...."Big River" fun show..lol ohwell gotta go finish typing up my river paper....

What brought me to where I am right now? Nothing, I started here. I think one of the biggest problems in my life is that I have no escape. I'm stuck in an endless cycle, and I'm just hoping that college will be the river I'm looking for.
I always thought musicals were ridiculous. You never see people walking down the street just suddenly burst out in song. They'll throw you in the looney bin for things like that :D .

Heh, I wish college were my river. I suppose my river is writing, although it's not as much fun when there are deadlines and whatnot. That and perhaps reading, although I feel sad these days - I realized that I've only read 3 books this year, as compared to 120+ in the past 3 years before this one. I need to get back into that, it's something I've enjoyed for a long time, and I have dozens of books awaiting me at home.
I'll have to think more on this, though, as to what my river truly is these days. It used to be MSA, surely, which I don't think is a trite answer so long as one has thought about it. These days, however, I think I need a new river.
Heh, and I like musicals where they burst into song for no real reason. People should sing more, and not be afraid (like I am, I suppose, altogether too often around here - my roommate's a singer, and there are so many people on this floor who do music, hence I don't think people think of me as a music person, whereas in h.s. I was definitely a music person) to sing for fear that people will think it's looney or silly.
Eh, a balance must be struck, however, between passionate spontaneity and planning for the future, I suppose.
Perhaps I've been on land too long.
