Title: Nicolas Flamel and The Devinci Code

I was just being nerdy and was watching a documentary on National Geographic on the DaVinci Code, and the said Leonardo DaVinci belonged to a dangerous, underground secret society of radical thinkers (saying stuff like Mary Magdalin and Jesus were maried, etc...) and the showed a list of members of the radical group and who was on the list? None other than Nicolas Flamel

wierd huh? she must have got the idea for him from somewhere...

Ya, I heard something about that at the History Channel (that's what I watch in cases of extreme boredom) I remember thinking it odd at the time, but haven't thought about it much since

Yeah, I heard that too, I think if you go to darkmark.com under name meanings, they give the whole stpry on him.

apparently, he was a famous frech alchemist. You can read about him and how JKR realtes to him at

Nicolas Flamel

i don't think they have anything on Nicolas Flamel at darkmark anymore, although the used too.

Okay, im stupid, whats an alchemist?

hpdork - July 24, 2004 01:41 AM (GMT)
it's basically ancient/early science and chemistry and what not that was a bit nieve still in it's thinking (atleast that's what I understand from the website I visited), like they tried to find ways to turn lead into gold, and a bunch of other stuff (thus, the Philosipher's Stone) They say apparently, Nicolas Flamel was givin this book thing by an angel or something that tought him how to make it, and make him emortal and whatever, and he still lives in his cottage somewhere in France.

Awesome, thanks for the link. Yeah, last year I had to do a paper for Chemistry and I was thinking about doing it on him, but then I didn't...it would have been interesting though. I didn't know he was in that group w/ DaVinci though..interesting.

Oh, okay, I am just stupid like that...

hpdork - August 9, 2004 07:37 PM (GMT)
Okay, I just got done reading the DaVenci code, turned out they didn't even live in the same century, but they where both leaders of this secret society called the Priory of Sion that had something to do with worshipping the *sacred feminine* and Mary Magdalin as the Holy Grail and what not

Well if the stories that Nicholas Flamel really did make the Elixer of Life, and he is immortal are true, then he and DaVinci could've lived in the same century.

I think I'll borrow The DaVinci Code from my sister and read it this year.

Erised - August 11, 2004 03:13 PM (GMT)
I want to read it, but between my website and my obsessive posting habits, I dont think that I will be able to find the time, lol.

- FwOoPeR - - August 12, 2004 01:50 AM (GMT)
Lol...Yeah keeping up with my website, doing all the homework I'm going to have this year, and posting on all the forums I'm signed up at will make it hard to read it...Maybe I'll read it next summer. I really hope I find a way to read it sooner than that though.

I read the Davinci Code this summer, it was really good. Yep, when I was reading it, my jaw dropped: On the list of Priory head members, right there none other than Nicholas Flamel was listed! It makes sense that an alchemest would be in this group...it was full of the most eccentric people throughout history. I bet there are a ton more hidden things like this all over the Potter Books.
