actually I think thats the data noise from a camera misfire .. as the fishtale is not enclosed in the image but is part of it.
Some nice pictures from SOHO there Andrew. I think you are right there though. I looked at some oher images and there is very dark streak in pretty much all of them. I wonder what causes it?

You may be right i was looking at one that showed a object move across from left to right anyone see that.

there have been tons of Big ships photographed by the soho camera over the years -
most of them used to be up at www.cyberspaceorbit.com but maybe kent just has a few up these days ...
he used to call them sun torpedoes - big ships flying in formation in and out of the sun ... also called sun cruisers -
there are also plenty of big glowing line structures like the ships were modular rectangular blocks being fitted together ...
nothing skeptical can be said about that stuff other than nasa invented the ufo images - which would make a change of tack from the usual skeptical universe where the establishment always give us the true picture
