After recently seeing internet movie trailers for this sci fi, I got quite excited at the prospect of seeing this movie when it's out on DVD.

The story itself is not unique, it involves humans raiding an innocent planet (Pandora) for it's rich minerals. The indigenous inhabitants are humanoid and look like half cat half human - hence there's a lot of cgi. They live in harmoney with their environment and live in a world similar to what's left of our Amazon rainforrest.

What inspired me about this film was not the plot but the realisation that if there is Extraterrestrial life in the galaxys or universe - this is how ET could look (humanoid) with similar planetary conditions to our Earth and Sun. ET would most likely be slightly less or more technologically advanced or on parallel with us.

However the distances are too great to travel in a spaceship unless you had a machine like the one in Carl Sagan's Contact - the device was not so much a spaceship - rather, a wormhole opening portal device.
