OK, try this one on for size. This is one of the old cases that I have kicking around in my files. I like the sound of that... "my files"!

1991

Two witnesses were at an ancient Roman site just outside of Brechin, attempting to see the Northern Lights. What they saw instead two lozenge-shaped lights which they at first presumed were helicopters. These were at the same height as the witnesses. In appearance, they were “red at one end and a palish blue at the other”, the blue colour described as almost neon-like. Both objects then moved off in different directions at “an incredible speed”, one at a low angle and the other in “a high arc”. The first object disappeared, however the second one then returned directly towards the witnesses and passed overhead. This afforded a much better look at the object which was cigar-shaped. The witness who submitted this report had contacted Mills Observatory the following day, to no avail, other than to say that nothing was visible that evening other than stars seen through a cloudy sky.

This makes me wonder if the Observatory keeps a record of calls made to them. Might be quite enlightening to find out.
