Skywatchers eagerly awaiting Saturday's total lunar eclipse say that the spectacle could be the "best in years".

The eclipse begins at 2018 GMT, with the Moon totally immersed in the shadow of the Earth between 2244 and 2358 GMT.

During "totality", only light that has been filtered through the Earth's atmosphere reaches the Moon's surface, making it appear a reddish colour.

Unfortunately it is pretty cloudy here and scheduled to be so for the rest of the day. Will still keep an eye out just in case though!

Hi,
It did turn out to be clear here after all so we got a brilliant view. :D It didn't begin till about 9.30 though.

I took these through my Celestron 102mm refractor telescope. Just held a digital camera up to the eyepiece.
I took loads of pics but only these two were any good. It was a great sight eh? And when the moon clouded over I just swung the 'scope round to look at Saturn for a wee while. :)

HIYA FOLKS, HEY GOOD PHOTOGRAPH STORMWATCH... I WAS GOING IN AND OUT THE GARDEN ALL NIGHT WATCHING IT BUT ALTHOUGH I HAD A GOOD VIEW THE LIGHT POLLUTION HERE STOPPED ME FROM SEEING THE COLOURS YOU GOT. WELL DONE AND THANKS FOR THE PICS.
CHEERS
UFOHARRY

Nice photos stormwatch, loads of detail in them like Harry I went out periodically but couldn't get any decent photos due to the light pollution.

Thanks lads - to be honest, I didn't really see those colours either, except through the telescope. And even at that, more detail came out in the photos than I could actually see myself.

I'm getting a new camera specifically for astrophotography, so hopefully I can get much more detailed shots soon. Maybe even a UFO or two! :)
