Title: How To...

These juicy questions don't seem to "fit" anywhere else, so here's a new topic, dedicated to my need for help:
How do you change the GameCube display back to 60Hz, after experimenting with the 50Hz display?
I only changed it to see if it did anything special, but it didn't, and now I think I've broken it forever.
This one's a bit embarrassing:
How do you make [the admittedly dull] Alpha Centauri work on Windows XP?
I just dug it out (literally), after years of neglect, but the world has changed since I last "terraformed" a "thermal borehole", and so has my operating system.
Now, everytime I try to install it, my computer goes all weird, and starts to make violent hissing noises when I attempt to approach it. Also, the word "SKANK" flashes on and off my screen in big, red letters.
Finally:
How do I "be" Goro?
Tsk.

I think you hold down 'B' once the GameCube logo has finished quaintly tootling around the screen, while the game is loading. When it asks whether you want to display in 60hz mode, tell it you don't.
EDIT: Also, I think it just stays in whatever mode you were in last, so if you put in a 50hz game it might reset it.
EDIT 2: Having re-read your original question, please note that what I've said should still apply, only in reverse. So you still need to hold down 'B'.

Re: Alpha Centauri, this should work:
http://www.firaxis.com/downloads_detail.cfm?file_id=60Oh and Alpha Centauri is a fantastic game - I love it.
I just wish Civ III stole more ideas from it - especially the political system.

Why on Earth do you want to go back to 50hz, guy?
60 is better in just about every way.

I myself can't tell the difference, but I'm usually drunk so what do I know?
I just didn't like the idea of making T'GameCube all permanently "wronged-up", and stuff.

60hz makes the display put less strain on your eyes and mind (and therefore is less headache-inducing), and makes some games faster - I'll admit the difference is often negligible, but there are some striking exceptions to this, since most games were originally made to work in 60hz.
Anyway, I'll shut up now.
