Nintendo are said to have released information on the official successor to the GameCube, expected to arrive in 2005 some time before the PS3.
In a surprising move the company have decided to base the new console on current GameCube technology. In an interview a Nintendo spokesperson outlined the premise behind the new machine: "It is Nintendo's policy to produce only games that are fun to play. We are not interested in the videogames 'market', rather in producing the best games that we can. At 128 bit, we feel that the current GameCube technology is as far advanced as we ever need to make it. After listening to feedback from consumers and developers, the only fundamental alteration we feel we need to make is to increase storage capacity."
Another reason to stick with current technology is that developers are now very comfortable with it, the spokesperson said. "Why learn a whole new system every time some new hardware is developed? This is what our in-house teams had been saying to us. With new hardware, the demand for better graphics is part of the package. The time spent on making detailed graphics and more realistic gaming environments could be better invested in making better GAMES, in our opinion."
Miyamoto-san is said to have been heavily involved in the decision to freeze Nintendo's technological development. "Super Mario Bros 3 was developed on 8-bit hardware, and that made us MILLIONS" the wacky genius beamed, before revealing that the flagship title for the GC2 will be a multiplayer version of Pac Man that utilises GBA link-up technology. But Miyamoto! Haven't you already made that? What a funny man!

Oh yeah baby. This news means were likely to get "Super Mario World 6 : Sunshine" excellent news. Or is it? Hmm.
All I want is another 2d Excitebike and, I dunno say "Be Goro" game, also in 2D.
