Title: The Digi Forum Challenge

Possibly God - October 3, 2003 04:52 PM (GMT)
I'm thinking maybe we should have some sort of high score challenge for those of us that are left here.

Not unlike the Llamasoft forum you pick one game, everyone gets to play it for a set amount of time then you post your highest score or best lap time or whatever.

Whoevers is best wins absolutly nothing, but it could be fun.

Mame would probably be best for this as the games are easily downloadable for everyone. Or if there's a game that everyones got, we can use that.

Any ideas/ feedback on this?

Yes, it might be good. Or a Wario Ware game, or something.

I don't actually have MAME. I don't know why, really. I will get it... NOW.

Maybe an email Advance Wars 2 thing? Doesn't really look like many people are interested.

I've got AW 2, Made In Wario and Mario Kart, so any of those would be fine by me.

i've only been playing medium unit so far, not revision though. maybe i shall try revision, i keep hearing that its better, but i figure if i play medium unit to death first, THEN play the better version, it'll last longer :)

I'm assuming the scores are generally lower on MU because of the different buzz system? Although me being crap might come into it somewhere too :D

Hmm we could have some sort of aw2 league going on. It's easily available (through some wholly dodgy sources) and if it will run on my steam powered pc then I'm sure it will on most others.

Will just retire to my drawing board to think more about this.

Post in this thread if your interested and I'll figure out the logistics of the whole thing. Maybe.

I have actually never played medium unit, but I believe you can only buzz each bullet once in medium unit, whereas you can buzz each bullet as many times as you want in revision.

Therefore I presume higher scores are possible in revision.

Apart from this, I am unsure of the differences, but I believe there are many other subtle differences.

I doubt it is really worth bothering with medium unit to be honest - there is many many hours of gameplay in revision, and I expect once you are bored with medium unit you will be bored with revision too since the changes are so subtle.

Anyhow, there are some videos in the thread I posted, so check them out for some tips :).

what i've heard from people who have played both is that as you can only buzz the bullets once in medium unit, you tend to need to go forward to buzz the bullets more, rather than sitting back and buzzing the same ones over and over, so it ends up being a worthwhile enough difference to justify playing both to death.

i might give revision a go soon though, because everywhere i look all the scores are for revision not medium unit, and i feel left out :)

i'll definately be having a look at the vids when i get internet at home (hopefully the weekend if ntl are to be believed...), dunno if work would appreciate me sitting and watching shmup videos all day (not that i've got anything better to do really...) and for that matter, dunno if this computer could handle a video without blowing up :)

They are crying out for some medium unit players on a scoreboard here:

i know, i post there occasionally, just im not good enough atm :)
hopefully will get a bit of time to play over the weekend, but i need to fix my car and phone amongst other things so who knows.
started playing revision now, and yeah the scores are just a lot higher on it :)

its really impressive though how two games both so different and both so good get released together for £15. and its silly to think how many people won't buy it :(
