Title: Muggle Born Wizards

I was curious about this question I've had for ages now!. Harry was taken to buy all his supplies for Hogwarts by Hagrid. Now, what about muggle borns like Hermione and Colin Creevey?? even if they found out the Leaky Cauldron, what about the fact that you have to have a wand to open the wall to Diagon Alley?

I've always felt that muggleborns would have to have a magical escort, as a wand is needed to enter Diagon Alley. I also thought that the introduction letter would have a lot more information than Harry's and would be followed by a visit, or some form of meeting that may occur at the Leaky Cauldron or in Diagon Alley. These families would need some kind of explanation before sending their children off... someone needs to ask Hermione. :P
I thought one of the arguments against having Muggleborns at Hogwarts was that their non-magical families are not obligated to follow Wizarding law and therefore, are exempt from the Secrecy Act. Of course, the families are asked to maintain secrecy and are probably given a cover story. There is also the fact that if they did tell, people would think they are a loon. But that is a risk some Witches and Wizards do not like taking.

As Liam said, magical escorts are required. As you may remember, Hermione's parents always come with her to Diagon Alley, like most parents do.
When children like Hermione and Colin start showing signs of magical powers, the Ministry of Magic probably informs the parents, then causing them to sign a Secrecy Act.

Thanks Liam, Jeremy. I wonder are there are some kind of rules that muggles, who are aware of wizards+witches, must follow?. If I remember rightly there was a mention of the Muggle primeminister when Black escaped and also Black was on Muggle news. Therefore there might be an organisation/group of people on the Muggle side who also help to keep wizards a secret? But I definitely agree with you Liam about the idea of a more detailed introduction letter and some form of a meeting with the family. That would definitely be needed.

There is a wizarding Secrecy Act that they must abide by.
Hmm, a secret Muggle club that knows about wizards...wicked idea, Helen!

No, Muggles don't have to follow Wizarding law. Remember, when Fudge told the Muggle PM, someone said that the PM couldn't very well tell people about the magical world because people would think he's nuts. There does seem to be some communication between the two goverments, but it seems to be only through respectful dialog--there's probably a treaty somewhere.
POA, p.38 UK--"I have the Prime Minister's assurance that he will not breathe a word of Black's true identity to anyone. And let's face it--who'd believe him if he did?"

There has to be some. There's no way every witch or wizard kept the secret from everyone. Some Muggles had to witness magic without having their memories modified.

This question has been going round my head for quite some time now. I totally agree with the idea of a wizard/witch coming to your house and/or escorting you to diagon alley. Muggleborns would definately have to receive a more detailed letter from Hogwarts. I can just see the look on my parents face if I'd received a letter when I was 11. Not just the letter but the owl as well
I was also thinking about money, what do muggleborns do for that?, is there a Bureau de change at Gringotts where they can change their pounds. And how do they know how to get onto platform 9 and 3/4?
As a new student these are things that would worry me (but then I do tend to worry a bit too much sometimes) and Hogwarts cant exactly have an open day to show you around and help you decide whether this is the school for you, what if you decide you made the wrong choice (not that that would happen, how could you possibly not want to attend Hogwarts?) Oh my anyone would think I'd just received my letter and I was panicking Ok Stacey breath its ok!! :eyeroll:
