Title: Red Bull
Description: Have you ever had it?

wayc - July 22, 2004 12:48 PM (GMT)
Has anyone bought into those constant Red Bull "gives you wings" commercials and tried one? Until today I was free of succumbing to their propaganda, but decided to buy one at my SCUBA class yesterday to keep me awake.

Instead of making me sprout wings it really boosted my active and alertness level ten-fold. I knew that's what it was supposed to do, but it surprised me at how well it worked. I was about ready to stab myself several times to put me out of my misery before my lesson, but went into it with a nice mix of Red Bull and adrenaline that let me perform at my best on 0 sleep.

Also, it tastes IDENTICAL to a liquified version of Sweet Tarts - the candy.

Not to say that I've actually liquified a Sweet Tart before...deliberately...

Koolgool - July 22, 2004 01:55 PM (GMT)
I've neva had it, but the comercials r funny. :D

chexfan2000 - July 22, 2004 04:08 PM (GMT)

Loremaster - July 23, 2004 01:33 AM (GMT)
I've had it. Be careful. Too much will ruin your heart, because of the herbs and stuff it contains.

ChexBoss32890 - July 23, 2004 01:51 AM (GMT)
Look for aferdin dude, I've acaully seen what that stuff can do. -_- And I hope it will never happen to you at any extent.

Loremaster - July 23, 2004 01:55 AM (GMT)
That's why I don't drink it anymore. I stopped as soon as I found out.

wayc - July 23, 2004 02:06 AM (GMT)

There are a lot of urban myths surrounding most energy drinks, Jolt Soda, and Moutain Dew. Criticisms of these beverage have to do with the amount of caffeine and sugar.

There are also claims that Red Bull contains a dangerous stimulant linked to the formation of brain tumors. Its just a baseless scare associated with a popular product though. The "killer" ingredient is Glucuronolactone, a naturally-occurring metabolite, a carbohydrate produced by the human metabolic system. The glucuronolactone rumor is not the only one circulated about Red Bull. Other state that it's been proved to be extremely addictive, or that its drinkers will test positive in a drugs test , or that its on the verge of being banned in Europe. Without exception, all of these rumors are untrue.

I know that there are some restrictions at certion stores in the US because of the highly stimulant nature of the drink. It does contain taurine, which acts as a metabolic transmitter and strengthens cardiac contractility (mucks with your heart in large doses) The problem arises when consumed durring strenuous exercise or when it is mixed with alcohol.

Also, one can actually have a toxic overdose on caffiene. Symptoms include an irregular or rapid heartbeat, confusion, and muscle twitching. This could be to blame when it comes to Red Bull = heart problems.

Basically, straight Red Bull, consumed in small amounts while sitting around the house on the computer is pretty safe. It just tastes like utter crap.

wayc - July 23, 2004 05:39 AM (GMT)
I loved the taste, but I don't plan on having it very often. I've had it once in seventeen years. That's pretty impressive.

NTG56 - July 23, 2004 06:01 AM (GMT)
RED BULL WILL KILL ANYONE WHO DRINKS IT WITHIN 24 HRS!!!!

j/k :D

Never drunk it before, probly never will.

brain candy - July 23, 2004 06:07 AM (GMT)
It tastes like chemical sludge and smells like puke:

Dear Red Bull

Upon seeing your comical television advertisments, I felt I should try some of this drink you know as red bull. However, unlike the television advertisments I haven't grown a set of wings, why is this?

Dear [Name edited out]

Thank you for your recent e-mail.

It is true that Red Bull does give you 'wiings' (as opposed to wings) but not in an obvious conventional manner but by vitalising your body and mind, as seen from our humorous self-ironic cartoons.

I dare say that in the history of evolution there has never been a case of a human being been naturally blessed with real wings in the sense that you mean and Red Bull would not try to fool the general population at large into thinking that it was possible to drink our product and change their genetic make up to grow extra parts of the body!

I assure you that the style of the advertisements and message that they give have been passed by the Advertising Standards Authority and are deemed suitable for broadcasting to the viewing public. I am sorry that you felt the message conveyed in our commercials misled you in anyway into believing that Red Bull would persuade your body to sprout bird-like feathery appendages.

Please accept out sincerest apologies if any confusion has been suffered.

Yours sincerely

Red Bull Marketing

Wayc does not have to worry. Here are the Red Bull ingredients:

carbonated water, sucrose, glucose, sodium citrate, taurine, glucuronolactone, caffeine, inositol, niacin, D-pantothenol, pyridoxine HCL, vitamin B12, artificial flavours, colors

I think you mean ephedra. There are many concerns and side effects associated with ephedra as this product is an adrenaline-like stimulant that has dangerous effects on both the heart and nervous system. It is also a banned substance and Red Bull does NOT contain it.

chexfan2000 - July 23, 2004 07:53 PM (GMT)
Wow, dream analyst, rumor de-bunker, is there anything you DON'T do, bc?

Koolgool - July 23, 2004 09:37 PM (GMT)
Lol, chexfan delete 1 of those posts. :D

Loremaster - July 24, 2004 02:04 AM (GMT)
I got it......

But wow. You're not only the first female member, you're also the most widely talented. This board certainly is an odd bunch.

But yea, Ephedra used to be in Red Bull waaaaaay back. Prolly not anymore though. BC [can I shorten it?] is right.

brain candy - July 24, 2004 04:07 AM (GMT)
Yep, you all can shorten it to BC.

Thanks for the compliments. ^_^ I don't think its that I'm talented or anything though, just randomly knowledgeable. I appreciate the support though. This board seriously has a diverse, talented and nice bunch of people! I'm glad to be a part of it.

I could see why Red Bull would want to put ephedra in their product but I'm glad to see that they no longer use it.

And it still tastes like chemical sludge!

NTG56 - July 24, 2004 04:22 AM (GMT)
dont be so modest BC, i dont know anybody else who can analize dreams!

I think i would fit right in here! I'm about as "diverse" as you can get; im a liberel budahist homeschooler computer geek (NTG56 = NickTheGeek56) that likes Linux but uses Windows because d*** M$ controls the world.

But most importantly, i'm a team player. lmao   oh yeah i like Office Space!

BTW: BC, was that letter that you got from redbull real?

ok thats it, whats the deal with cussin here?! lets draw the line 'k?! just put the first letter and *'s after that!

wayc - July 24, 2004 04:25 AM (GMT)
I've already added every cuss word to the filter. You must be seeing things.

Chexboss manages to say "crap"

wayc - July 24, 2004 04:50 AM (GMT)
And you're complaining about him saying that word after the filter caught the d word in your post? :P

I don't think crap is profane enough to add to the filter. It can be used in other contexts too.

Anyway, back on topic, uhhhh, I may have another Red Bull tomorrow.

NTG56 - July 24, 2004 04:56 AM (GMT)
NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just remember: sale of Red Bull is prohibited in Denmark, France and Canada. Isnt that a little creepy?

Koolgool - July 25, 2004 11:09 PM (GMT)
I'm scared to try it. I used to think it was alchoholic.

A_Jax91 - July 25, 2004 11:38 PM (GMT)
i thought it was too, but i dont think it is

Loremaster - July 25, 2004 11:55 PM (GMT)
It isn't. It does boost reflexes...

But then again, those of use who play Starcraft remember the price of ordering a Marine to use a Stimpack, right? -10 Health Points....

wayc - July 26, 2004 12:51 AM (GMT)
I had another one today. I had no idea it looked like pee. Still tastes like sweet tarts though. XD

Koolgool - July 26, 2004 01:11 AM (GMT)
Why don't ya put sweet tarts in a blender and blend in with water and drink that? XD (1st time ever using "XD")

chexfan2000 - July 26, 2004 01:37 AM (GMT)
It wouldn't dissolve correctly

Koolgool - July 26, 2004 01:45 AM (GMT)
If u pound it and grind it. it WILL desove... I think.

chexfan2000 - July 26, 2004 01:47 AM (GMT)
I doubt it. Red Bull is carbonated as well, so it's better anyway! :P

NTG56 - July 26, 2004 02:11 AM (GMT)
ok if it wont dissolve dump some Draino Max in there! XD (also 1st time using XD)
So then you could also dump some ginger ale in ther for carbination!

Sweet tarts + draino + ginger ale = Red Bull???

(We now have XD smily dude: user posted image)
