Title: The Cinema (E2M2)
Description: Who cares?

Boingo the Clown - June 22, 2004 01:14 AM (GMT)
It is time to face the fact of the matter. The cinema level (E2M2 of TUCQ) is the worst of all the original Chex Quest (2) levels in terms of layout and design, game play, and overall appearance. I've been ignoring the level up until now, but something really has to be done about it.

There is a problem however.

As part of my initial set of goals, I said that I would not change the overall layout of any of the original levels, and keep the gameplay pretty much the same. Unfortunately, a lot of what I may have to do on this level would run counter to this important and noble goal.

The cinema level is the only one of the original levels that stirs this issue.

So I've decided to put it to a vote. You are allowed two choices out of the list, in case you are of more than one opinion. In a couple of weeks (July 5, 2004), I will consider the poll to be closed, and consider the results along with my own opinion (Yes, my vote does carry a heavier amount of weight than the others. ) in order to decide exactly what I am going to do with this rather troublesome level.

Take a look at the choices, and consider them well. It is a rather important issue, and I can really use your help on this one.

Loremaster - June 22, 2004 01:41 AM (GMT)
If you scrap it and make another with the same theme, keep the moving wall textures. I loved those.

A_Jax91 - June 22, 2004 01:42 AM (GMT)
I do agree that it is kind of simple and Bland but i dont want it to lose the theme so i think maybe you should make a new one with the same kind things such as the theatres but also try to spice it up a bit.

wayc - June 22, 2004 02:20 AM (GMT)
I voted both "keep it the same with added details" and that "I like icecream." You made it a poll where you could vote for more than one thing.

CyberG - June 22, 2004 02:40 AM (GMT)
Since Boingo is using DOOM Legacy as the engine for TUCQ, he could add the file in as a reject, where it could be accessed as a non episode map, for example it could be called e5m1 or something like that so he could add in the replacement, and the original map could still be in trhere for anyone who wants to see it.

Flemoid_Slayer - June 22, 2004 03:15 AM (GMT)
been so long i forgot what the cinema level was like...

Flembrane - June 22, 2004 05:27 AM (GMT)
I vote scrapped completely, it is a cool idea for a level

chexfan2000 - June 22, 2004 01:30 PM (GMT)
I think it should be heavily modifed... very heavily...

And I like ice cream! :wow:

A_Jax91 - June 22, 2004 02:29 PM (GMT)
I think it should be scrapped completly but with the same theme because it was a pretty cool idea to have a theatre but they obviously didnt try that hard, so i think with the stuff already in Phase 2 Beta1 it can definitly be fixed up a bit.

Richie - June 23, 2004 12:23 PM (GMT)
^^

Same here. :D

A_Jax91 - June 23, 2004 01:46 PM (GMT)
and maybe a cool idea ive been thinkin about for the Cinema

A_Jax91 - June 23, 2004 01:47 PM (GMT)
i've been tryin to make a good ticketbooth for a while just messin around on wad author

Looney - June 24, 2004 02:17 AM (GMT)
Hi All :D New Member don't everyone slime me at once. :D HAHAHAHAHAHA I voted for a scrap and redo. I think you could do a better job that way Boingo. With all the work you have done up to this point, a bad level would be a waste. From what I have seen your doing an exalent job Boingo, and think you can redo it and still have the same feel as the origanal CQ2 version.

chexfan2000 - June 24, 2004 02:20 AM (GMT)
BWAHAHAHAHAH
*slimes Looney*
Hi, welcome to the forum.
It is a rather sad level, isn't it?

Looney - June 24, 2004 02:25 AM (GMT)
Ahhhhh Man *Wipes slime out of eyes and pulls a piece out ear......Ewwwww :D hahahahahahhaa Yeah is was bad level. I don't think to many people will miss it if it's done right and think Boingo is the mapper to do just that. (Gota stoke the Clown or he gets evil.) ;)

Boingo the Clown - June 24, 2004 02:29 AM (GMT)
Me? Evil?

Nah!

(Note to self: Looney knows too much. Must eliminate him. ) <_<

Looney - June 24, 2004 02:37 AM (GMT)
Uh oh, *Steals Boingo's unicycle and speeds off..... HAHAHHAHAHAHAHA Turns around to taunt the clown and hits an HTML hole and crashes.

wayc - June 24, 2004 03:11 AM (GMT)
The Cinema was my favorite level in 1996.

chexfan2000 - June 24, 2004 01:27 PM (GMT)
It was a movie theatre. movie theatres are cool! However, it was a bad level. Hmm... mebbe it could be extended somehow, add more to the end? Maybe use that red key?

Boingo the Clown - June 24, 2004 02:36 PM (GMT)
That red key card is actually one of my peaves about that level. It is really bad level design to have a key with no doors for it anywhere on the level.

Tilple - June 24, 2004 07:00 PM (GMT)
well, it looks like "I like ice cream is winning".
Best scrap the level and replace it with a roadside ice cream shop. :wow:

A_Jax91 - June 24, 2004 10:18 PM (GMT)
well thats a good suggestion, i myself have always been a fan of ice-cream, but i still think you should just totally rebuild a new theatre

however that ice-cream shop idea is tempting :(

Flemoid_Slayer - June 25, 2004 02:19 AM (GMT)
hadnt played the cinema in a looooooooooooong time, just tested it out...

i say it should be scrapped and made with the same overall theme, and if you can, the same basic layout, just more interesting

A_Jax91 - June 25, 2004 02:42 AM (GMT)
i dont even like its layout, plus its so easy to cheat, you can jump rite into the window and get the blue key before you ever even take the lift down to unlock it, but then again you can cheat too in the spaceprt with the wall you can walk strait through at the end of the street

Flemoid_Slayer - June 25, 2004 03:12 AM (GMT)
boingo eliminated the latter of you examples in tucq

you can jump through the window?

A_Jax91 - June 25, 2004 03:23 AM (GMT)
i do it all the time, you just have to get a run and start, i also use it as a shortcut so i dont have to go all the way around that sector i just keep runnin strait and jump through the window :P

Flemoid_Slayer - June 25, 2004 03:29 AM (GMT)
what!? you can jump in chex quest?

wayc - June 25, 2004 03:39 AM (GMT)
You can only jump in The Ultimate Chex Quest, unless he knows something I don't.

Boingo the Clown - June 25, 2004 04:25 AM (GMT)
DooM Legacy, like most of the DooM source ports, allows jumping.

A_Jax91 - June 25, 2004 03:21 PM (GMT)
i was talking about TUCQ, usually thats the only version of Chex Quest I play :D

Flemoid_Slayer - June 25, 2004 05:00 PM (GMT)
how?!

A_Jax91 - June 25, 2004 05:19 PM (GMT)
you just have to go to options in the game and turn it on if your asking how to jump, and it may be already on, you just have to hit shift :)

Boingo the Clown - June 25, 2004 05:25 PM (GMT)
You will find it in Legecy's game options.

Koolgool - June 25, 2004 11:48 PM (GMT)
I Love Ice cream!!! :wow:

Tilple - June 26, 2004 01:32 AM (GMT)
And your feet!
Strange combination...

Loremaster - June 26, 2004 01:38 AM (GMT)
Yea, who in their right mind likes to walk in ice cream?

ChexBoss32890 - June 26, 2004 04:04 AM (GMT)
KEEEEP IT!

I dont care WTF you do to that level, but it's a part of the game!

Flembrane - June 26, 2004 04:56 AM (GMT)
If he scrapped it and repelced with the same theme its still part of the game

wayc - June 26, 2004 05:12 AM (GMT)
Turn it into a drive in and put in an ice-cream parlor by the concession stand. :P

A_Jax91 - June 26, 2004 05:14 AM (GMT)
dont forget ticket booths, it seemed like a logical addition to it, but boingo says he doesnt like it <_<
